    To clarify what happened to Fairy Godmother at the end, she cast a spell that basically cancels out all the magic within a target. If the spell hit Shrek or Fiona, it would have turned them back into ogres. When it hit Harold, it turned him back into a frog, and when the spell bounced off his armor and hit Fairy Godmother, it destroyed her because she's a purely magical being.

    • @leovk5779
      @leovk5779 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      Hm. I saw it more as a "kill" spell, she really wanted her revange, hence why she died, but the king's armor deflected most of it so he was less affected? (In my theory, that also might explain why in Shrek 3 -SPOILER REDACTED-, which came a bit out of nowhere.)
      Your explanation makes sense, but I feel it's too nice for the evil character that she is. "Ill just turn you back into ogres, that'll teach you!" And then what, how does that even help her in any way?

    • @peterseaboldt1250
      @peterseaboldt1250 ปีที่แล้ว +53

      @@leovk5779 I think in her mind, just having Shrek's "divine beauty" taken away and being an ogre is punishment enough. Plus, she was all about spoiling her son, so she likely wanted to see Charming fulfill his role by slaying the "monster" and getting the girl.

    • @leovk5779
      @leovk5779 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@peterseaboldt1250 Maybe, yeah. But she clearly aims at both of them, so it would also have made Fiona an ogre too. Any plan was out the window, I'm thinking she was more seeking revenge, but having Charming slaying "Shrek the monster" makes sense.

    • @peterseaboldt1250
      @peterseaboldt1250 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      @@leovk5779 If she turned Fiona into an ogre, Fairy Godmother could easily have turned her back, because Fiona's not "really" an ogre in the first place. In fact, some believe that Fairy Godmother is really the witch that caused her situation to begin with.

    • @leovk5779
      @leovk5779 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@peterseaboldt1250 Nah. That I don't believe at all: it's a curse, and even Fairy Godmother wasn't able to lift it easily. Everything points to that: she tried to send Charming, but too late; if she could have lifted the curse at any time, I don't think she would have missed the opportunity. Also, in Shrek 4 (SPOILERS just in case obviously) we see the parents desperate that say that even Fairy Godmother couldn't do anything, which means that even without Shrek her plan FAILS and Charming likely gets killed by the dragon. Fiona, having waited for so long, then rescue herself, with the curse not lifted.
      Also, after Shrek 1, yes Fiona IS really an ogre, the curse is lifted. She is, and I quote "beautiful in the eyes of her lover". That is her true form now, not just the curse lingering.
      The potion in Shrek 2 only temporarily turns her back into a human, and only true love's kiss could have definitively turned her into a human again (a power stronger than the curse, like in Shrek 1 and even Shrek 4, a power that even the Fairy Godmother cannot wield at will.)

He doesn’t wanna go to a place where him and his kind have been discriminated against for generations, and she convinces him otherwise. Yet the moment they get there they’re given immediate hostility, especially from her father. After argument at the dinner table, she tells Shrek that he’s being unreasonable when he actually wasn’t. Her father was the one who really started it, and all Shrek did was defend her and call him out on being neglectful father. At least the queen tried to keep things civil.

    The Latin Spanish dub is iconic in its’ own right. Even Antonio Banderas actually got to voice Puss in Spanish and not just for this film.
    @5:05-@5:15 still one of my favorite parts of the movie. In the Latin Spanish dub, he was like “basta, Rogelio.”
    Eugenio Derbez cracked me up as Donkey. In the dub, he was like “ya mérito?”
    @15:22 I know it’s been 20 years, but Pete Yorn’s cover of Ever Fallen In Love is still my jam.

    The roar that Mongo makes when he's angry is the Godzilla roar, as he's meant to be like a kaiju (japanese giant monster). Originally, he was gonna be like this all throughout the scene but he came across an unsympathetic so he was made childish and dumb until he was provoked to anger.

    Shrek 2 is one of those phenomenon's where it seems almost universally, people recognize it as an amazing movie. I've talked to people all over the world who had seen it and they loved it, Shrek in general has such good storytelling and comedic moments. Considering it started as a punishment, people who didn't perform well on Prince of Egypt were "shreked", sent to work on what they thought was a failure, turned out to be a classic.

    I remember loving this movie. I loved fairy tales as a kid, Puss in Boots was my favorite. I like how they put in a hint to his original story about slaying an ogre into this by making it his job. I like that King Harold is hinted to be the Frog Prince. The swans in Fairy Godmothers factory turning into swans, the little Easter eggs are so good.
