I've struggled with dry skin with tretinoin for 2 years. I am finally getting some relief by using the sandwich method (moisturizer, tretinoin, moisturizer). Thank you for this video.

So glad you mentioned SLUGGING!!! been using Retin-A (and all your recommendations) for 5 years/5 days a week (took 8 months to get no irritation). 62, normal to dry skin and I would STILL get skin shedding several times a week no matter my skin care routine. THANKS to YOU using CeraVe healing ointment to slug has finally made difference!

I've had so much success with my tret. After a little bit of trial and the error I was experiencing some minor dryness, no major irritation. But here's what I figured out and it worked so well. I happen to have laroche posse triple repair moisturizing cream for face and body. And alveno 2% oatmeal eczema cream Gel. I take A pea sized amount of that moisturizer and put it on my face while it's almost dripping wet. I basically turn this into a very hydrating toner .. Then I wait 30 minutes for my face to be completely dry. And apply the tret..... I wait a few minutes for it to absorb. And then I do a double moisturizer. Alveno eczema therpy and more triple repair. This also scratches that itch to have a multi step skin care. Because I love taking my time and applying multiple products at night. So this scratched the itch, but also helped with the tolerance. On off nights, i basted with cicaplast balm or but paste. It took only 3 weeks to get to daily use.

Always thorough! I started Tret in January, used it directly after cleansing, found myself turning into a tomato 🍅 then learned about the sandwich method. Now I follow this method: cleanse, toner, eye serum, Cera ve pm, tret, peptides, Cera ve moisturizer done 5 days, 3 tret, exfoliate, 2 tret, exfoliate, seems to work well, skin is softer.

Should I skip that area altogether, or give it a go again? I used most of these techniques last time, but will wait longer for the face to be dry, or may have to try the short contact version.

Hi dr. Dray, perfect timing for this video as I've started experiencing irritation top of my upper lips, my chin and also dryness on my forehead. Using retinol isn't new to me. I've been using CeraVe retinol serum for a couple years now but had no issue. I started the GoldBond retinol cream since December as I wanted to try it out and it was great but this irritation started could weeks ago. I thought maybe pollen allergy. I use vaseline in those areas and switched to Cetaphil hydrating cleanser and stopped the CerVe acne face wash. It does work but I have to reapply vaseline in the middle of the day. Does weather contribute these symptoms too?

Hi Dr. Dray, I tried 0.03% retinol since I'm a beginner and experienced insomnia and woke up the next day with a migraine. I know it was the retinol because I have a regular routine and it was the only thing that changed :/ Looking up online I'm not alone and I even found neurology journal links referencing intercranial pressure and other side effects like joint pain with vitamin A topicals. I assume I am in the minority since most don't seem to experience these issues, but why is this never talked about? It's come to the point where people online gaslight me about my experiences, because they have never heard of it happening, which is super frustrating.

I would check Dr. Dray's hyperpigmentation videos. One product she's recommended is la roche posay Glycolic B5 10% pure glycolic acid serum (formerly mela-d pigment control) - glycolic, kojic, LHA (derivative of SA), tranexamic, panthenol (vit b5). Some others from other dermatology channels are Faded topicals (tranexamic, niacinamide, alpha arbutin, azelaic, kojic derivative, licorice), Peace Out dark spot serum (tranexamic acid, alpha arbutin, niacinamide, kojic acid), Urban skin rx advanced even tone day & night treatment (5% niacinamide, 3% tranexamic acid, 2% kojic acid, 1% bakuchiol), Vichy liftactiv b3 serum (niacinamide, tranexamic acid, glycolic, ascorbyl glucoside), JJ Labs Skin Solutions Skin Brightening and AntiAging Solution (tranexamic, arbutin, vit c/e, licorice, HA), Touch bright and clear cream* (10% azelaic, 5% niacinimade, 3% kojic acid, 3% tranexamic acid) *better for layering under makeup, Good molecules discoloration serum - tranexamic acid, niacinamide, Paula’s choice discoloration serum - tranexamic acid, niacinamide, bakuchiol (as antioxidant)

Agency Future Formula is prescription tretinoin plus other active ingredients. They do all biz on-line, including prescriptions and shipping so you don't need to ask your doctor or find a dermatologist.

Dr Dray likes the maelove fade away brightening serum (alpha arbutin, kojic acid, licorice, glutathione). She's also liked the PCA skin pigment gel HQ free - kojic acid, Phenylethyl Resorcinol, azelaic, glutathione. And in one of her hyperpigmentation videos (also good resources) she's talked about the LRP Glycolic B5 10% pure glycolic acid serum - glycolic, kojic, LHA (derivative of SA), tranexamic, panthenol (vit b5)

I would love to see alternatives to mineral oil and petroleum as buffers for retinoids for people with acneic skin. Cuz trying to use those when you're already acne-prone is not helpful and only makes acne worse.

@@db-gb5xicocoa butter is fairly comedogenic (as is shea butter, though derms and esthies seem to be divided on that), but beeswax might be a good option!

Hello Dr. Dray, can you tell me what is the strongest OTC Retinol product available? My goal is to boost Collagen production in my face, no acne or discoloration problems. I have already used a few retinol products with no irritation but no visibile results, so now I am looking for the strongest one. With so many 'retinol-retinoid-retinal-granactive' products on the market it's hard to compare percentages. Thank you.

    Hi Dr. Dray
Certain areas of my face (right side of my forehead, between my eyebrow and hairline) are more sensitive than others, becoming red and peeling whereas the rest of my face does not react. I currently do the pancake method (mosituriser - retinol - thicker moisturiser). Do I continue to apply to those areas or alternate days for those areas? What do you recommend?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

I have listened to one of your vids and have thought that I would use Neutrgena’s Rapid Wrinkle Repair. I am most interested in fading sun spots and help with lip lines. From what I understand, there is no need for a moisturizer with this product? Is this a product where one should go slow as well? Once a week, then augment as tolerated? Am I correct in thinking that this product is good for lip wrinkles and age spots? Thank you for your informative vids!
Also, is this product to be used just one a day? So, I would need another moisturizer for the day?

I think I've posted this information before, but _First Aid Beauty_ makes a 0.3% Retinol Complex Face Serum with Peptides that is GREAT for those with sensitive (to retinol/retinal/retinaldehyde) skin or if you're just starting out with the ingredient. You can get it at all the standard places 😊

What is actually the reason for retinoids to be potentially more irritating under the ear lopes, the corners of the nose or mouth? It doesn't irritate my eyelid skin if I use a tiny bit of tacky leftover of the cream on my fingertips, but I wonder if it could potentially affect my eyes even if it doesn't irritate my eyelid skin. Could it actually migrate through the skin into the eyeballs. 🧐 Have a great day 🌺

the skin in these areas is thin, and/or susceptible to repeat creasing/folding, which enhances irritancy

Dr. Dray... I love your content. However after introducing new actives to my regimen I am now breaking out horribly... it's embarrassing. I'm a 31 year old single man and fought acne into my mid 20s, been on accutane 3x. I don't know what to do... I barely eat bc everything messes up my skin, and my skin is so sensitive. It's only my face 😣 How do I find the reason?? Do you think it could be hormonal? I've been anxious and depressed lately over this... And how, as a man, can I treat it if it is hormonal?
