      Granted, something mote modern like A220, a lot more system is just fully automatic.

    This was not the point of this video. He wanted to provide a short video (maybe within the old youtube 15 min limit) on how to start an Airbus 320 without any prior knowledge. And I think he accomplished that.

Does Everest really have the gradually 'slightening' slopes necessary to correct the down pitch at startup without crushing the nose gear at the same time? Do the passengers get a heads up on the minor pressure discomfort that can occasionally occur? Isn't the Annapurna inflight route ultimately a little on the rocky and foggy side? At 4:12 One of the the fault lights on the electric panel is only showing ‘LT’ the FAU is missing, I can see that is probably just an issue with the lights but what if the ‘LT’ also goes away, does that mean a Fault would not be known about

      Just curious, as I don't fly Airbus, but why would shutting down the apu be a necessary procedure after starting the engines? I get it saves a little gas, but can't it wait until airborne?

    • @gajustempus
      @gajustempus 8 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      Joeschmoe for several reasons. Mostly because an additional engine running on an airplane means more stress for the component and therefore sooner maintenance - but it could also lead in vibrations.
      There's at least one incident with an APU running as replacement for a defective generator causing a crash, as one of the struts holding it in place broke in the middle of the flight. That however ripped the entire tail section of the plane away.
      The APU is meant to run on the ground. That's what it was designed for, that's what the security features are planned for.

    • @stephengriffith6636
      @stephengriffith6636 8 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      +gajustempus He forgot an FO too! Which would be a bigger deal than leaving the APU on. :D The APU on the A320 can be run as high as 41,000 ft, no problem at all taking off with it running. Sometimes you might do this for engine performance (the APU running A/C and pressurization, engine bleeds off for takeoff power).

    The APU is a turbojet, in essence. When starting up an engine, fuel is not introduced into the engine until (if I recall) N2 is around 20%. After that, the engine is self-sustaining. The engine parameters are monitored in the cockpit. As for the APU, the computer handles all the startup and introduction of fuel, I would imagine, as there is no monitoring of its engine parameters.

    If ground personal is in front of nose of a/c during apu start and wx is on...thats a huge issue with life long consequences...
