I love watching your videos and MAMACOO to keep myself updated on the world of watches
All dat MAMACOO watches sssssoooooooo gorgeous!
All dat MAMACOO watches sssssoooooooo gorgeous!
For people who say that quartz has no soul I think they need to consider that there can still be a lot of soul if you take into account the design and engineering that goes into the case and dial. Anyway, very close to finally getting the Pepsi Q GMT, been stalking it for a long time.
RLTW!
This is such a helpful video! I spent way longer than I wanted trying to find my watch's instruction manual, or anything that could tell me how to open it. Thanks so much for making this video!
I'm glad it could help! It's definitely one of those things that's much easier to learn by watching than by reading, if you ever need anything else let me know
Buy a watch that tells a story.
I couldn't agree more!
You’re a rather impressive young man with a very eloquent and sincere way of expressing yourself and I like that . Seems like you have a great balance in your family life too ,so having a great hobby like this will only serve as a cement - my wife and both ,by now grown up daughters, are watch lovers and all three have small collections of their own ,which undoubtedly is the result of my “annoying habit “😂 .
I’m glad you enjoyed the video and I appreciate the kind words! 🙌🏾 I have loved getting my daughters into the hobby and can't wait to share watch stories with them as they grow older, and its fun to feature them on in videos when I can. I'm hoping to get my youngest more involved soon but as a 3 year old she doesn't follow a script very well XD
I guess his wife has bought him his new watch. Show it to us😊
I'm still waiting to get it but it should be coming soon!
Recently been getting into (or back into) quartz. There’s some really beautiful, well made pieces for relatively little money and upkeep and if you’re on a strict budget they’re really a great route to go.
I couldn’t agree more, what’s your most recent purchase or the one you’ve had your eye on?!
@ Got the S3 Tradition from VAER kind of as a back up for my Seiko 5 and wouldn’t you know it, it didn’t leave the wrist for two weeks, it’s been great! Very relaxing with the set and forget accuracy and not freaking out after accidentally knocking it on something. Now I’m looking around at some neo-vintage quartz Seiko Tanks and Dolce dress watches.
The S3 looks great and gives me explorer vibes. How is the build quality of Vaer I've never tried any of their watches?
So far it’s been fantastic. It feels pretty small and light but it’s stainless steel, sapphire, 10 Bar and has survived falling off my nightstand a number of times without a scratch.
Love your channel with so many stellar watches! For me the MAMACOO’ watch is my favorite. Keep the videos coming. Thanks.
Which one is that?
The comment is left as per request.
You are a real one for this 🫡🫡🫡
I bought a watch from MAMACOO lightly used for my last milestone birthday. Don't wear it as much as it deserves, but not afraid to, either. It's stunning . Good taste, Sir.
I’m glad you liked it! and I agree with the thickness and would probably add weight as well for me personally. I prefer lighter watches so titanium is a go to. I also like how you highlight the importance of feel because certain watches especially those with integrated bracelets really have to be worn and felt beyond just the specs Thanks again for the comment!
Picked up a MAMACOO's watch as my first watch last month and I’m absolutely in love with it. Perfect size, looks elegant, very comfortable. Now my only problem is holding off from buying more watches so quickly!
Sounds like you've got the bug! 😉
Good content, if I may give one advice, perhaps more B roll of watches you're talking about. It will hold the viewer's interest more than just you sitting and talking. Otherwise good video!
Thanks for the feedback, I'll keep that in mind for future videos! Interesting enough when I published the video I felt like it needed more b roll too. Gotta trust my gut and keep learning. I appreciate the comment and feedback 🙌🏾
@@WristUnwound other than that, grea topics, background and oral composition!
Thank you!
I do think there’s a caveat for rule 4, is if it is a very rare/discontinued watch, dude I want to experience a 5 digit sub so badly, without worrying about WR or other vintage hassle’s
touche, that is a great reason to get one
Great content. Very interesting how that sort of watch gets produced. I’ve owned a Ranger and loved it. You should definitely get one next time. Great respect for your service from a British viewer.👍
Thank you so much and I definitely am. Also much love to our counsins from across the pond
I’ll just add it’s crazy the US Gov doesn’t buy every special forces unit a watch. If salespeople get give Rolex’s least we can do is buy our operators nice time pieces.
Respect your service. But characterizing what the US government did to the native nations as protection is a strong white wash of history.
Thank you for sharing. Tudor has an amazing lineage and has been a part of military culture for many years. We also had problems trying to customize a Tudor. I absolutely understand though. With watches of espionage raising awareness of unit watches they are receiving a lot of requests. We ended up going with Breitling who were very accommodating allowing both dial and caseback customization as well as flexibility in the model we selected. For a more inexpensive model look at stirling watch company. Started by British Para they are military watches and stirling is more than willing to customize dial and case back. We did a stirling run and they are solid!
I really appreciate that info, do you have an insta where I can see the watch you all got?
Had to pause and I’ll come back. I like your Rolex list and Seiko. Personally I love the new Air-King but I really want the Milgauss to get the upgrade treatment (spring and case).
The new Air-King is really nice! 👌 What do you think will happen first, Milgaus update or Tudor dropping a white dial, 39mm GMT?
@ well I do think Tudor is going to come out with several GMTs next year. A white dial in the next few years I think is likely but I think a monochrome will happen first. Between the two I would say white dial before Milgauss. Just because Rolex is slow with releases and the Milgauss hasn’t been gone very long. And Tudor seems to be moving fast to put out what people want. In my dreams I hope they bring the GMT to the 39 Pelagos.
I agree with most of your points. I do differ on homage watches. I have a good example. I will never be able to buy a Royal Oak or any Genta designed watch that I would actually desire. But I can afford a Christopher Ward Twelve… which is a beautiful piece with its own design language in the Genta style (I know they borrowed lots from GP). But buying that, if you want an integrated sports watch (and it’s something you like that’s always key) then it’s a good buy for anyone. When dealing with watches 5 figures and greater, a well made homage that has its own flavor, is a good buy. The rest of your list is solid and good guidance for anyone in this silly expensive game. Hahaha
Thanks for sharing your perspective - I like the way you put that! Also I recently just found out about the Twelve and its incredible
@ it’s actually the watch that drew me back into watches after some dark apple times… but I’m so cautious about big purchases I didn’t get one and now I’m a little over the integrated watch look. Now I’m more focused on dedicated divers, dress watches, etc. not saying I’m done with the style, just others have taken more priority. Oh and the Bel Canto by Ward has become a highly desirable piece for me. How do you feel about the integrated look?
Holy crap thanks for your service man! Rangers are badass. Didn’t know this about your life. Your watch channel is off to a great start. Proud to have found this channel early on, you’re going places man!
Thanks so much man, glad you enjoyed the video! Appreciate the support! 🙌🏾
Excellent principles for all watch collectors, especially beginners!! With respect to watches sizes, I think there is leeway. For example, my usual go-to is 38 to 41, but there a few that felt and looked great at 43 (Tag) or 36 (Rolex), especially with different lug to lug lengths. Trying first to get a good feel is preferred. Typically, it’s the thickness that makes it most uncomfortable, thinner is better (or at least titanium).
Love the video! Very chili vibes, I recently got my Tudor 79360 white dial version for under retail, definitely look out for those deals!
That’s amazing, you scored a great deal! 😎
Very refreshing format and sensible advice too. Hope you enjoy the grail watch and looking forward to seeing a video of it. Peace.
Appreciate that! And it should be coming very soon!
Great advice dude !
Glad it was helpful! 🙌🏾🙌🏾
And i appreciate your support 🫡
Some sensible advice, especially the advice to have patience & not to impress. Homage, it depends. If you like the original mainly for the esthetics, because it looks good, why not? But if you like it for the craftmanship & the brand, then no, it does not make sense.
Agree about the homage point it’s a lot more nuanced, I might need to make a whole video to really try and explain the differences. Appreciate the support and comment 🙌🏾
I'm glad nobody ever badmouths my Sunflame watch.
What’s a sunflame watch?!! Is that code for a sundial?! 😝
@@WristUnwoundIt's a Japanese-made watch. I bought one in Tokyo 2 years ago when my very old Timex died, thinking it would just be a temporary watch. It's still my main watch. Only cost about $40. They don't sell them in the US.
I just googled them, did you get the field watch variant? Also what was the timex?!? I'm a huge Timex fan
@@WristUnwound The Sunflame has a date window and a little cyclops window over that, so I wouldn't call it a field watch. I could do without the cyclops window, which actually makes the date harder to read. Doesn't look like Sunflame sells this particular model of watch anymore. As for the Timex, it was at least 20 years old. It was just a cheap watch that maybe cost $25 or $30, but it sure lasted a long time. I noticed that one day the crystal was all fogged up, and a few days later it stopped running. I thought it might be the battery so I took the back off, and everything inside had rotted away. I'm not into watches, so I don't really pay attention to the models.
good video very chill dude
Appreciate the love! Glad you enjoyed it. 🙌🏾 and appreciate your supporting a small channel 🫡🫡
Love your videos. I do have to disagree on homage watches, at least partially. When people say San Martin, multiple brands that end in "dive" copy the Rolex sub, the original Rolex sub was basically a knockoff Blancpain. I understand many watch enthusiasts are younger and take Rolex claims as gospel, but Rolex (and many others) have stretched the truth a lot. Most Swiss Divers strongly resemble the Sub, sure they'll use a different handset or make a small change here and there, but they're not fooling most of us. Back in the stone age, I bought a Breitling Super Ocean as a graduation gift for myself and then started my career. Beautiful watch but for years I kept wondering, 4 grand for this? My $300 dollar Seiko is also beautiful and works great. Just a few years ago, I bought a Seiko Sumo. It was expensive so I also bought a Steeldive copy for weekend activities. Guess what? The Steeldive case finishing was almost as good, the fit, bezel/dial alignment and overall construction was worlds better than any of my Seikos from within the last 10 years. My Timex Expedition North Titanium? A watch inspired by the old field watch (Hamilton being the most famous) - have the Timex, sold the Hamilton. Timex simply did it better. Just saying, many big Japanese and Swiss brands are relying on their name and clever marketing while raising prices at an alarming rate while QC slips. Great video.
It's an interesting perspective, and you make some excellent points about the evolution of watch design. This whole comment could make a great video 🤔
Great video! I've purchased over retail - once. For the Everest gilt dial. Regarding homages, I think it is good to have the option of getting an aesthetic that is otherwise unobtainable... but fully agree, go into it knowing it may not scratch the itch.
Do you have any regrets for the purchase over retail?!
Some good advice here. Just me, Item two: agree. I always wait out new releases and find the price drops significantly if you can avoid the "Gotta Have It Now" impulse. I've saved hundreds maybe thousands over the years just waiting. Item four, guilty. I'd never venture into item 5 territory with blatantly fake watches with logos from premium brands, but I have several homages because I like the basic design but can't justify a good used car worth of money on my wrist. And if I could afford one, I'd be afraid to wear it, so homages work for me.
After reading a lot of the comments I realize there is a lot more nuance to the Homage point. I might need to make another video because I realize their are a lot more points where it makes sense to buy it than I originally thought 💭
Homage watches in my opinion have value. Some people will never be in a position to buy the most complicated Patek, but an independent or microbrand brand reimagines that model for an alternative option. There's also the crowd of people that are casual buyers and may find those luxury designs to be amazing, but refuse to spend $300 bucks, so $2k and above is out of the question. Lastly, some independent watch makers love the designs of Patek, AP, VC, B&S and Rolex, so he or she creates a homage in hope of people loving that particular rendition.
You're right, it's a nuanced topic that goes beyond just "don't buy them." Especially for those pieces that most of us can never get our hands on. I always appreciate your input 🙌🏾
