The canon version might be my favorite. In the legends, it looked like someone who would kill without thought when the guy was literally wondering "how could the jedi be evil?" Then Vader literally proved him right by just killing him, so how the fuck did anyone else not think "Are we the bad guys?" But the Canon did his job in establishing "you fuck with me, this is what happens""
I like how the Emperor told Vader to kill anyone but Tarkin. It explains why the Grand Moff spoke so boldly to Vader; he probably knew how highly regarded he was by Palpatine, and thus that he was safe from Vader's wrath.
There's one thing that's really good about the Legends intro -- that whole bit about re-assigning credit for Clone Wars victories from dead Jedi to living Imperials. It explains why there are so many senior officers in the Empire who can't seem to find their own butt with both hands and a GPS unit.
Palpatine: "And he hates to have a lower ground than someone-dont ask why,you are going to die in seconds-and also, he misses half of his legs, his hair, half of his arms and his Jedi like black clothing style."
Any more questions? No one... Literally no one... Me: (rises hand) Lord Palpatine I have a family secret moisturizer that might help you with the dry skin of yours.

I find the Legends version better because it's not the lame evil-empire shit but shows that there were even in the empire mind lighted people and that it was a complex way to form the empire to that what we know from movies 4 to 6.
@@jackattackanims8387 The Emperor and some Imperial officers like Tarkin were evil. The average Imperial Naval crewman or even the average Stormtrooper weren’t evil by any means. In fact, many Stormtrooper recruits were simply patriotic Imperials who wanted to join the “Boys in White” because they admired the clone troopers growing up as children during the Clone Wars and wanted in on what to them was an honorable profession.
"My lord, the officers keep trying to assonance me. Make them stop!" I can't believe the empire would allow the harassment of a burned victim Wow thank you all for the likes
Juan Catalan You say that but then you see Vader owning everyone but still has a bit of Anakin in him. I like the new canon more It also makes sense since in canon nobody knew who Vader fucking was
i agree with majora, while i dislike a lot of the changes made to cannon by disney, vaders new backstory seems more real, anakin didnt become a badass out of the blue just because he wore some armor, even in revange of the sith, after he betrayed the jedi, he still had many issues that held him back, so for his rise as simbol of fear in the empire to make sense it should be a process, something like what happened in the original cannon was a bit too simplistic for me.
Doralingus & Assorted Not simplistic at all. In "Dark Lord : The Rise of Darth Vader" you saw Vader just weeks after Revenge of the Sith. Yes a lot of Admirals didn't like him. But, besides just tearing people apart, you see him use his intelligence and earn respect. He didn't always just Force Choke people. Remember that he was a General of the Clone Wars as Anakin and an expert Duelist. You see these gifts become stronger as Darth Vader. The admirals didn't like a lot of his decisions because they couldn't see where he was coming from. Until they saw his success and then just shut up. You also see how Palpatine was training him to become a Sith Lord by manipulating him. Giving him a reason to WANT to live and to one day Overthrow him. You even hear from Vader what a weird and horrible experience wearing that suit was. In the Disney Cannon everything is about stupid missions Vader did (and an ungodly amount of stories about his stupid Light Saber Crystal yuck). Legends did a far better job at showing Vader's character.
Majora Not really. In Legends, Palpatine slowly introduced Vader and actually made it climatic when he meets Baal Organa. Organa already knows he's Anakin and has to pretend he doesn't know who he is. Organa is even scared that Vader will sense who Leia is as a baby. Also in Disney Cannon is all about him throwing Temper tantrums and no finess. In Legends, you see Vader train hard. Creating a Hybridized Light Saber style. Throwing himself into Palpatine's training. In fact in Legends Palpatine ACTUALLY trains him. In Disney, Palpatine throws a few scraps at him but he's barely above Darth Maul. Not even a real Sith. In Legends he was. And he was aware of Sith History. You also watch him eventually develope other Dark Side powers including a version of Force Lightning that is a sphere of electricity. He forms from outside his body to throw like a grenade at enemies. Legends Vader was more sophisticated and complex. Disney Vader is a whiny Darth Maul.
he didn't let him finish though (at least it sounded like he had more to say). OTOH, even though those that spoke for the Jedi were exe-chocked, at least there were those who were willing to speak up for them. And even though the rest don't want to die, at least they know that the "Jedi" now are strangling Imperial officers rather than helping them.
This might sound like a joke but could you do a video on Vader’s sense of humor because getting to read some of the comics he still had one for example his fight with the 9th assasin
I was skipping through the ad manually and somehow managed to only hear "Robots" So my clicking through a few seconds at a time turned into: "Robot, Robots, robots, Robot! robots..."
I like the legends introduction more it made sense especially coming off the heels of the clone wars were about 99% of the officers corp had fought with the jedi and personally knew how they acted
Trizzdebos s well actually Legends is better only if you read the entire thing. Canon stories are made to stand off... you can read a comic without reading the entire thing. Legends stories are one after the other... you need to read a lot. But if you do read all of the comics... you'll definitely start loving Legends way more the canon. Trust me. What is better? Stories verified by George Lucas or some bunch of people from Disney who call themselves the "star wars experts"
GodofWarJCD NO! I meant he verified them. When someone made a story for a comic or game George checked it before its release - this ensured that the story would not be contradictory. When the new canon was created, Lucas was removed from Lucasfilm and this story verifying ritual is done by a group of people hired by Disney.
I like the canon version better because it shows that Vader won't care if he casually kills any Imperial who gets in his way. This will motivate the Imperial leaders to actually be smarter in giving reasons why they should be spared Vader's wrath. In addition, Vader killing 5 random officers is an example of Vader saying that he doesn't care about anyone's background (powerful families, powerful influence, or neither) unless they must prove to him that they are worthy of his attention and trust.
Teddy Kgb palp put him in that suit purposely cause vader coulda put him in his place any time he wanted if it wasn’t for the suit. everyone knows vader is a monster
After witnessing fellow Imperials get whacked by Vader, I'd want to resign too. No wonder the Empire lost the war, he forced choked the command staff that made mistakes Vader himself could easily make.
Ahh I remember that Star Wars comic at 3:35!! It was the story of one of the Coruscant Senate Guards that later became an Imperial officer (Sagoro Autum I think?) He got kicked out of the Senate Guard during the Clone Wars because his son inadvertently helped Sagoro's brother (a former guard turned traitor) attempt to kill a senator. Years later, Sagoro is an officer in the new Imperial Navy (shown at 3:35) when Vader is introduced. Sagoro's former partner from the Senate Guard (still in blue uniform) comes to warn him that the Emperor is coming for him, so Sagoro goes on the run. *_(Spoiler alert for comic!!)_* Vader himself then executes the partner with his lightsaber, and sends bounty hunters after Sagoro. Eventually, one bounty hunter catches Sagoro, but-- Surprise! _It turns out to be his long-lost son, come to rescue his father!!_ They escape together and reunite with their family. *_(Spoiler ended)_* I always read those Star Wars Tales comics as a kid in the early 2000's, there were _soooo_ many interesting backstories and plots that would take place in between the settings of the movies. Too bad they're no longer considered official canon. But hey, at least they remain as "Legends" because of how legendary they are ;)
Despite how powerful Vader and intimidating he looked, he really was a tantrum throwing person. A giant bully throwing his power around cause he could. He’s just a giant baby.
@Rollingstone For sure. Seeing him in Kenobi, if you take away the cool armor and put some creepy guy in his place doing the same things, it just screams serial killer. Not tactical calm headed leader.
@Rollingstone I wouldn't say he was like that at the beginning. Yeah he was "immature" at that age but hes a kid and in time would have to learn. Its worse when he's Vader cause he's delving into the Dark Side and all the negativity it brings. Sidious is no better but he's a bit smarter then that.
Can we just give Captain Dallini some respect for standing up to Vader and Palpatine? The man didn’t look very afraid and actually tried to stand up for the Jedi who were unjustly persecuted, that is a real man right there.
It’s not brave to openly contradict the most powerful man in the galaxy. It’s pure stupidity. Even if Vader hadn’t been there to kill him he’d be looking at getting arrested for treason.
Sorry My friend but You are blinded by The Jedis lies. Remember The SITH Holocaust commited by The so called "good guys Jedis" . @@zephyr8072 In a time of universal lies, speaking the truth is a revolutionary act. Many people who died for speaking the truth inspired others to stand up and eventually overthrow tyrants. And if you knew your lore, you'd know that a great leader who helped overthrow the Empire witnessed this and was inspired.
Vader: the emperor is not as forgiving as I am Meanwhile he’s just killing officers at random Palpatine: actually I think you’re more harsh than me bro, plz don’t kill my entire army
There has been another novel: Dark Lord - Rise of Darth Vader. 6 Weeks after the Empire has been declared, Darth Vader arrived on Murkhana to execute a Clone Task Force who helped some Jedi (Roan Shryne, Olee Starstone and Bol Chatak) to escape because they hesitated to follow Order 66. From Murkhana Vader hunted the Jedi while following Orders from Palpatine and giving orders to Clone Commanders and working with higher ranked Inperials like Tarkin. There he showed his relentlessness, his brute power and cold effectiveness which heavily impressed and intimidated said Imperials.
I wish they showed more of vader's tactical side. I mean this is the same guy who was a respected general before he was 30 with unprecedented military feats. He really could've solved this matter without killing and choking every single one if the people he doesn't like. It gets old
I prefer Legends. Not simply because it was first but because I enjoyed how it referenced the Palatine's deformed appearance and How he managed to convince the populace that the Jedi attacked him to strengthen his Jedi coup story. I get that Vader killed more people in the Canon version which is pretty cool and all but It seemed pointless to kill 5 random individuals when he could probably feel out the ones responsible in the force, I'm starting to notice a trend with Canon stories where the force seems to be overused and the feats seem to be a little over the top(if Vader can force choke 5 guys at a time wouldn't he have done so in the movies?). The reasoning for trying to kill him seems a little to rushed considering they aren't even sure who he really is or what position he holds. He may have only killed 1 guy in legends but he got his point across. You may prefer whatever version you want but I enjoyed how the legends version referenced more aspects of the star wars Universe such as the fact that the imperials aren't all bad, in fact most were soldiers who fought in the clone wars and are in fact the same republic forces and remember the actions of their Jedi generals(it takes a lot to deny an award at a ceremony that you know you don't deserve). I personally detest the way imperials are portrayed in Canon, feels a tad to black and white for my taste.
Vader *did* do so. He force choked people, deflected blaster shots, and maintained his grip on a door across the hallway in Rogue One. The OT never shows him needing to do stuff like that. They didn't have the tech to show off what Vader really could do.
5:00 What if they had seen this execution as a cover up and all stood up to Vader. They could not kill them all without weekending their command structure. Not much wonder the Empire collapsed in in only 20 years.
Thanks for the video! I liked the canon version as it showed how ruthless and power hungry the imperial command is. And how cunning and merciless Vader was. In the legends version, the imperials seemed like they obeyed Vader’s command soon after that one kill. Where as canon, Vader badassly state that he will survive and they will not. Interesting stuff!
Dope video. Glad you shared this story with us. As a brand new star wars fan, who's only seen the sequels. I am not reading the comics/novels anytime soon 😂 so thanks for letting us hear these stories through you
That also works in the "false flag attack/terrorism" scenario. Some officer's disliked Vader but if those officer's don't attack you, you can't retaliate. In this story they did attack him. But otherwise if they hadn't tried to kill Vader, what Vader can do is plant a bomb, explode it somewhere and then leave a trail where all the evidence points to the offices of the high command to then blame them and take them out.

They all thought that, didn't you saw the following scene? They were all thinking about renouncing once the galaxy was stabilized.
Someone did. Dodonna became a Rebel general and led some very significant victories.
I like how the Emperor told Vader to kill anyone but Tarkin. It explains why the Grand Moff spoke so boldly to Vader; he probably knew how highly regarded he was by Palpatine, and thus that he was safe from Vader's wrath.
And when Leia referred to Tarkin "holding Vader's leash", Vader just took it.
I like the legends version makes the the officer more human.
Legends did have a way of humanizing Imperials. Look at Pellaeon for example, he's practically a protagonist in the Thrawn trilogy.
Yes!
Legends = The *REAL* Star Wars EU.
Han Solo and Leia also had more than one kid, and Chewbacca died
@@stephenking5852 *If* you're implying that as a negative, then in Disney canon Han, Luke, and almost certainly Leia all die.
There's one thing that's really good about the Legends intro -- that whole bit about re-assigning credit for Clone Wars victories from dead Jedi to living Imperials. It explains why there are so many senior officers in the Empire who can't seem to find their own butt with both hands and a GPS unit.

Make them stop!"
I can't believe the empire would allow the harassment of a burned victim
Wow thank you all for the likes
RANDY TYSON Yeah, I much prefer the Legends version. The Disney "cannon" makes Vader look kind of pathetic.
Juan Catalan
You say that but then you see Vader owning everyone but still has a bit of Anakin in him. I like the new canon more
It also makes sense since in canon nobody knew who Vader fucking was
i agree with majora, while i dislike a lot of the changes made to cannon by disney, vaders new backstory seems more real, anakin didnt become a badass out of the blue just because he wore some armor, even in revange of the sith, after he betrayed the jedi, he still had many issues that held him back, so for his rise as simbol of fear in the empire to make sense it should be a process, something like what happened in the original cannon was a bit too simplistic for me.
I kinda feel sad for the Legends officer Vader choked. At least let the man state his case before force choking him Darth.
Incitos Sol
Ooooooh well! That's what happens when your boss is a Sith Lord. 😁

Fr I mean shit.
he didn't let him finish though (at least it sounded like he had more to say). OTOH, even though those that spoke for the Jedi were exe-chocked, at least there were those who were willing to speak up for them. And even though the rest don't want to die, at least they know that the "Jedi" now are strangling Imperial officers rather than helping them.
EMPIRE
They need to make a whole tv show like the mandalorian about darth Vader after order 66. So we can go on his adventures before he died.
Vader: Kills officer in front of palpatine.
Palpatine: "Knock it off you goober"

The coolest part about this imo is that Emperor tells Vader he can kill anyone but Tarkin. Really shows how valuable he was to him
I cant help imagining Palpatine spraying Vader with a squirt bottle like he would a cat when telling him to stop killing imperial officers.
He does, just replay squirt gun with lightning and you would be dead on accurate

For me I like the canon version more because executing 4-5 people would make other imperial officers far more scared than seeing just one be executed
I like the cannon version better, it kind of flows well
Trizzdebos s well actually Legends is better only if you read the entire thing.
Shiladitya Talukder I’m pretty sure George Lucas didn’t write any Legends comics :o

I like how at least one person tried to defend the Jedi knowing most of them would never have done that
My reaction would be: Wait, The Senate has a new friend in a sand-hating cyborg samurai?!

Ahh I remember that Star Wars comic at 3:35!! It was the story of one of the Coruscant Senate Guards that later became an Imperial officer (Sagoro Autum I think?)
He got kicked out of the Senate Guard during the Clone Wars because his son inadvertently helped Sagoro's brother (a former guard turned traitor) attempt to kill a senator.
Years later, Sagoro is an officer in the new Imperial Navy (shown at 3:35) when Vader is introduced. Sagoro's former partner from the Senate Guard (still in blue uniform) comes to warn him that the Emperor is coming for him, so Sagoro goes on the run.
*_(Spoiler alert for comic!!)_*
Vader himself then executes the partner with his lightsaber, and sends bounty hunters after Sagoro. Eventually, one bounty hunter catches Sagoro, but-- Surprise! _It turns out to be his long-lost son, come to rescue his father!!_ They escape together and reunite with their family.
*_(Spoiler ended)_*
I always read those Star Wars Tales comics as a kid in the early 2000's, there were _soooo_ many interesting backstories and plots that would take place in between the settings of the movies. Too bad they're no longer considered official canon. But hey, at least they remain as "Legends" because of how legendary they are ;)
Wait, its from star wars tales? I thought those comics werent canon to the EU, even before Disney.
Despite how powerful Vader and intimidating he looked, he really was a tantrum throwing person. A giant bully throwing his power around cause he could.
He’s just a giant baby.
Cant say i really like that side of him. Even the emperor looks reasonable compared to him as he understands that he needs his officers.
A Vader series with the same serious tone of Andor would be amazing.

I like them both, and in my mind, both events happened to different groups. However, if I can only have one, I’d have to go with the canon version.

Honestly, both of these versions of the introduction are really good and done very well. But I think I prefer the Legends version *slightly* more..

*Ah a man of culture as well*
Vader *did* do so.

Man, the Empire must've had the worst HR department in the history of massive organisations
1:03 i like that pose of Vader 😂
