I've already got one! It was not a 15 minute fit, though! Read on. First off, I punctured the front tube twice, trying to get the tyre back onto the rim, with those horrible plastic levers. Then I sanded off all the corners and edges. (I now have some steel ones!) Third time seems to be lucky. I've still got a pinhole somewhere, as the tyre drops from 50 psi to nothing over a fortnight. Second problem - the cadence sensor doesn't fit! It is 4.5mm thick, and I only had a 2mm gap between the pedal crank and the bottom bracket! I eventually snipped all the plastic 'fingers' off, and dremeled out the hole a little bit, so it fitted onto the crank taper, where - once I'd got it aligned, I superglued it, and then epoxied it to make sure. (Halfords? Apollo Gradient full-sprung mtb) Third problem. If you plug in both brake sensors (two supplied, two sockets on the unit) the control unit thinks that the brakes are on, and cuts the power. Unplug either one, and it works fine. Of course, I didn't use the illegal thumb throttle (haha) but found that if you do, all the hassle with the cadence ring is a waste of time, as there is no need to pedal! (unless you want to go faster than 15.5!) Now, IF it stops raining for long enough, I'll go and test it!
@@e-VRC My tyre came off the original rim with no major hassles, but getting it onto the new wheel - - - - I suspect that the rim is a couple of mm deeper, making it a real struggle, as it had never been off before, so the wire bead wasn't stretched.
I already had, and it wasn’t expensive, a longer crankshaft from a previous conversion so it was easy to fit the smaller and more durable V12 sensor ring. A significant improvement in my opinion. I will be fitting a throttle for faster getaways (angry cows etc) and didn’t bother with the brake sensors
Thanks for the tips folks. I've been loking at conversion kits lately, and this one is so easy to install it's a no brainer. I'll be ordering a unit for the wife's bike soon.
Looks an excellent build! Very nice conversion. It certainty takes the effort out of cycling and is a lot of fun. Looks an excellent kit and well engineered.
It's always good to see an independent review. This has been on my to get list since the summer, and will hopefully be purchasing in the next week or so. So I'll see if the discount code still works ;-) More than anything I'm looing forward to not having to cycle up a hill that raises about 100ft in elevation in about 1/3 of a mile. I can do it, but it breaks my soul every day.
3:15 a really serious point to make here, you need to make sure you fit the torque washers correctly here, or the torque from the motor will end up stripping out the slots on your forks and will twist the power cable, the forks alone dont have enough strength for the motor shaft slot
💞Converting a bicycle into an electric one with the kirbebike kit has environmental benefits by reducing reliance on fuel, lowering carbon emissions, and promoting eco-friendliness. It also offers cost savings compared to buying a brand-new electric bike, particularly for those who already own a bicycle. Additionally, it allows for customization, letting you choose a bicycle that suits your preferences and needs, and then transform it into an electric bike using the kit, enhancing the bike's personalization
Better still, with your 35 quid discount code and a black Friday deal that was still going. I got my kit near on a 70 quid cheaper than what you said ;-) I guess it's worth a sub haha
Can I cycle with the engine off? I'd like to buy it for a couple of moderate hills (or so Google Maps says, but for me, they're quite tough 😰) and cycle without it when it's flat or downhill.
This is an easy sub. I trusted your reviews on VR headsets and accessories on your other channel so it is a no-brainer to trust them here too. I nearly bought a swytch kit for my Brompton but reading between the lines of various reviews I suspect that the battery life is a bit hit-and-miss. Sometimes you get lucky sometimes it lasts more than five minutes so I am here looking for an alternative. So, can you please tell me if you noticed a dramatic decrease in battery life of the Kirk and would you still recommend it?
Onviously people can get unlucky and much as we'd like to think Kirbebike kits are made by him, he is still working with a company that mass produces them. However mine is still going strong.... thanks for coming over from the VR channel 👍👍
I know you are a busy man, you put so much into the content of your videos I am grateful for the reply. I was on the fence with Kirbebike on one side, and Swytch on the other. All this rocking back and forth is giving me piles:)@@e-VRC
oh yeah all those damn happy people riding around having orgasmic experiences down to a battery....hummm where have I seen that before. Anyhoo, happy hunting for good content.@@e-VRC

Then you can say that about any road legal ebike. The speed isn't the point of this it's about accessibility and ease i.e. so you're not sweaty after riding to work.
@celticbhoy14not on my ebike. As long as the pedals are slowly going around I can go at top speed all day long. I ride all year and it's not a problem at all.
@celticbhoy14If I had your experience, perception and knowledge I would not have bought this kit and would be missing out on all the fun this conversion has given me over the past few months …
More of Meg she’s a natural !
Agreed!

I definitely agree about the tyre levers. Getting the tyre off was a ball ache but I didn't put that issue down to the kit.
Hope yours works well when it stops raining.

Yeah the bike seemed similar to before the conversion when pedaling without power.

I shall take a look. I kinda forgot about settings 😅
I'm yet to find anything related to getting into settings, would you mind advising how I do it. Needless to say, I'll try some different combos
