I understand what you’re saying - however buying a performance car that you know to be comparatively slow, just shows how much emotion and how little rational thought goes into buying performance cars.

Gran turismo is not about drag races tho, i wish they put more effort and took like 3 cars to track instead of a mega drag race, carwow has seriously dropped off in quality, even drag races don't get as many views as before because after some point people just stop caring about which car that they will never own ij their life would win in a straight line

This is my favorite Mat Watson drag race yet. To hear and SEE the manual shifting is awesome! No launch control, no soft limiters, no junk! Fantastic, and from such an iconic game, which itself was paying homage to gear heads and tuners, absolutely amazing! Well done carwow!
I played so much GT2, this has made me very happy! After reviewing the specs, my money was on the NSX or RX-7 winning due to their power to weight ratios, but the Evo 6 came out of nowhere with insane runs every time. Such a great watch!
NSX and RX-7 arent built for drag race, they are performance cars in turn. In a race with a lot of corner, the supra would be last, followed by the chaser. RX7 would be first with the nsx, followed by the r34 if there is some straight lines.

S15 is my dream car simply because of its weight balance and it’s appearance. I didn’t realize it could actually keep up as close as it did with those other legends. I’m Presently surprised.
I love how in these cars in the rolling race you don't have to push 5 different buttons, turn 4 dials according to the sun angle and fiddle with the paddles to get into sport mode. You push the pedal, you go full power.
Uhm i hate to say it, but you dont have to press anything other than the gas pedal, dct gearboxes cannot be beat by any human. And if we are talking about a modern manual ( if there is such a thing) it works the same. Clucth in, shift down, rev match, clutch out and push it. I dont even wanna mention an electric car, as those dont even have a lag in a rolling race due to not having a gearbox.

Agreed. All engine and manual gearboxes. The traction control is your right foot. I have a 2002 Boxster S and it is just that. Flat 6 and a 6spd. No nannies except abs. Modern cars are a work of engineering, but nothing beats old school analog
Problem though, some of them can’t drive. My mother can shift gears faster lol. The r34 especially, the lag time between shifts. (Yikes) and no, don’t cry and say “it’s a classic” blah blah. No excuse, put a real driver in the car. It’s a DRAG race after all. I shift my r33 faster in daily traffic. 😂
So good to see the Evo getting the wins it deserves. Always been my JDM of choice. Best thing is... It'll do that in all conditions on all surfaces. Awesome car.

The statistics rather implied that the Evo was the logical winner, and I’m glad to see the numbers held up! I feel like you were missing some form of Impreza (obviously, from an owner…), but otherwise that was like watching a dream come true. So cool! I think, on looks alone, I’d want that Silvia, although it’s hard to look past the GT-R.
I've always dreamed about a drag race between R34 vs EVO 6, and I'm so happy to see that EVO wins. I appreciate to watch a race between the top three winners against Subaru, 3000GT 99, NSX 3.2 R and EV8 or 9 MR...carwow is literally the best motoring of this era..and Mat is the BEST journalist for the success

Even down to adding all the Gran Turismo sound effects and that screen showing the stats is straight out of Gran Turismo as well. Those little details just made all the difference ~

I love evos and always wanted one but after seeing the line up I was sleeping on it. Quite amazed with its performance. This is definitely a dream garage collection.
Idk how you can justify NOT including the venerable GTO Twin Turbo. But i did love the nostalgia, bring the menu music and the 3 tone race start music you used as the race was starting. This takes me back to better days. I played my Gran Turismo for hours and forgot about the rest of the world. So this was pretty kick ass.
It's amazing how accurate the video game is to real life even back then. I always used the Lancer Evo on as many circuit races as possible but drag racing was definitely either the Supra or Mitsubishi GTO

oh my god the memories.. the sound when “choosing” the cars is from GT4.. i’ve spend so many hours playing it and i’m still at 94% after 10+ years of owning the game
@@samthemadman5000 Yeah, I seem to recall there was even one where you were forced to use a specific vehicle - including some really slow categories. Some were like half a day's worth of gameplay, with no ability to save in the middle. I neither completed them all

Loved the video! I gotta point out that there was a mistake on the chaser specs, after 1996 the chaser went from twin turbo to a bigger single for more torque. I have a 99 here in Japan and it's a single.
i mean it's fast but you don't just win races by accelerating there's a lot of other things like grip and braking that would leave the evo maybe not dead last but not first either
@@benditogames disagree Evo would beat most of them on a track (maybe not the nsx). Evos are known for their cornering ability from factory. AYC, active centre diff, big brembos (bigger than the Gtr)…the Evo is an all rounder. The braking test in this video doesnt prove anything. He literally said “I need new pads”

The Chaser is one of my favorite cars of all time. If I won enough money, I'd buy 4 or 5 of them. It's very aesthetically pleasing. The shape of the car, the lights, bumpers, everything just goes really good together. It's hard to pick out what I don't like, I can usually pick one or two things at least... not with the Chaser.
All my favorite cars from 1997/9 my teenage cars, not being biased or anything because I’m still alive and believe still my time, but cars from 1975 to 2005 were something else 30 years proper engineering for example formula one look at it senna times and nowadays Fast but different type of fast, Abit off the topic,but look at the building and houses nowadays to old time house, still house but old houses built strong Matt Watson got the best job in the world Happy for this brother from my white mother ❤️💯 Only he could do this job and watch this guy and his videos in work, hospitals, waiting rooms, while having breakfast with kids. Sure must be the whole team to put these videos together rather than a one man show, so thanks to the whole team for putting up great videos 💯🫡

Oh Subaru STi once again being left out of the line up. 😅 I assume these are all tuned one way or another because of the inconsistent results but that Evo and Silvia were surprisingly quick.
This race brings a tear to my eye. The next generation is losing passion for driving. These cars were built to such higher specs and standards than cars today. Those 90s Japanese cars were so affordable at their time, easy to tune and a blast to drive. Best time in car history during my lifetime hands down
Absolutely love how everyone wanted to keep doing a retry retry retry and the Evo was happy to oblige and spank them again and again and again. Of course there will be courses where each of these cars will be more suited towards, and obviously the story may be different if you ran a half mile, but as far as the day to day race went between these cars, the Evo absolutely smashed it. It'd be interesting to see how well these cars could do if given like $10,000 to modify them or something as well. Maybe someone will line that up some day.
I always find it hilarious when I watch these cars launch and they’re relatively slow to the other cars Mat’s dragged race. No matter how slow these cars are, I’ll always love them.

Great fun. As the owner of a BNR34 VSpecII, I was somewhat frustrated by the bogging at the start. Very easy to bog all of these cars at launch. In my car, I use 5,000rpm before dropping the clutch and managing the wheelspin at all four wheels. I get wheelspin at each change up to and including 4th. But then mine is nowhere near stock and I suspect that none of these were either - but by how much? So just a bit of fun. It didn't set out to be a definitive check, so should not be seen as such.

That one also had some tweaks, I also owned a couple of EVO's and they do not run 13.0 stock.

Oh my. This takes me back. I was playing GT so much in the early 2000s and I remember I tuned an S4 B5 to like 600 horses to get my Suzuki Escudo with that huge wing later haha. Good times.

Gran Turismo 2 helped me through many lonely afternoons when I was little and made me love cars with passion. And damn those 300 lap races were so satisfying on the final laps. Oh and... Where's the Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak Edition?!

Idk how you can justify NOT including the venerable GTO Twin Turbo. But i did love the nostalgia, bring the menu music and the 3 tone race start music you used as the race was starting. This takes me back to better days. I played my Gran Turismo for hours and forgot about the rest of the world. So this was pretty kick ass.
As a GT addict, I absolutely LOVE EVERYTHING about this video.

It's amazing how accurate the video game is to real life even back then. I always used the Lancer Evo on as many circuit races as possible but drag racing was definitely either the Supra or Mitsubishi GTO
A drag race won't get better than this.... EVER. Performance car's from that era look the best & sound the best. Every one is a legend.... fact.

oh my god the memories.. the sound when “choosing” the cars is from GT4.. i’ve spend so many hours playing it and i’m still at 94% after 10+ years of owning the game

@@samthemadman5000 Yeah, I seem to recall there was even one where you were forced to use a specific vehicle - including some really slow categories. Some were like half a day's worth of gameplay, with no ability to save in the middle. I neither completed them all

Loved the video! I gotta point out that there was a mistake on the chaser specs, after 1996 the chaser went from twin turbo to a bigger single for more torque. I have a 99 here in Japan and it's a single.
That evo would carve mountains and leave the rest behind. Love evos, they're just so track/race oriented.
That awd system is just unbeatable.
i mean it's fast but you don't just win races by accelerating there's a lot of other things like grip and braking that would leave the evo maybe not dead last but not first either
The Evo is faster than all of them on track too then the gtr then the nsx
@@benditogames disagree Evo would beat most of them on a track (maybe not the nsx). Evos are known for their cornering ability from factory. AYC, active centre diff, big brembos (bigger than the Gtr)…the Evo is an all rounder. The braking test in this video doesnt prove anything. He literally said “I need new pads”

This is amazing what a list of cars. I remember seeing a 92 NSX at the dealer when they first came out and was blown away. The front end still looks fantastic even today.

This has taken me back, really nice, when manufacturers made cars for drivers to have fun and enjoy driving them, nowadays its all about crazy horse 🐎 power no.s, and crazy prices that one can't even use in the streets. Only car missing here is the WRX sti.. keep up the good work lads.

This video was pure nostalgia, one of the best ever for me on car wow, some fantastic cars there but the NSX is for me cloud 9. (Bar the owners personal touches, each to their own! 😀)

The Chaser is one of my favorite cars of all time. If I won enough money, I'd buy 4 or 5 of them. It's very aesthetically pleasing. The shape of the car, the lights, bumpers, everything just goes really good together. It's hard to pick out what I don't like, I can usually pick one or two things at least... not with the Chaser.
All my favorite cars from 1997/9 my teenage cars, not being biased or anything because I’m still alive and believe still my time, but cars from 1975 to 2005 were something else 30 years proper engineering for example formula one look at it senna times and nowadays

I assume these are all tuned one way or another because of the inconsistent results but that Evo and Silvia were surprisingly quick.
This race brings a tear to my eye. The next generation is losing passion for driving. These cars were built to such higher specs and standards than cars today. Those 90s Japanese cars were so affordable at their time, easy to tune and a blast to drive. Best time in car history during my lifetime hands down
Agreed, our time is over, cars are becoming nothing more than emotionless appliances these days and it will only get worse. Sad times.
Absolutely love how everyone wanted to keep doing a retry retry retry and the Evo was happy to oblige and spank them again and again and again. Of course there will be courses where each of these cars will be more suited towards, and obviously the story may be different if you ran a half mile, but as far as the day to day race went between these cars, the Evo absolutely smashed it.
It'd be interesting to see how well these cars could do if given like $10,000 to modify them or something as well. Maybe someone will line that up some day.

I always find it hilarious when I watch these cars launch and they’re relatively slow to the other cars Mat’s dragged race. No matter how slow these cars are, I’ll always love them.

Great fun. As the owner of a BNR34 VSpecII, I was somewhat frustrated by the bogging at the start. Very easy to bog all of these cars at launch. In my car, I use 5,000rpm before dropping the clutch and managing the wheelspin at all four wheels. I get wheelspin at each change up to and including 4th. But then mine is nowhere near stock and I suspect that none of these were either - but by how much?
So just a bit of fun. It didn't set out to be a definitive check, so should not be seen as such.
