X-Plane 11 - From Cold and Dark to Takeoff - Complete Tutorial - JARDesign A320

- I wasn't happy with my previous posting of this tutorial so I re-did it all from scratch today and present to you version 2.0 of this tutorial!
Carrying on with my Cold and Dark Tutorial series, today we're going to learn JARDesign's A320! Hopefully you find this useful! Let's get to it!

lol! Yeah... that was not a text book takeoff. I should have rejected the takeoff when I heard the Honeywell computer say I only had 1500 feet left and I was still not even to 120 knots. I didn't do the math on the runway properly since I was in tutorial mode and not fully loaded flight mode in my brain. heheeheh.

I've set flex temp on a few occasions and then had to hit toga when I see those piano keys coming up. That was great, but I don't share your views on the A320. Flown dozens of times with Easyjet in the UK and never had a bad flight. Very informative tutorial..... Well done.

I am not a pilot but I am very much engaged with the community and know a few real world pilots that work for Southwest and Envoy Air. All my A320 training came from watching the Baltic Aviation School courses on the A320 so I just translated that into a good simulator based tutorial. The JARDesign A320 is pretty detailed and thus most of what I taught here is compliant with the real A320. The FlightFactor A320U is a high complexity version of this aircraft but this tutorial still valid for that aircraft simulation.

What PLUGINS are you in use in X-Plane, and how do configure weight & balance
I wanted to know to, but he doesn’t respond.
The fuel, weight and balance can be configured via the tab on the left side of the screen. Click it and it will expand outwards.
No matter how bad that takeoff was, you just saved me 5 hours of time and I thank you for that!
*salute* I did what I could! I am surprised people are still using the JARDesign after the ToLiS and FFA320U came out.

I am 100% on your side with the Airbus hate. I dislike flying on this plane in real life myself, but since i fly on united I have no choice. The only reason I want to learn it on here is so I can fly to more airports with challenging approaches overseas with my friends on VATSIM
Can you turn on the lights and displays with only battery power (irl)?
i can never adjust alt nor speed on ff a 320 i see up and down arrows only. is there a sweet spot as u say to change cursor and settings on ff?

Do you know how to update the nav data? For some reason I cannot get actual SIDs for KDCA...it literally makes it impossible to make a flight plan and is frustrating, especially considering how expensive the plane is.
sir on the FMA after takeoff the NAV mode is still blue and the RNW TRK is green...so the aircaft is not following the flight plan....ive tried pushing the heading selector but when i do so the HDG is showing green not the NAV.....Please help

Hey there! Great tutorial thanks! One question: what flight planner do you use to generate your route (especially SIDs and STARS)?
I use Simbrief.com, linked to my Navigraph subscription so it uses the latest AIRAC cycles.
Whenever i do a waypoint, it's unable to do it. Also, I can't get rid of discontinuity, even if i try to clear it, it wont.
As a pilot that has flown as a passenger on a Aloha 737-200 and a Airbus A320 I can say for me the Airbus of the 2 was a lot smoother and quieter. Your mileage may vary.
Did you take off with the APU on? There isn't any TOGA?
How do you get the things on the side like the fuel truck and all?

I have a question, I am trying to find the information about my top of the scent as far as nautical miles from top of the scent I'm pushing the progress button mid-flight while I'm headed to my location but I'm not getting any top of the descent information?
Man.. I haven't flown this plane in a long time. I don't remember doing anything special. I just put in my flight plan and it auto calcs the TOD.

I apologize for all the questions the other interesting question I cannot figure out is how do you get the ILS tones sound once you're established on a localizer I do not hear any of the customary beep beep beep tones? I have the radio turned on I have the green light on an ILS on yet I do not hear any of the tones in this plane. Thank you in advance
I sadly don't have a suggestion. I did nothing special. It all just worked out of the box. Keep in mind I have the BlueSkyStar payware soundpack which may have additional SoundFX you do not have if you are using default sounds. The outer marker tone and stuff should play provider the airport has these beacons at it.

I set up one of the buttons on my throttle to trigger the reversers. You have to set up a joystick button in the keyboard commands.

Dang I wish I could update my navdata to actually fly this plane. Don't feel like buying a subscription that I'll only use once.
Do you know why my airac cycle is on like a 1404 from September 2014 on the Jar? It bought the aircraft way past 2014, so I expect to be in the 1600s.
Because that was the one they were allowed to have for free. AIRAC's aren't free. They require a lot of work to update. If you don't want a subscription you can purchase update tokens from Navigraph I believe. You can choose when to update a certain number of times you purchase. If you are flying online with Vatsim or IVAO you will want a sub because they rely on update to date charts to guide you. If your AIRAC is way out of whack you won't be able to navigate online properly and then you'll get a controller yelling in your ear that you are off course.
I have the flight factor A320 and my INIT page doesn’t look like that. And I can’t load fuel and payload like that either.

I follow your tutorial but no buttons light up. There is sound but no visual indication that smth is on or off.
That sounds like a bug to me. My tutorial is as precise as I could make it. If your aircraft is installed correctly you should light up the second you push the GPU power button.

Pilot2ATC is what I use for ATC. This allows me to talk to the AI Controllers realistically.

You need access to an AIRAC data provider. The two big ones are Navigraph and Aerosoft Navdata PRO. Once you have a new cycle package from either of these you would plug it in to the custom data folder in the A320 aircraft folder per the instructions in the JARDesign manual.

I personally prefer Navigraph. I subscribe to their monthly service which gives me access to unlimited AIRAC cycles and access to the CHARTS App which let's me load up-to-date full color SID/STAR/AIRPORT information plates. Navigraph is used by 99% of all aircraft and utility apps in X-Plane.
How did you open the fuel truck and load sheet?
There is a popout menu on the left side of the screen. Everything is there for this aircraft.

I use Pilot2ATC for all my ATC needs. Best available offline ATC solution in my opinion.
how do i add liveries to the a320?
In the A320's install directory there is a subfolder labelled LIVERIES. If the livery package you want to install was done right you usually just open the ZIP file and drag the livery folder inside the ZIP file to the Liveries folder. Next time you start X-Plane the new livery should be in the drop down menu.
Do you use default sounds or is it a soundpack?
That is the Bluesky Star sound pack, payware.

I have a subscription to Navigraph. I used the FMS Data Manager to install the data automatically as it is updated to the latest cycle. You can also manually add the data by downloading it from Navigraph for the JARDesign Axx series of aircraft and just unpack the contents into the A320's install folder in the NavData sub folder. Either way, AIRAC cycles are not free.

I don't own a 777 unfortunately. I was considering the one that is out there from SSG but I keep getting told its old and not worth the cost. I also lack scenery for the Middle East.

Sure thing. I wish it was better simulated but at least the buttons all work when pressed. And you can use both Comm 1 and Comm 2 at the same time. I do it all the time to tune the ATIS on the Comm 2 and turn it on so I can hear it when I get close to my destination airport.

The A320 Jardesign is not following the altitudes programmed into the MCDU. Apparently the route I have programmed into the MCDU is now being followed but not the altitude. Any suggestions?
Another question: I am getting the following message in the before take off checklist. Ecam Memo it is not okay. It is not no blue. What does this mean? How can I fix this?
Are you trying to use VNAV for your climb? If so, are the altitudes achievable by the computer per waypoint up to your TOC? I rarely use VNAV myself. I like turning nobs so I am usually in Lvl Change mode and adjusting my altitude as ATC gives me instructions. Check your ECAM monitor. There should be a blue message on it telling you what is wrong. I get this warning from the FO when landing because he's waiting for you to be configured properly for the landing. For takeoffs, I don't have trouble with him. Watch WHEN I call on the FO while on the ground. If you try to do something out of sequence or before its time he will give you that error message. I haven't flown the A320 in weeks. Waiting for the FF A320 which looks superior.

you are supposed to shutdown apu after engine starts.
Once the main generators are supplying power the APU is no longer required and is just burning extra fuel. It probably differs by airline but I shut mine off after engine start and complete and the generators are now supply power and airduct pressure for the PAX system.
Is the a330 the same start up?
Don't know. I do not have that aircraft. If its in the same Airbus family, in theory, yes.

Hi Captain K-Man, I just got the X Plane 11 Pack, but there is no Airbus Model, like you have, in it. Where did you get your Airbus A320 Model Version? Would assume, that there are different versions out there, but your Airbus Version is "in my taste". Thanks for your reply, Ingo
JARDesign A320 NEO. It is payware and available on the X-Plane.org Store. My sounds are payware also and also available on the store for purchase.
APU should have gone off before takeoff lineup (or prob before taxi).
Most likely. It's kind of the way we do it in the 737. After the both engines are on, establish PAX Air, switch off APU Bleed then power down the APU and finish up before taxi checklists. I need a lot more practice in the Airbus.
