Your bike hanger with the above shelf is the best. I have bikes for my grand kids when they come over for a visit and I am desperate for a way to store them and still be able to access them quickly and easily. The shelf is like icing on the cake for extra storage for misc. items.

I put my bikes up in the air and hang the bike by the seat on a Rafter.
I learnt it from my local bike shop we're above the service area they keep all their bikes hanging by their seats. A is some suspended metal poles (horizontal of course).
    Good content thanks mate

The second stand option is great. I like that stand, I might invest in that. As of now I remove the front tyre and keep it near in my room, it can stand upright on its own nicely.

For any compact storage I need to recommend that you get that foam insulation tubes/pool noodle things and cut, fold, tape or whatever in a way that you can slide them onto your pedals to stop them scratching other bikes. I've scratched the entire pedal area on my bikes quite a bit from the bikes next to it for not covering up the pedals and I still have yet to do it. I'm getting a new frame this weekend so I'll be sure to do it then.

    • @meljane8339
      @meljane8339 ปีที่แล้ว

Pool noodles don't withstand the elements very long. (My automobile-bike rack from the year 2000 is a good example, the external "skin" wears down and then the plastic interior starts coming apart). But, pool noodles do work temporarily, like a few years. ...if you are doing storage you anticipate more than maybe two years(but it will end up being 5+), Especially outdoors, You will need RV weatherstripping(with the moldable plastic that has metal threads inside, or ya kno, cardboard, for the gears) or other insulation...

i use the 3rd method for my bike storage, except for i have it at the height where my back wheel is resting on the ground. Really great way of moving bikes out of the way and looks sick with multiple bikes. However, each time i ride my bike after storing it, there is a lot of top out in the front fork and i have to compress the fork about 10 times to get rid of it. Not sure if it’s the oil all in the top of the fork because of the angle the bike is sitting, but i’m not a mechanic so i don’t know for sure

  • @kirktrethewey3147

The wrench at the bike shop we go to recommended not storing suspension bikes on the wall or upside down as it could create an issue with the shock seals due to the fluid resting on the seals, have you heard this? He recommended storing suspension bikes on the floor or hang by the seat and handlebars so the bike remains upright.

Josh - you've completely missed the best system out there, the Saris Cycle Glide. Not a surprise; I just stumbled on it a few years ago, but man, is it perfect! I'm in Bellingham (Geneva area) and would be happy to let you come see how it works. 6 bikes (at the moment), completely up and out of the way. They collapse into a nice smaller area, but each bike is very easily accessible whenever I want to get one of them.

Seems to work, no wheel issues or worrying about the kids nocking them over, my wife requested not bc it was difficult to get down if I wasn't there. Purchased one of the pully versions but the hooks supplied were far too flimsy so I was concerned the seat might slip off & bike fall onto the car. So I modified mine by purchasing & using two inexpensive nylon dog collars. One fits over the seat & the other has a chain & snaphook to fit under/around the headstock. This can also then be used for bike maintenance by raising or lowering the bike to different heights. Works well. I also have a hook on the wall to store the spare pull rope stache.

I have 5 kids, so we have 7 bikes in the garage. I have a really hard time figuring out a good bike storage solution to get them off the floor and out of the way. As you can imagine, they take up a lot of valuable floor space. They're all under 10 y/o, so It has to be something they can do on their own without needing help from an adult, both taking off and putting back. The only viable solution I can think of is one of those bike racks outside of stores and public buildings, but that still requires dedicated floor space.

Might have to get the 2nd one for washing, my seth's bike hacks stands covers too much of the wheel so it's a pain to get all the mud off.
However none of those stands are secure.
We seem to have a really big issue with bike theft in the UK right now esp from shops with about 1 a week being broken into and cleared! Orange last week.
I see chains and floor bolts and stuff but I had an idea, I want to store my bike nose up to also keep the fork sponges lubed.
It's a bit more of a faff than just hook up but what i'm thinking is a block you bolt to your wall with a 15mm hole through the center thats the same width as the front hub.
Remove your front wheel and offer the bike up then push though a strengthened rod with a mushroom at one end and lock hole at the other.
Put on a lock of your choice and shes secure to the wall.
They could remove the topcap and stem and remove the rest but it's better than nothing and also stores the bike in place.
Closer to the wall too as there's no front wheel.
no need to lift as you'd mount it with the rear wheel on the floor.
a really secure manufactured version of this could probably have a key slot at one end that has tumblers to lock in the block it's self, no external lock.

My option is a 3M long rectangular tube that is slung at either end from my garage roof joist (or ceiling) and the bike seat hooks over the rectangular tube. The bikes just hang. I have 4 road and 2 MTBs hanging. I have all the usual storage boxes on castors and the lawn mower on the floor. Access is easy just hold the bike by the fork and Seat Tube, lift and unhook and visa versa.

I’m wondering if a 6yr old would even be heavy enough to use the front suspension on the riprock or if the trek’s rigid fork would be best for his age and the overall weight of the bike!?? Can anyone help with which shelf unit is used in the video? I don’t see it in the Amazon list provided. Thanks!

I hope you kept the mustache! Your hair is such a pretty copper color, & it perfectly mimics your eyebrows & forehead swoosh. Thanks for the good advice on the bikes, too!

I’ve heard that mountain bikes should not be stored in such a way that the oils in the shocks sits against the seals. Is that true?

Where did you post links for these products? I couldn't find the product name or brand for the pulley bike system or the previous one with storage shelf with 3 bike hooks underneath.

What's the max weight can those ceiling pulley bike thingies carry? Are the ropes sturdy enough for long time use?
