- A multi-actor reading of The Mystery of the Hidden House from Enid Blyton's Mystery series with the 5 Find-Outers and Buster the dog. This from book 6 in the original series written in 1948.
When PC Goon's nephew, Ern, arrives in Peterswood for the Holidays, he's full of ideas for detecting! The Five Find-outers think up a first class mystery complete with clues and send Ern and Mr Goon off on a wild goose chase. However, Ern stumbles on what appears to be a real mystery. Once again, the Five Find-outers are on the trail of a really thrilling adventure.
This audio theatre reading/dramisation was adapted by Derek Webb and performed by Eric Flynn, Judy Bennett, Nigel Pegram, Amber D'Albert, Rowan D'Albert, Candace Hallinan, Jamie Hughes-Ward and Truan Munroe. It is abridged with a 69 minute running time, but the story still develops well. These shorter dramatizations are ideal for 'reading' in a single sitting and are great for relaxing bedtime, or car journeys with kids. Released in 1995 by Tempo Children's Classics.
This is shared from a recording of a cassette tape, so lots of old-fashioned tape noises and hiss, but still very listenable and an enjoyable telling for childhood nostalgia and relaxation or for excitement in new generation of imaginative listeners.

omg i used to have this exact tape back in the days.i always loved these dramatised version with sound affects and all over the ones where just someone was reading it.

Love these, the best series of these tapes. Don’t suppose you have The Mystery of Banshee Towers, from the same series?
Sorry, I don't. But I'm on the look out to acquire the rest of this series (I think 11 of these stories were made including Banshee Towers). They are a bit more rare than the other ones though.

Ern was a bit different! They really were going with hamming up on him being a different class to the others.

@@stevengrayson1853 Yeah, it's more like a famous five story. Same as the book - less of a mystery and more of the Ern/Fatty show. In some ways that's better for this format. I think the mystery stories lose a with the simplification.

I have the Spiteful Letters - but have problems with my copy. Lots of wobble and only plays for short batches and then stops. I have some ideas to fix these cassettes in the naughty box. So hopefully can get it up.
Can you get these cassettes anywhere
The Find outers ones seem fairly rare compared with others. I reckon most cassette got binned over the years as seen as worthless.

I remember the gang from childhood but can't remember any of the stories, such a long time ago, 50 years. Can't imagine children being encouraged to read these nowadays, 'Fatty' isn't deemed as PC these days. Such a shame.
