X-Plane 11 - From Cold and Dark to Takeoff - Complete Tutorial - X-Craft E195

- The latest in my series of Cold and Dark tutorials. Today we'll teach off to get the X-Craft E-195 (and E-175) from cold and dark to ready to fly and take her up over Canada.
Something went a bit wonky with the microphone at the end of the video so there will be some crackling when I talk. Don't know what that was all about and the damn autopilot still gets me every time! Enjoy!
NOTE: Many of the soundFX you will hear won't sound the same on your stock X-Craft E195. I have done audio work on my E195, using real sounds from a real E195 cockpit such as the avionics sounds and fire alarm bells.

I have the ERJ family and the FMC takes a bit of getting used to but it's not too bad though once you get the hang of it. The hardest part for me was understanding how to put in airways
You shall turn on the APU before start the engines and turn on NAV lights at first, those steps are normally in every single aircraft, APU and beacon light is the last thing you should turn on

Yeah they should! Actually, after I started poking around under the hood I was contacted by one of the devs and another person to collab with them on making a fully blown FMOD Sound pack the E175/E195, similiar to BSS's back for the A320. We're already done a lot of work and it already is starting to sound like a real E175/E195 now.
Great tutorial! I have a question, do you always have to put in your arrival information? Is it fine to just add airport destination and not star and runway. I fly on VATSIM alot and alot of times they change config based on weather.

Welcome to the world of airliners. I have NEVER been a GA flyer. It has never interested me. My first ever aircraft I learned like the back of my hand was the PMDG 737-800 on FSX and I've been hooked on heavy iron ever since. As I continue to learn X-Plane you are going to start seeing me flying the 747, 767, 737 and A330 as well as the MD-83 Pro. I haven't picked up the SSG 170 but I can already tell its a better aircraft because more of the systems are simulated and it uses the newer cockpit layout. It looks like all the nobs in the over head actually work and I think they even simulated the 3 and half minute boot up testing cycle. I'm going to pick it up this Friday and start learning it. If it ends up being better I'll probably switch to it for all my E170 needs and continue to use the X-Craft for E195 flights.

Wipers - you want the switches off because if they're on, when you power up, the wipre dry windows and bugger up the coating on the glass!

Hey, thanks for this video. I'm walking through my cold and dark, and following along. Just bought this version thing with the latest 2.2 version. Question, i notice you get the seatbelt/no smoking ding when you flip those switches. I don't have those sounds (no audio sound at all) when i move those switches. I see this video was recorded before 2.2, and probably before they switched to fmod? Wondering if you upgraded to 2.2 and also do not have those sounds anymore? I looked at the guids file in their fmod directory and don't see anything specifically mapped to those switches. Anyway, just curious. Thanks!
I am Beta testing 2.3 right now... mmmmmm.... you know I didn't notice the sound being removed. I'll take a listen again and ask where it went if its still gone in 2.3

Why did you have to activate de "Flight Level Change" just after take-off, it shouldn't climb according to FMC programming?

Over 310 knots the plane can't stay at cruising altitude, NAV mode orange, following route: no chance. What should I do?
NAV lights should go on when the aircraft has power and the red beacon goes on when the aircraft is about to go live, aka engine start or push to alert all ground crew around that the aircraft is live and to keep clear
what is the voice-controlled ATC voice plug-in?
What is the atc plugin that you use to talk to atc? Is it a setting in Xplane stock atc
It is Pilot2ATC, a payware full feature voice recognized ATC suite that works on FSX/P3D and X-Plane 11. Free 10 day trial at their website. The voices are various voice packs i have purchased.

In real life the aircraft will not do any self test unless you have full power to the aircraft (APU or GPU). One of the first test that it does is a flight control test. The only thing you need to do while that test commences is to *NOT TOUCH THE FLIGHT CONTROLLERS* that takes only about 2-4 minutes. The IRS alignment takes about 6-10 minutes (depending on aircraft location).

You are wrong in this part the APU will NOT move to 5-10 percent just by setting it to on (It only moves when you start it).

MultiCrew Experience (MCE) I believe works with X-plane. It is the ONLY virtual co-pilot package that I know of that will do checklist readbacks.

Yes. They are identical aircraft, just one is a stretch limo and the other s sub-compact. :)

idk what u did that i didnt but the plane's autopilot just never wanted to work for me. It decided to go backwards on the route for some reason. and it went space shuttle status for some reason

I bought the xcrafts-175-v2 Embraer E-175 v2.4, I think is very good but this has a big problem, after a minutes of flying when you are climbing, the cabin turns black, you can hear the sounds but the vison of the cabin turn slowly black and you can´t see nothing! If you change to the another view, for example spot view you can see the plane, return with key W, and you can see the cabin again, but in a few seconds after turns black again. Can you help me how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance.
You are passing out from Hypoxia, a lack of oxygen to your brain. You are experiencing this because you didn't fully program your FMC. The aircraft needs to know what your Initial Cruise and final Cruise altitudes are in the PERF page so it can set the PAX Pressurization system to the proper altitude. If you fail to set this the aircraft thinks it is on the ground and won't bother equalizing the pressure in the aircraft so eventually you and all your of virtual passengers will pass out and die from lack of oxygen.

hahaha. Well you can't really rotate the entire map or if you can I haven't discovered how. You are always stuck in a NORTH is up view.
I am about to give up on this project. I was about 90% done with this airport, I had to make some taxi lines adjustments and all of a sudden my lines come out way off on XP-11 when in WED they appear perfectly lined up (I check all my lines with max zoom). Prior to this, I had no issued with any taxi lines. I don't know what happened but I am frustrated. Please help if possible, thank you.
Is this an airport you are converting from FSX/P3D or one you are updating from the Gateway? Taxilines generally should be where you put them in WED unless this is a very large ariport then they might be off. Are you using an Ortho satellite map to help you align everything? Have you delete your previous DSF file and rebuilt the entire scenery package by using the EXPORT SCENERY PACKAGE function? Remember to remove the previous DSF file that was created before doing this.
It is a XP-11 stock airport that I'm upgrading and customizing. I had been working on this airport for a week with no issues. i guarantee you I inadvertently hit a key that has caused this issue. I even move a taxi line to one side of the center line and it will show up on the opposite side in the simulator. In Overlay editor, If I load the airport and pan around the lines (all the lines I'm having issues with are curved intersection taxi lines) the view point will actually shift the line from one side of the center line to the other. It's crazy weird.
Okay so, I found a remedy but I was trying to reduce the number of nodes, and this remedy just adds more. I noticed that the start of the lines were fine but the ends were off, so what I did was create a node on the main center taxi line to snap the curve line to and that fixed the problem. I guess snapping line nodes is mandatory? I made some that came out fine with no node to node ends before but oh well at least I can continue my project; I hope it get approved for upload.

Normally airports have a 4 symbol identification, for example, Miami Intl is KMIA, Buenos Aires Ezeiza Intl is SAEZ, Dubai Intl is OMDB. That’s an ICAO for airport identification. Airways are rare for me tho, you can have an airway called J525, or VR1225 or IR211. I think airways are classified in many ways that it exhausting to learn them. And normal waypoints/fixes are named by 5 symbols together, like VANAR, KARVR, HEDLY, etc.
Fun fact I know from a friend is, somewhere near Washington, when you are approaching the airport, fixes are named “WEEEE” “WLLLL” “NEVVR” “FORGT” “SEPII”
How do u do 190 pushback on menu or is it not available yet
Hey, maybe you know whats up with my E175. I try to submit any waypoint in the MDCU and it says "Navid not found" I also, when I get to the Perf 2 page, I try to put in my cruise airspeed and it simply does not let me. It doesn't say anything it just wont let me, something is going on.
Are you using any kind of Navigraph/NavDataPRO subscription? Is your AIRAC up to date? Does it show the latest AIRAC in the status page on the FMC? Are you choosing the right type of waypoint when inputting it (VOR/Fix/NDB)? The speed one I am not sure of. It should let you put something in there. 280 or .74 is a good starting value.
I got the speed issue fixed, but where does it say in the status page the airac information? I don't see any airac info in the status page.
I'm type rated in the 170 through 195 series EJets. I fly the E 175 though for a regional. You did a great job going through the system power ups. I saw a few errors, but for sim purposes you seem to know your stuff. Have you considered getting some flight hours and working for the airlines? I started out in the sim community and worked my way up in about 4 years.

Well the X-Craft comes with its own ground power system and ground equipment. It's in the side panel menu when you move the mouse to the left side of the screen. I also use JARDesign Ground Handling Deluxe and BetterPusbBack as well.

I didn't do anything special. I just installed the .set pack off of JARDesign's website and wallah.
Im running the new e195 v2.3, dont know if that matters. Also theres 2 versions of the set does it matter which one you use? And did you put it in custom or default folder? Cheers
I haven't installed the 2.3 yet. It should be the Custom folder. Probably just two different authors having different ideas about what should go around an E195.

Catering, Fuel and loading are by JARDesign's from their payware Jardesign Ground Handling plugin and the pushback is from BetterPushback freeware plugin.
It says "route not loaded" in the MCDU...(just kidding I needed one more waypoint.)

IXEG 737-300 without question. Most complete. Most systems simulation. Great sound out of the box. Fully functioning FMC system. Handles like a dream. Great 3D model and VC.

I might just do that. I am trying to learn a few more things about this plane and where it gets its sounds from. I already created some extra sound that are missing such as the chime that goes off anytime the Yellow Caution light goes on but I can't see to find out how to attach that sound to the logic that triggers the caution light. Even setting the sound in the plane maker has failed to yield the sound. The plane out of the box is definitely sound deficient and relies to much on default sound assets from X-Plane.
Okay, thanks for the info. X-Crafts does need to develop better sounds or get some help from BlueSkyStar. I just bought the plane. One more thing, is the plane hard on frames? My computer is a little bit slower than most.

Yeah, the stock sounds are pretty.... not..... good. Now keep in mind some of the sounds are coming off of XPrealisticPRO. The thumps and bumps when taxiing, the wind rush and the flap lever clicking sounds are all XPRealisticPRO which I *HIGHLY* recommend for X-Plane. Its an awesome program. The sounds I fixed are the Alarm Fire Test Bell, The Avionics spool up and airconditioning bay hummmmm and I tweaked the engine start up sounds to be louder. I also created the CAUTION sound but can't seem to get it to play when the yellow light comes on, even with assigning my sound to failures in the aircrafts ACF file in Planemaker! Let me do some more sound work and I'll probably release the pack on X-Plane.org. I want to add a whole new engine start up sound and record the REAL E-195 external engine sounds.
You should take the XPR sounds and just put them in the aircraft as their default sounds.

When I click NAV Mode it turns yellow not green, someone please help me out.
Is your navigation source FMS? When a button turns yellow it means it is armed but not active. The Nav button is the LNAV button of large aircraft. You need to be near or on the magenta navigation path and your navigation source needs to be FMS.

A custom was already made by the community. Just snag it off the Org. I can't remember if there was a default one for the e195 but I do know there is one created by the community.

When I fly offline I am always using Pilot2ATC. Google it. 10 day free trial is included in the demo, uncrippled. My voice packs are from Cereproc Voices.

Is your FMC fully programmed? Did you choose a navigation mode on the AP Panel (FMS/Headings Select/etc)? The flight director won't turn on if the data it needs is incomplete.
yes ive been on this plane 8 hours solid but i watch many on you tube and you all do it different which is so confuseing when learning to fly this plane i still not sure of it and its not easy to fly i have yet to land it ...

Wait a little while longer. I and a few of the developers have gotten together to produce a full FMOD upgrade for the aircraft. Its going to add a whole new dimension to the aircraft I think.
how did you get the GPU to be available?
The Pop out menu on the left. Select ground equipment menu and attach the GPU.

When you move your mouse to the extreme left of your screen, a little menu should slide out. This is the same menu you use to hook up the push-back tug supplied with the aircraft. You will find the GPU connector in that menu.
my problem was the X Plane 11 window not being on the main monitor. When I switch it to my monitor it popped up like you said. Thanks for the help!

Captain K-Man merci. Which embraer is good ssg or xcraft?
Both but I lean towards the SSG because the autopilot system behaves more like a real plane and the systems simulation is slightly better. However, X-Craft 2.3 is good too because of the FMOD Soundpack and I like the fact that the cockpit in Cold and Dark is much more interactive. Almost ALL The switches are already in the on position in the SSG which is typical of the real world BUT I like flipping switches and turning knobs which X-Craft does. In the end though.. the SSG wins. Both aircraft are good frame rates but X-Craft is slightly better because their FMC system isn't as CPU intense as SSG's.

Not so much a tutorial as a 'How I stumble through getting the Embraer in to the air.'
Fmc seems overly complicated and unrealistic based on real life videos and my Wilco E-jets. Everything else seems like nice add on.
the Red bacon being swiched on when APU is swiched on is wrong totally wrong because it is not even ready for pushback the red bacon tells the ground crews to stay clear clrearly it is not ready to finish loding so that is the wrong information. idk how you do things in the US or Canada but thats not how sop's work here
