OR 1. You buy a 2 piece nylon strap. Will look like a nato, no extra bulkiness. 2. You buy a normal nato and just fit your hand between the two layers that go underneath the watch. After that you can still put it on as you would normally.
I like Max but this is a huge miss, the whole point of a NOTO is to save you watch if a bar goes. Trying to copy the look is just daft because it copies the bulkiness, far batter just to buy a nylon strap!
Yep. Saved my watch a few times during dives. The watch would hang on one side but at least still intact. Still a great vid and might check those new straps out.
@@matthewjohnson647 well, IIRC he addressed it by saying "yeah, this negates the security of the NATO strap, since if the spring bar fails then the watch with the strap falls off your wrist all at once, but it still looks cool." Lol
@@matthewjohnson647 Quite the opposite - If a spring bar fails whilst using one of these straps then your Watch is hitting the floor quicker than R Kelly at a pre-teen disco! It's purely for the NATO look while reducing the bulk, minus the security.
This is nonsense. NONE of the watches that the NATO was designed and issued for EVER had springbars. This is just people trying to retro-actively explain something they don't actually know the origins of.
I have always hated Nato straps especially with the multiple layers folded up rather than just cutting the strap to size. I stumbled across metal Milanese mesh bracelets and they are a game changer for the "outdoorsy" type watch. The standard Milanese mesh is too thin but they are available at 3mm thick (using 1mm wire). Unfortunately they appear to only be available in 16mm - 22mm with no "odd mm" sizes. Give fleabay a go but they take a bit of searching to find.
I'll defiantly give them a try! I've seen a few friends try them out on Galli S1's but I've never personally had one and thanks for the additional info
Also you should review the MN strap, it's basically Nato, but better and more stretchy, and way less being push up on your wrist like a NATO and way more useful and less ackward like the Zero Pass
So to be clear, another "con" is that it obviously doesn't have the same security as a real NATO because if a spring bar fails, the whole thing just falls off. But that's ok, because this thing isn't made for military use; like so many other things with watches, it's a costume of prior heritage. Great video, dude. I'm glad WatchCrunch signal boosted your channel because I needed a channel that reviewed third party straps.
Excellent point. This is surely true for the large majority of watch enthusiasts. But I do think some people wear NATOs “seriously,” like military and outdoorsy types. To me, understanding the real purpose makes me less likely to buy a “better” NATO strap, both for historical and functional reasons.
@antenox thanks so much for the support, and it’s been a huge help for my channel that he gave me a shout out. Especially as a small creator it can be hard to get impressions without a lot of subscribers

It’s not for everyone but if you ever give it a try I think you’ll realize it’s more comfortable than you think I will say that single pass straps in second which can be a close or far 2nd depending on the brand

I just use the original issue CWC NATO straps. They are welded and not stitched and even the buckle is springbar free making them very reliable. Of course colours are limited but the NATOs were only ever issued in grey and black.
I don’t really see the point of this. Just use a single pass nato, or a two piece strap made of nato material. This looks extremely bulky on the underside and very cumbersome to put on. Plus, $50 for a nato? These are made in China for $0.50
Thanks for the feedback, I understand your point about the price. I think the comfort level or wearing it make up for the bulk buy everyone is different in what they are looking for. I understand that if you look under a microscope, you'll find the difference, but just how many of you really inspect a watch at that level when you see someone with a watch?
I don't get it, it negates the very purpose of a NATO as well as doubling the amount of strap everywhere else. Might as well get a two-piece nylon if you want the NATO look without adding height.
I’ll say I haven’t tried the two piece nylon yet but for me this strap has been incredibly comfortable and has the same look. Are there any two piece nylons you would recommend?
@@WristUnwound Can't recommend since I'm happy with usual NATO, or indeed my single pass perlon (Eulit are the ones for them!). Barton seem to be pretty decent at the two piece if you're interested though.
As someone who doesn't like the look of NATOs, I'm a fan of these (I hate all the extra bulk they add under the watch and having to tuck the extra slack into the keeper). They don't add any extra bulk to the watch which is great, and the leather one is especially nice! I have the red leather one and it looks and feels great. Yeah, it doesn't function like a NATO, but c'mon... how many people doing normal activities have had a spring bar fail??
And they're a lot more comfortable to wear than any of my nato straps. My favorite is their lucky green leather. It looks really nice on my Seiko Alpinist and my Bulova Lunar Pilot. I also have their steel grey and army green nylon straps which I rotate around. They're currently my favorite straps.
I’m really looking to get the leather one next, and I totally agree with all your point and will add that I’ve literally jumped out of planes multiple times and still never had a spring bar fail

Hey! Good video. I tried looking at Max’s and it wasn’t clear how it worked. Thank you for being so detailed! I am a new subscriber. Looking forward to your next productions.
Funnily enough, MAMACOO's replicas are perfect for people who can actually afford a luxury watch. Because in those social circles, it wouldn't matter and everybody would just assume it's real. You have a yacht and a beach house in Tuscany, of course that replica is real. There isn't a millionaire out there going around with a jeweller's loupe to scrutinize their acquaintance's watch. They'll just go "Oh is that a Patek? Nice, I should really get my hands on one of those, they look great."
It was a timex expansion and it was not with nato 😢 I just use my foot to protect my watch lucky that tym and second tym fallen down on case and got scratch 😢
I just got mine a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it. Very comfortable and makes the watch fit a lot better. I have a ton of nato straps both leather and nylon and this zero pass is the most comfortable to wear and the best looking. I have it on a Seiko Alpinist and a Bulova Lunar Pilot and it looks really good on my wrist with both watch. I don't go on combat missions or deep sea diving with my watch so I'm not really worried about spring bar failures. Decades of wearing watches to work and with normal day to day activities and never had a spring bar failure on any of my watch. I've worn nato straps purely for the aesthetics and not for the security against spring bar failures. 99% of those who wear nato straps are probably the same, weather they admit it or not.
This is more TH-cam grifting, goofy AF and squarely aimed at the WatchCrunch community that Max helped develop with an eye towards future monetization. I owned a clothing company that made professional quality work wear for commercial fisherman and the idea that $30-40 for a strip of cloth and a few pieces of hardware is reasonable shows just how gullible some people are in the face of affinity marketing. I sold six-pocket cordura shorts for less than that. Max made a video calling those who didn’t like his idea “haters”. A maker blaming the preferences of the marketplace for the lukewarm reception of his product tells me everything I need to know about his business acumen.
I think it serves a different purpose. I think it provides the aesthetics of a NATO without the bulk of having the cloth underneath but you are right in the fact that it does lack the security of NATO
Just my opinion, but after years of using them I have quit NATO straps completely. I just got tired of the slop of the extra material that is folded back a stuffed into the hardware. The concept was sound for a hard use military type function, the safety of the prevention of the loss of the watch in the event of spring bar failure, but my military days are over, so I don't need that redundancy. I just settled on two-piece nylon straps, made of similar material as NATOs, but with a standard strap look in terms the stowing of the strap end. I have a box with dozens of NATO straps that I just can't go back to, and I doubt the zero pass strap would change my opinion on the sloppy look of that extra material. Enjoy your channel.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on NATO straps! I get that some people don't like the look of the extra material And thanks so much for your support it really does help and means a lot to me 🙌🏾
It doesn’t offer the same protection but it does give you the look without the extra material under the watch. Do you have a favorite alternative strap?
I dont get it. The Zero Pass defeats the point of a NATO. And if I wanted a NATO look without the extra layer, I'd just buy a two-piece. To me, it seems like the guy tried to reinvent the wheel.
OR
1. You buy a 2 piece nylon strap. Will look like a nato, no extra bulkiness.
2. You buy a normal nato and just fit your hand between the two layers that go underneath the watch. After that you can still put it on as you would normally.

Really never saw it that way...
Enjoyed your video but the strap itself makes no sense.
Thanks so much for the support! While this strap isn’t for you hopefully some of my other videos will be 👍🏾
For those of us that wear watches with fixed bars this is a great additional option
What’s your go to watch?
If your spring bar goes on any watch, strap its bye bye shiny watch .
At least a NATO will save it , i suppose .
Have you ever had a spring bar fail?
Nato is maked for safety of our watch if zero passed it makes not safe 😢
Very true. How often have you had spring bars fail on you?
@WristUnwound 2 times
Wow, same watch? and what were you doing when it happened?
It was a timex expansion and it was not with nato 😢 I just use my foot to protect my watch lucky that tym and second tym fallen down on case and got scratch 😢
Hate to hear the watch got scratched but glad it wasn't lost
Great video mate👍👍
Thanks 👍 I always appreciate the support 🙌🏾
Beautiful video with a very valid point on innovation from a TH-camr!
Thanks, I really appreciate you taking the time to watch. 👍
Great video. This strap isn’t for me… thanks for walking us through it.
Appreciate you coming by the channels and showing support 🙌🏾
Thanks for the review, you hit the nail on the head. You've got great taste, the Alpinist and Lunar Pilot are both awesome choices!
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts!
It has all the disadvantages of a normal nato strap and none of the advantages, lol. After I saw this I unsubscribed from his channel.
I think it serves a different purpose. I think it provides the aesthetics of a NATO without the bulk of having the cloth underneath but you are right in the fact that it does lack the security of NATO
Is this the stolen valor version of watch accessories?
😂🤪😂🤪 more like the JROTC
The military watches that NATOs were made for never had springbars.
Me too, two piece nylon straps with NATO style keepers are a great compromise.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on NATO straps! I get that some people don't like the look of the extra material
And thanks so much for your support it really does help and means a lot to me 🙌🏾
All these manlets complaining about layers of nylon need to get out more.
What’s a manlet? Someone else is asking.. not me because I know what it is 👀
Put the strap on, then put on the spring bar.
Stop watching here
But did you hit like and subscribe for the algorithm before you left? 😆
that defeats the point of the nato.
I think they had a recent promotion where you could buy one and if you don't like it you could return it. It might be worth a try
overpriced garbage
The Zero Pass Strap looks more elegant than even the Single Pass NATO Strap so it is surely a HIT !!
Totally agree and thanks so much for supporting the channel
The leather version is ridiculously soft.
That’s great to hear, what color did you get?
@@WristUnwound Ron Burgundy
Great name for a strap too 😆 shocked they didn’t get copy righted
Ran into this video thanks to the algorithm. Great job. Look forward to more nice video
Awesome! Thank you for supporting and I’m glad the TH-cam gods put you in front on me and I didn’t whiff it 🙌🏾
