Just so you know... I have been waiting on this song since i heard it live. Hearing it like this is even more incredible. Every little nuance. You guys never fail to amaze me
Everybody is freaking out about El Estepario Siberiano, but you are my absolute favorite drummer right now. I hope to see more covers from your latest album.
That’s one thing I love about brands like meinl or zildjian. They’re bringing awareness to their artists through these play through videos. Sabian didn’t do shit for Jay in terms of advertising him. So sad.
Have taken lessons with Jay - you need the HH to know where tf you are in the complex grooves...it's actually a coping mechanism. I spent 20 years without pedalling my HH and now it's second nature and extremely liberating (thanks to our man Jay).
@slashesjdt It's a 3:2 polyrhythm where we feel the pulse as the 2 part (stack) and the 3 part is grouped in 4 (HH). There are many ways to look at it but 5:4 is not one of them.
It really is. It's the perfect mix between all their previous album especially of One and Altered State. And they have even managed to add something new. This album is a masterpiece from start to finish.
For me the bands foundation is One, every albums has built on this, but War of Being has aspects of all of them, but is far more diverse with production, making the album more interesting a journey. Earlier albums, as much as I love them, the production are quite limiting of their sound. War of Being has brought the heavier djent compositions of One, that each album on, the more progressive compositions of Altered State, the more melodic compositions of Polaris, where the bands production expanded, and the bigger sounding riffs and refined compositions of Sonder, where King is representative of. War of Being, compositionally, has brought all these elements together and by far the most developed to date. Others can still prefer older albums, like Altered State, and I have loved all their albums since I discovered them in 2011, but, if we were to be objective regarding composition, production, technical skill, vocal range, emotional feel, War of Being is the most advanced. The band took a risk and wrote an album that "feels" right, members have stated they dropped the "ego" and thought more about what songs "needed" not simply how "difficult" they could make every section to play. They also mentioned, each member "contributed" more to the songs this album. At the moment, if I had to choose a track I currently like most, I would choose Sacrifice. Again, this album is an achievement of the TesserecT approach to modern metal.
these drum tracks give me a whole new appreciation for each song... Jay is moving into the top echelon of the greatest drummers of all time, the world hasn't caught up yet. TesseracT is one of the most underrated bands today IMO.
First I've tried with Moises app, then I realized I was missing something ... then I've looked for a video explaining how to play this master piece... now I know only Jay can play it... long life Jay!!!
I don’t know if you can call it the breakdown section of the song, but where it ramps up and stays at the same intensity for so long, before going back and doing the intro segment again, it’s the best part of the song and it looks like it would be so much fun to play
man this mix is so much better than the album, the bass is significantly more impactful and atmospheric! need all of the songs covered in this mix please Jay! 😍
Are you guys listening to the new album through a wire and a tin can?? Album mix is great and really highlights Jay without losing the impact of the rest of the band. Listening through my Bose car audio, studio monitors, and Audio Technica headphones....all sound good.
When you hear this the first time, you will directly know it's Jay playing Tesseract! Unbelievable signature sound! Some of the grooviest metal on the planet!
I remember when I first saw Jay's playthrough of Deception around 10 years ago and it blew my mind; the progression of his playing on War of Being is momentous.
Jay is has literally become one of the best drummers of modern day music in any genre. As a drummer myself, I get giddy watching how recognized he's become and he plays some of the hardest mind fuck things and makes it look easy. I play a lot of metal and other great drummers, but trying to learn Jays stuff is absolutely some of the hardest to learn. I put him up there with Matt Garstka at this point!
@@Daddy-ep8ng I place him in the same tier as Gartska, though, Gartska has a more jazz fusion flavour. Another drummer that I place on their level is James Knoerl of Aviations.
Just when i got a handle on playing that awesome section in 'war of being'... boom! back to the all day, everyday listening saturation! Thank you Jay and Tesseract for giving me so much pain that hurts so good! Legends! Much Love to Brothers. Keep kicking ass and doing it your way!!!
What i love of Tesseract is they sound so fucking clean and satisfying, every note they play sounds huge and powerful but still so precise and clean.. always in the right place. A pleasure for the ears
Sin dudas una de las mejores canciones de este disco, tremendo que sea la primera, te deja muy buena impresión, Natural Disaster, Legion and Sacrifice...
@JayTesseracT We'd better see this sort of facial animation whilst playing on tour in the US in the next months!!! Cheers! Great vid! Excellent new album! Loving it! See you in AZ on Nov. 4!!!
My guess from personal experience would be that he just tunes it really REALLY low, like kick drum low. But it's hard to say for sure. I think it might also be an 18 which definitely helps with fatness.
@@BionicleSaurus yeah i remember jay saying in a podcast that he likes using the floor tom as an extension of the bass drum, so i imagine its tuned super low

@@EdNieves82, they all are very friendly! Go and enjoy the concert and meet them!
My god the stick height and dynamic control of those single strokes on the snare during that intro... class.
1:14 To play this groove with your left foot on hi hat like this is insane
he's doing a 5:4 polyrhythm between the hat and the stack, which is fucked
its disgusting and foul

Jays energy is infectious, limb independence is impeccable. And groove…. Immaculate. What a force.
chunkiest groove at 1:12 for the early 2010s vibe
Jays face puts this at an 11 out of 10
He plays with the excitement of a children's TV presenter. God speed, sir. Love ya!
Jay always delivers that heat

Was adding the Stengah face to your arsenal intentional or did your love of Meshuggah seep in?
"Sacrifice" video please
JAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
are those heads yellow or is that just the lighting?
Why are all the Tesseract backing tracks in this series instrumental by the way?
Probably just to focus on them instead of the vocals, many subtleties may get lost behind them.
Is it the camera angle, or does that snare diameter look big af? or is it just me
Crispy.😊
Can anyone tell me how Jay achieves that kind of fat and dry floor tom sound without seemingly any muffling at all?
My guess from personal experience would be that he just tunes it really REALLY low, like kick drum low. But it's hard to say for sure. I think it might also be an 18 which definitely helps with fatness.
Yeah, they seem pretty loose. Head choice and eq play a part, too.
The head is so loose you can see one of the tension rods rattling around. He probably goes through a lot of heads
18" floor, G2 top, G1 bottom, both heads tuned lowwwww
