It's painful to see how awesome Mitsubishis were as opposed to where they are now. A 4 door saloon simply humiliated all the 2 door rockets.
True,mitsubishi is finished when they decided to stop production of evo x and the lancer.
because mitsubishi is a four wheel drive vehicle. It doesn't matter if it's 4 or 5 doors.

These drag races are SO MUCH MORE FUN when the cars are all manual transmission. The bouncing of positioning, the drivers actually having to drive. I couldn't care less how much faster modern cars are, this is how it's meant to be.
I understand what you’re saying - however buying a performance car that you know to be comparatively slow, just shows how much emotion and how little rational thought goes into buying performance cars.

@@MrTroytroy not everyone wants the faster car, performance cars are all about how the driver drives it. manual drivers like the rawness the telling the car what to do and being exactly in control of how your car handles.

I played so much GT2, this has made me very happy!
After reviewing the specs, my money was on the NSX or RX-7 winning due to their power to weight ratios, but the Evo 6 came out of nowhere with insane runs every time. Such a great watch!
NSX and RX-7 arent built for drag race, they are performance cars in turn. In a race with a lot of corner, the supra would be last, followed by the chaser. RX7 would be first with the nsx, followed by the r34 if there is some straight lines.
The awd makes a huge difference

Yea that would be NSX vs RX7 … although you have to use a NSX-R vs a RX7 Type S
Matt didn't drive the NSX properly. He started at 3500 RPM in the rolling start. 🤦🙄
Goes to show how much it really comes down to the driver and getting good shifts in drag racing. Otherwise a remarkably balanced set of rivals! Really fun. ♥️
Yea launching a NSX being the only NA from 4000rpm is just criminal haha TH-camrs never really put in the work on how to drive a car.

Gran turismo is not about drag races tho, i wish they put more effort and took like 3 cars to track instead of a mega drag race, carwow has seriously dropped off in quality, even drag races don't get as many views as before because after some point people just stop caring about which car that they will never own ij their life would win in a straight line

This is my favorite Mat Watson drag race yet. To hear and SEE the manual shifting is awesome! No launch control, no soft limiters, no junk! Fantastic, and from such an iconic game, which itself was paying homage to gear heads and tuners, absolutely amazing! Well done carwow!
S15 is my dream car simply because of its weight balance and it’s appearance. I didn’t realize it could actually keep up as close as it did with those other legends. I’m Presently surprised.
My school teacher has a s15 and it’s always parked near the school, and I can see at any time
thanks to the gentlemens agreement in japan to limit the power to 280hp, they're all in the same range in stock condition

Love it. I had a red EVO 6 TME with 'tweaks', 350hp from that chassis and so much mechanical grip it was astounding.
That one also had some tweaks, I also owned a couple of EVO's and they do not run 13.0 stock.

I love seeing the cars go back and forth as they change gears!!! Didn't realise how much I miss this, with all the new cars having dct / automatic transmissions and linear acceleration.
Agreed. All engine and manual gearboxes. The traction control is your right foot. I have a 2002 Boxster S and it is just that. Flat 6 and a 6spd. No nannies except abs. Modern cars are a work of engineering, but nothing beats old school analog

Nothing feels organic as H drive cars...
Problem though, some of them can’t drive. My mother can shift gears faster lol. The r34 especially, the lag time between shifts. (Yikes) and no, don’t cry and say “it’s a classic” blah blah. No excuse, put a real driver in the car. It’s a DRAG race after all.
I shift my r33 faster in daily traffic. 😂
All new cars pretty much still have manual gearboxes, at least in Europe, you don't have to buy an automatic...
This was maybe one of the most entertaining vids I've seen on Carwaw 😂at every shift we had a new race leader! Simply brilliant!! 🤣

Realistically I love this particular NSX, but the evo is the one I'd most like to have.
It's the later 1jz with the single turbo too, not twin turbo. Best variant 👍
my preference was the NSX for sound. The lack of a turbo is good for that at least.

What a dream! This is my childhood! Loved the touches with the sounds and the graphics
I love how in these cars in the rolling race you don't have to push 5 different buttons, turn 4 dials according to the sun angle and fiddle with the paddles to get into sport mode. You push the pedal, you go full power.

Uhm i hate to say it, but you dont have to press anything other than the gas pedal, dct gearboxes cannot be beat by any human. And if we are talking about a modern manual ( if there is such a thing) it works the same. Clucth in, shift down, rev match, clutch out and push it. I dont even wanna mention an electric car, as those dont even have a lag in a rolling race due to not having a gearbox.

I've always dreamed about a drag race between R34 vs EVO 6, and I'm so happy to see that EVO wins. I appreciate to watch a race between the top three winners against Subaru, 3000GT 99, NSX 3.2 R and EV8 or 9 MR...carwow is literally the best motoring of this era..and Mat is the BEST journalist for the success

The statistics rather implied that the Evo was the logical winner, and I’m glad to see the numbers held up! I feel like you were missing some form of Impreza (obviously, from an owner…), but otherwise that was like watching a dream come true. So cool! I think, on looks alone, I’d want that Silvia, although it’s hard to look past the GT-R.

@@samthemadman5000 Yeah, I seem to recall there was even one where you were forced to use a specific vehicle - including some really slow categories. Some were like half a day's worth of gameplay, with no ability to save in the middle. I neither completed them all
That evo would carve mountains and leave the rest behind. Love evos, they're just so track/race oriented.
That awd system is just unbeatable.
i mean it's fast but you don't just win races by accelerating there's a lot of other things like grip and braking that would leave the evo maybe not dead last but not first either
The Evo is faster than all of them on track too then the gtr then the nsx
@@benditogames disagree Evo would beat most of them on a track (maybe not the nsx). Evos are known for their cornering ability from factory. AYC, active centre diff, big brembos (bigger than the Gtr)…the Evo is an all rounder. The braking test in this video doesnt prove anything. He literally said “I need new pads”

What is amazing is that the NSX in this video was an early 1991 5 speed one really used and still keep up. The NSX-R and the Type S were on the low 12s when new. Also the fastest on Nurburgring, amazing car no doubt.

Idk how you can justify NOT including the venerable GTO Twin Turbo. But i did love the nostalgia, bring the menu music and the 3 tone race start music you used as the race was starting. This takes me back to better days. I played my Gran Turismo for hours and forgot about the rest of the world. So this was pretty kick ass.

Great fun. As the owner of a BNR34 VSpecII, I was somewhat frustrated by the bogging at the start. Very easy to bog all of these cars at launch. In my car, I use 5,000rpm before dropping the clutch and managing the wheelspin at all four wheels. I get wheelspin at each change up to and including 4th. But then mine is nowhere near stock and I suspect that none of these were either - but by how much?
So just a bit of fun. It didn't set out to be a definitive check, so should not be seen as such.
It's amazing how accurate the video game is to real life even back then. I always used the Lancer Evo on as many circuit races as possible but drag racing was definitely either the Supra or Mitsubishi GTO
