This is a perfect illustration on power band. You might high higher peak torque towards redline with a huge turbo, but the effective power band is extremely narrow due to torque being non-existent virtually anywhere else.
I've imported a "500WHP" boosted 350Z from the USA once, it made 370hp at the crank on our european dyno with horrible torque and power curves. It was well put together using quality parts, but the tune was really poor. A proper tuner managed to squeeze 550BHP out of it. I've sold the car two months after because it had absolutely no traction 😂. From my and my friends experience tuned cars from the USA are almost always really poorly tuned, have troubles with starting when cold, are jerky on partial throttle, misfire etc. Really weird tuning culture, most of the tuners in my country do a "street tuning session" after dyno tuning to ensure that the car works well on partial throttle etc, so even on a standalone ECU they are able to make the car work pretty much like a stock one.
Don't ever ask a racing driver if his sure about the brake test speed, he knows what he's doing and he has a tons of ⚽⚽. Even moreso if he's Irish.🤣 Really enjoyed this one.
That crazy civic has a really small power band, it's not spending much time in the power band in the lower gears making it slower than its power figure would suggest, also probably got boost by gear to stop it spinning up.

That RS5 makes us appreciate how far we have come in technology advancement. With lower horsepower and heavier weight it still out perform the Civic almost every time, while Sam the driver in the Civic was busy managing everything just to keep up, but yeah the main issue with his Civic is that he didn't have slick tires. Anyway I like the personality of Sam, keep him in this show!
Coming from a prior owner of a swapped civic hatchback, there’s a point where the power is too great for the civic…4WD or not. At 800hp, that car MUST have slicks to be able to utilize that kind of power. Like other already commented, you cant short shift this car, need to ride on the limiter until the wheels stop spinning so the speed of the car matches the gearing. Then you would get on boost quicker next gear.

Little bit of background. I am not going to thrash someone’s car!! Saying you should sit on the limiter is a not a solution for a car with a big turbo! If you could see the dash you would have seen that I wasn’t short shifting!! What you also didn’t see was the car was still spinning its wheels into the next gear!! Modulating the throttle doesn’t really work with a big turbo when you need to stay on boost. You would also not know that the owner had the car in a different map than he wanted Yes it was a type of sequential gear box but it wasn’t straight cut and the owner asked me to use the clutch and not to flat shift. The owner wasn’t there so we couldn’t change a few things to make it better The runway was very dusty so this didn’t help with grip. Yes there was lots we could do to improve the time. Tyre pressure Diff pre load Rake and ride height Change the shift light. Change the boost The list goes on… these are all things I do when I am racing When we have the time. We shoot multiple drags in multiple cars, my job as a professional is to jump in and get the best time I can, while taking care of the car and film set safety . If you can do a better job.. good I’m glad to hear it. We need good driver drivers in this industry. Get out there and put your racing history and driving Experience on a cv and send It in. Film yourself driving and put it online, show how good you are without trying to badmouth someone else!! Saying “ I COULD DO BETTER” is just embarrassing. 👍👍
Thank you MAT . I am always happy to see an RS5 . My dream car is the RS5 with the V8 4.2 liters and 450 hp . The mini HONDA dragster is a nightmare . Almost impossible to drive it.
Sam just wasn’t driving it properly. He’s shifting when it hits the limiter but the problem is he’s not actually going that speed so when he changes gear it then bogs down. You have to change gear when you’re actually going the speed it says on the Speedo and not just because it’s spun the tyres. It’s not Sam’s fault as he wouldn’t be used to these kind of cars or driving in this way.
Tyre slip and the viscous in the awd system seems like it’s not fully engaging causing it to be mostly fwd? Just saw a similar situation on another channel.

I thought i recognized that car built by Bisi. He had it on Jay Leno's Garage some time ago. Interestingly, his 1000?hp honda odyssey van was last place in racing lower powered cars in that Netflix series Fastest Car a few years ago. Big numbers aren't everything in actual racing. But definitely interesting and cool builds by him.

Sam just wasn’t driving it properly. He’s shifting when it hits the limiter but the problem is he’s not actually going that speed so when he changes gear it then bogs down.
You have to change gear when you’re actually going the speed it says on the Speedo and not just because it’s spun the tyres. It’s not Sam’s fault as he wouldn’t be used to these kind of cars or driving in this way.
The RS5 probably doesn't have a PPF in the exhaust like the euro ones do. Maybe that's why it felt quicker matt.

I thought i recognized that car built by Bisi. He had it on Jay Leno's Garage some time ago. Interestingly, his 1000?hp honda odyssey van was last place in racing lower powered cars in that Netflix series Fastest Car a few years ago. Big numbers aren't everything in actual racing. But definitely interesting and cool builds by him.
