That thing you rode to the plane in Montreal is called a mobile lounge, and yup, Dulles has been famous for having them! The mobile lounge was an innovative feature of the Dulles terminal design by Eero Saarinen. Besides Dulles, Eero Saarinen also designed JFK's iconic TWA Flight Center and St Louis's Gateway Arch (fun fact the Arch's elevator is unique, an elevator tram that's a combination of elevator and Ferris Wheel principles that a guy named Dick Bowser had only two weeks to design and present to Saarinen; the cars rotate which allow the cars to remain level the entire way to the top and each tram carry 40 passengers with eight capsules)! Dulles's mobile lounges each weigh 76 tons with a maximum cruising speed of 26 mph and can carry to and from the terminal building up to 90 people. Their purpose was to radically restructure the idea of airports. By the early 1960s, airports had transformed to ramifying systems of hallways. As planes grew larger, they needed more space as they lined up next to each other along the airport building. And as flying grew more popular, airports needed to have more and more gates. The result was that terminal buildings sprouted long protrusions called fingers. Hundreds of feet long, they accommodated jets very comfortably. The finger-style airport was a purgatory of walking because airports went from being able to walk straight from the entrance of a simple terminal onto your plane, now you were reduced to wandering through a structure built for giants. So when Dulles opened in 1962, it did not have fingers. Instead, after passengers checked in on one side of the terminal building, they crossed to a row of doors that opened onto a fleet of mobile lounges. While the aircraft, some one or two miles off on the tarmac, were prepared, flyers relaxed in swank waiting areas, enjoying cocktails from nearby stands. Dulles's designers thought that by shuttling from the main terminal directly to a midfield jet ramp, they could save passengers from long walking distances amidst weather, noise, and fumes on the ramp. The advent of the jet bridge and construction of the two midfield concourse buildings at this airport negated the benefits of the system. As passenger numbers at Dulles grew, they realized it was impractical to use mobile lounges. Remote concourses were constructed, and the fleet of mobile lounges was used as a shuttle between the concourses and the main terminal. In 2010, the Dulles mobile lounge system for passenger movements between the Main Terminal and the A-, B-, and C-Gates was replaced with the underground AeroTrain, while mobile lounges have continued to be used to reach Concourse D before replacement Concourses C and D are built and the AeroTrain is expanded to become a continuous two-way loop. Besides Dulles and Montreal, mobile lounges have also been used at Philadelphia International, Benito Juárez International Airport in Mexico City until 2007, JFK International, the infamous Mirabel International until passenger services ceased in 2004, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and King Abdulaziz International Airport in Saudi Arabia. Early in the space shuttle program, NASA used the Plane Mate system of mobile lounge to move astronauts directly from the orbiter to crew facilities. A modified vehicle obtained from BWI in Baltimore was used for shuttle landings at California's Edwards Air Force Base. A similar vehicle was used at the Kennedy Space Center to take astronauts directly from the orbiter to the Operations and Checkout building.
Yeah you'd never see Pork on an airline that is from a Muslim majority country. I would assume the food is all technically Halal, despite the poor quality.
I frequently fly Air Algerie, mainly between London and Algiers. I think their main issue is business class service as I found the service in economy class to be perfectly fine. They have a meal service despite the short length of a flight and they even come around serving tea and coffee! However, their planes have seen better days and they are a tad bit filthy however the airline have ordered A350-1000's and A330-900's and I hope their service and cabin maintenance improves with the arrival of these new jets!

I do love your restraint on not slating them. I do like watching your videos as unlike quite a few other aviation TH-camrs, no names mentioned. CoughSamChuiCough. You actually pay your way to fly and will give an honest review. Keep them coming 👍
I'm an FA for a very large airline in Canada. You are not sitting in an emergency exit row. No idea why thr card was there however that's a main cabin door (L1) and there is the pursers jumpseat next to it. You would not be receiving a briefing.
Crew members that serve the passengers are the reason why aviation is the safest mode of transport. If they aren't there, eventually there will be situations where some passenger is standing when the plane hits the ground, possibly in the lavatory etc. That can really kill someone, so it's not a minor violation of safety. Especially concerning when it's dark outside and people don't know when the plane will hit the ground. I've seen videos where there were people sleeping on the economy row without seatbelts on, no crew, and the plane just started to land. I think we need to speak up against these kinds of practices. Poor customer service on the other hand is something that won't physically harm anyone.
> Poor customer service on the other hand is something that won't physically harm anyone. Unless it means you can't get a drink. Staying hydrated is more important on an aeroplane because you don't really notice how quickly you dry out.
"Poor customer service on the other hand is something that won't physically harm anyone" Is that an excuse? Besides being a common courtesy, good service will bring in business.
If your flight crew doesn't brief the people in the emergency exits, nor do they check people's seatbelts nor do they take trash away, you're only one bad turbulence or emergency landing away from actual physical harm.
over $2000 to be treated like that? yeah I'd be suing for a refund. That level of service is not acceptable, when you pay a premium for business/first class.
I don’t think they’re trying hard at all. From the video, it appears safety is an afterthought. How does an airline allow their planes to be that disgusting? It appears it’s just rude people, with no pride in what they do.
I live in algeria and flew with them a couple of times and to be honest the experience is different from flight to flight sometimes it's clean and the crew is nice and other times they are horrible and they make you board the plane then stay in it for an hour with the a/c off before takeoff !
Hi Noel, In Canada, passengers are randomly selected for a primary bag inspection before the x-ray (usually they just swab your belongings and test it for illegal substances). What happened there is that you were one of the “randomly” selected passengers for that inspection. During the x-ray part of the process your bag may be selected again for inspection due to something that was observed through the x-ray (I don’t know if that was the case as you don’t show that part of the process in your video).
I'm Algerian living outside of the country, I take Air Algerie a lot to go back home, from my experience it really depends on the destination and your luck, for some reason all of my flights from Paris have always been newer cleaner planes, and nicer crew but the food isn't usually the best honestly. I took a flight from Vienna once and it was nice on the going flight but the return flight was bad, old plane and crew wasn't that nice, all domestic flights are crap, lets say it as it is. Another thing is that those A330's that go to Canada will soon be changed to the new A330 neo I believe, and there are other A330's that are newer and cleaner, the one you flew on is from 2004 I believe, they're expected to be out of service by the end of this year or something, I don't remember the details but an employee at Air Algerie told me that once. In general it's not the worst airline, I've had bad experiences even with European airlines before, but it's not up there, it depends on your luck, what you got was the worst of the worst, but definitely their best isn't anything amazing but still better than this, I personally like to fly with them since outside summer holidays (which is when I usually visit) flights are cheap and they offer 23kg of luggage in the basic ticket, I can fly for as low as 190 euros return from Paris with luggage, to me it's worth it, as Air France would cost double with luggage, and from my experience you don't get much better, the planes are in the same shape and crew is usually at the same level, for that particular flight atleast.
Even if the crew are having a bad day, there is no excuse for poor customer service. Not only was the service poor, the safety breeches alone should be shouted out for everyone to know. I get your not the type of person to pull them apart but you should be putting in a full complaint about the experience of your flight
As an experienced aircraft mechanic, I can tell you that getting onto an airplane with indications that nobody really cares is paramount to playing Russian roulette. You are at the mercy of numerous people who literally have your life in their hands. When something happens to that aircraft due to somebody not doing their job, there is NOTHING you can do, but ride it to the ground. A passenger boarding the Hawaiian jet that lost it's top in flight, noticed several rivets missing before she boarded, but got on anyway. Go figure!
Question, every time a plane lands does it need or have to get inspected before it takes off, and can it get reloaded and take off without any sort of checks?
Experienced aircraft mechanic? What does that have to do with knowing the responsibility of an airline crew, you could have just as easily said I'm a store owner lol. I don't think your life is at the hands of some cabin crew members, the pilotes are the real important people for your safety, and you'll not be acquainted with them anyways, if you know to put your seat belt on and not wait for some flight attendent to baby sit you into doing it, then that's pretty much everything they would have "to do" for your safety.
@@gherbihicham8506 Young feller; I've worked for numerous companies throughout my life, and discovered that attitude is everything. More then that, attitude (especially bad attitude) is more contagious than Covid 19. If employees are not being treated well they get a bad attitude, and that attitude spreads through the staff from one end to the other. So in other words, if the captain, the flight crew, the ground crew, have a bad attitude, you can bet that the mechanics do as well. And like I said, the mechanics have your life in their hands.

I’m pretty sure what happened at Montreal Airport security is that you went into the Business Class/Visa Infinite Privilege line and instead of letting you go straight to security, the CATSA employee decided to randomly select you for an additional check. The same thing can happen in the other section (Economy) but because of the higher passenger volumes, it’s obvious it’s a “random selection”. A pre-check before security is not standard for every passenger at Canadian airports.
Oh wow the memories. I worked the desk for Air Algérie in Montréal when I was a student. The airline was infamous among airport workers for still using Mainframe terminals for their booking system (as a Comp sci student, and tech history fan, it appealed to me 😅) Anyway: almost every passenger would ask me if we had the shitty plane with no onboard entertainment, or the "nice" one that day. For people wondering... That was around 2015.
Omg I've never felt so ashamed of being Algerian...we have some nice things but Air Algerie (Air CousCous) is not one of em. Sorry for your experience though!
Another entertaining video Noel. I love your humour and you are very fair, maybe too fair in this instance. If you were ignored most of that flight in business class, I wonder how they treated the people in economy. Also, very expensive for all that you should get and don't get. The food looked lacklustre, some airlines serve much better food then that in economy. Already looking forward to your next video!

In regards to your seat being an exit "row" This only applies to seats sat directly next to the door on your left/right hand side, overwing exits for example. The seat you are is what is classed as a restrictive seat therefore in an emergency you may be called upon to open the main exit on the other side of the bulkhead, but that would only be explained and discussed with you at the time of the emergency. Appears this airline places the card just to give you a heads up that it is an expectation of you in an emergency, but your not required to be spoken about this by the crew before departure as it only becomes an "exit seat" shall we say when a potential emergency occurs. Hope that helps!
im pretty sure, after this video gonna go viral, both canada and EU gonna block them from coming into our airspace until they sort their safety standards out. absolutely disgraceful
Noel, last year for my 50th birthday I went to the US firstly Seattle but travelling from Dublin to Seattle was 400 euro more direct than Dublin to Calgary and then Calgary to Seattle and because we had a connection (my hubby and my niece) to Canada we had to get a Canadian visa even though for only a few minutes and I only discovered this the night before our flight but managed to get it and a few stressful flights later we arrived in Seattle so I'm not surprised you needed a visa in Algeria for just a connection, this is such a pain

Hi Noel,
In Canada, passengers are randomly selected for a primary bag inspection before the x-ray (usually they just swab your belongings and test it for illegal substances). What happened there is that you were one of the “randomly” selected passengers for that inspection. During the x-ray part of the process your bag may be selected again for inspection due to something that was observed through the x-ray (I don’t know if that was the case as you don’t show that part of the process in your video).
Why?
I got a randomly bag inspection in Singapore too

Man, you were like Casper the Ghost on that airplane and, there was not a soul in that airport. 😂😂😂

So in other words, if the captain, the flight crew, the ground crew, have a bad attitude, you can bet that the mechanics do as well. And like I said, the mechanics have your life in their hands.

The same thing can happen in the other section (Economy) but because of the higher passenger volumes, it’s obvious it’s a “random selection”. No they won't and the airline knows it. That's why they feel comfortable sending that plane to Canada.
@@ReinSouls thats why they DONT fly to UK.. they wouldnt get away with it
Doubt it. Quebec kinda does their own thing regardless.
@@andrewbeadle9168They do fly to the UK, to London Heathrow.
@@andrewbeadle9168they fly to Heathrow😂
17:05 When you did that trash bin disposal talking bit, I laughed so hard. Love your videos keep it up.
But the instructions are right there on the lid 😅
That was a great honest video. I love your reviews keep them up. You are great Noel.
Oh wow the memories.
I worked the desk for Air Algérie in Montréal when I was a student.
The airline was infamous among airport workers for still using Mainframe terminals for their booking system (as a Comp sci student, and tech history fan, it appealed to me 😅)
Anyway: almost every passenger would ask me if we had the shitty plane with no onboard entertainment, or the "nice" one that day.
For people wondering... That was around 2015.
lolololololololololololololol
Omg I've never felt so ashamed of being Algerian...we have some nice things but Air Algerie (Air CousCous) is not one of em. Sorry for your experience though!
Puhahhahahaa
فضايح 😂
What do you mean with mainframe ?
Another entertaining video Noel. I love your humour and you are very fair, maybe too fair in this instance. If you were ignored most of that flight in business class, I wonder how they treated the people in economy. Also, very expensive for all that you should get and don't get. The food looked lacklustre, some airlines serve much better food then that in economy. Already looking forward to your next video!
😂😂 at 15:15 I saw the flight attendant in the background squeezing and picking his nose while he was handing over food to the passenger 😮🤢🤮
You're a whole lot kinder than I would have been.
I thought that said AIR ALLERGIES
I mean, it might as well be.
14:11 Hair Allergies
might as well be considering how filthy the plane is
Allergic to work! 😂
As algerians having no choice but to fly with this company especially when it comes to internal flights we suffer from such degradation and the company has many corruption cases linked to it , so im glad someone showed the world their true nature
Perhaps the multiple layers of "security" are a job-creation program.
What is new in such countries..
Socialism in action!
Maybe it's done for security reasons. When j went to Guinea-Bissau last year I had my passport checked 2 times:
The first time, I was stamped out of the country and the second time by Portuguese immigration officers (because Guinea-Bissau is a known hot-spot for people trafficking).
Same with the TSA. It was a job creation program for….well.
@@NomenClature-o8s I recall when the airport -employee security screeners were replaced with the TSA. Generally, professionalism greatly increased after the TSA was created.
@Noel Philips have you ever seen anything so dangerous on one of your flights you've felt compelled to call the authorities?
Welcome to Algeria where everything is Air-Algerie-esque.
"Vegetarian Chilli", isn't that just a fancy name for salsa? 😂
Actually, chilli is by default vegetarian. That's why the meat version is called 'con carne' (with meat). 😊
Noel's Texan neighbors will unfriend him for vegetarian chili.
As an algerian i wanna thank you becuase of the exposing and expressing the fact of that shit
"Like it or lump it."
You can take the man out of northern England, but you can't take northern England out of the man.
Noël is from the East Midlands and not the north. That's why he referred to the bread roll as a cob.
@@Eurobazz in terms of accents and phases, the Midlands counts as the North.
I wouldn’t describe his accent as Northern. There’s a bit of a northern tinge but it’s more southern sounding.
@@wintersnowowen2254 He's from the East Midlands, hence the cob reference for bread roll.
Ain't no northerner in this video 😂 behave
im pretty sure, after this video gonna go viral, both canada and EU gonna block them from coming into our airspace until they sort their safety standards out. absolutely disgraceful
Lol...dream on
Their planes are safe. All we see I also found on Qatar Airways, sooo... 😅
No one will care about your comment
EU won’t do anything as Algeria sells Gas and Oil to Europe
Keep dreaming The only concern that Canada or EU have in these flights is the terrorism security issue.
As an algerian i feel ashamed of "air disasters".
Even Chui couldn't hype this lot up!
😂
Noel, last year for my 50th birthday I went to the US firstly Seattle but travelling from Dublin to Seattle was 400 euro more direct than Dublin to Calgary and then Calgary to Seattle and because we had a connection (my hubby and my niece) to Canada we had to get a Canadian visa even though for only a few minutes and I only discovered this the night before our flight but managed to get it and a few stressful flights later we arrived in Seattle so I'm not surprised you needed a visa in Algeria for just a connection, this is such a pain
The sky lounges at Dulles are the best part of flying to see my family on the east coast. (The worst part is now having to walk for miles to the baggage claim lol) Except when they are absolutely packed! lol
That terminal is beautiful.
The only experience I have had on a business class flight that was worse than this was on EgyptAir from Johannesburg to Madrid. The angled seat was awful, the crew was utterly lazy and sullen, the food was inedible and it was impossible to get a drink.
Been Egypt air - prayed all the way
Thanks for you pointing this out and spreading awareness, even as a american (or a Brit) you might helped spreading awareness among algerians ❤️
