I had the same problem and I ordered a refrigerator online which was costing me $839 . I was just watching trouble shooting videos on refrigerator cooling problems. And then I watched this video and I followed the steps and my fridge is back to Arctic again. I canceled the order and saved 839 bucks. All thanks to this gentleman who made it so easy for me. God bless him. Cheers.

I'm sooo very grateful for your video!!! After my fridge stopped cooling I thought I was going to have to buy another. This year has been a VERY EXPENSIVE YEAR and I was dredding having to use credit card to pay for it. So I decided to ask Google and WAALAA (you told me what to do). As a 61 y/o single woman you explained the process in such easy terms that I had the confidence to try. This morning my fridge was cold . Next I'm gonna try to stop my toilet from running and replace a light switch. Thank you again for helping me fix my fridge.

I also want to express my appreciation. My older model Admiral Frostless fridge stopped working. The freezer was fine but the fridge was barely below room temperature. I discovered the problem one day, but I think it had gradually come about. It was a second fridge and not in constant use. The fix was super easy. I just unplugged the fridge, got my hair dryer from my makeup table and blasted the back of the freezer section. When the ice that accumulated on the back wall melted I removed the cover of the fan, (the fan works fine), and the attached vent cover that goes down from the fan cover at the back of the freezer. A large chunk of ice, the rectangle shape of the vent, fell out. The vent is open on one side when it is removed so the ice came out easily. The whole job required only a roberts square head screwdriver and very little muscle power. It was only a simple DIY because the clear video and the helpful comments of others on this page helped me to diagnose the problem. I was unable to take off the whole back cover of the freezer because the screw holding the fan in place was very tight and I did not want to strip the screw. As I was unable to see the cooling coils to see if they were packed with ice, my diagnosis of the problem and my fix was to only to remove the ice out of the vent.

A thousand thumbs-up - this video fixed a months-long problem where my freezer was reaching -20F and the fridge was at 51F dripping water from the freezer. I took everything out of the freezer and removed the back bottom fridge panel, and there I saw ice clogging everything, including the drain line. I took out all the ice & pointed a heat gun at the drain line and the back vents.
That was yesterday and I'm amazed how my unit is working - like it's brand new! I can't thank you enough! 👍👍👍👍👍

Thank you...thank you...thank you! Five stars!
Our side by side had an icy cold freezer but a fridge that was slowly climbing and at 55F. We asked around for reputable repair people and the soonest they could be here was three days. I watched this video, looked in the back of the freezer, saw the screws, and had the courage to tackle the problem by myself. A blow dryer to address MASSIVE ice and a shop vac to blow off the coils, and an hour later the fridge is at 44 and dropping a few degrees a minute.
I'd add one word of advice to others, put the food back in the freezer ASAP. Air in an empty fridge/freezer is harder to cool than solid objects, plus everything that came out was stored cold, so brought back coolness rapidly.
This video saved me the $90 service call for someone that would have at least done the same thing...if they didn't opt to replace anything.
Finally, the shop vac, you CAN try and vacuum the coils but, ours had multiple rows that were inaccessible. By removing front and back access covers, I was able to blow massive amounts of air over the coils and get 100% of the accumulated dust off...thank God for whole house HEPA filters! Even after vacuuming what I could, I was astounded by the amount of dust the shop vac blew out.

Your video helped resolve my cooling issue within minutes. I had just purchased a used refrigerator as a secondary unit that was working great at the appliance resale outlet and as soon as we unloaded it and got it home the fridge wouldn't cool but the freezer was on point. My problem wasn't ice but a sort of dampener that moved while we were placing the fridge. I appreciate you posting this and alleviating my having to load out back up and return it to the dealer.

The failure of that little fan is a common occurrence. The freezer creates all the cold and the fan just moves the cold air to the fridge. Those fans are available for $30 or less online and almost every fridge uses a similar, if not identical fan. I keep two of them on the shelf all the time just for this occasion.

Thank you so much! You saved my Thanksgiving meal! My fridge went out this week and my landlord couldn’t get anyone out in time to fix it. All the other videos I watched, I didn’t want to mess with electrical stuff really as that’s not my expertise. Your video was the only one that made sense to me so I tried it. I didn’t have the right screwdriver for the screws holding the back freezer plate, so instead, I took everything out of the freezer and just took a hot hairdryer to the back tube for 5 minutes and low and behold you could hear the ice melting and dropping! I had to use what I had and it worked, my fridge works again and my landlord is happy he doesn’t have to fix my fridge!

Thank you for the video. I pulled apart my fridge looking for the points you mentioned to check.. I ended up.. finding out the culprit. A magnet used for putting on a magnetic eraser board ended up stuck to the seal on the fridge section. That was enough to have the gasket pull away slightly on the fridge and it lose the capacity to keep the cold in. So a pointer is to check the simple stuff and make sure your seals are good. Thanks for the video btw.

Thanks for the explanation! I pulled apart the paneling on my old fridge and...uh wow, the ice build up was absolutely insane. Took a lot of effort and hot water to remove what amount to at least two pounds of ice that had formed a block nearly 1.5 inches thick around the entirety of the exchange coils. Even the screws were completely buried in ice. Guess I better look into the evaporator fan next to figure out how this ice could have accumulated.

Every 4 months I would have to take this apart and pour hot water down the drain hole to clear out the ice. The solution is to wrap 8-12 inch copper wire around the heating element and put the end of that wire down that drain hole so that when the element heats up it also melts the ice down in the drain hole. It solved my problem. (Make sure the wire is only touching aluminum and not any plastic.)

...or, you could just fix the heating element or thermostar... my problem is I checked everything except the control board and still have this problem...

Thank you for this video. I'm going to check my fridge now...it's most likely ice clogging the vent...I'm thinking I'll try defreezing the fridge first...if that doesn't work, I'll open the panels up.

    Thanks!
We have a newer side by side LG. Same, cold on freezer not very cold on refrigerator side. We took the inside panels off the refrigerator including LED lights and found ice! I also found the drain plugged with ice. (I believe that was the source of the trouble). I used a spray bottle with hot water and a piece of wire to finally clear the drain. I then checked behind the refrigerator that the drain was clear and used a leaf blower to clean all (made a mess!).... Thanks Again
