      The Novus Ordo Mass is a holy sacrifice, a gift from God through the Holy Spirit. If your Catholic faith depends on avoiding a liturgy formulated and promulgated by an Ecumenical Council, how strong is your Catholic faith?
      We are Catholic not despite of the Mass, but because of the Mass, as it is prayed around the world.
      The Baroque Mass attracts some to the Faith, but its language, and the culture surrounding it, also alienates many others.
      My personal view is that liturgical diversity is healthy, but that liturgical supremacy is dangerous and toxic.
      Glory be to God!

    I thoroughly enjoyed this episode for many reasons, but I’ll only name one in particular: this was not a typical guest. What do I mean by that?
    As a listener of PWA for a few years, I’ve come to see a theme in guests: 1) religious, 2) professors, or 3) to a varying degree, Catholic apologists. There are exceptions to the rule.
    A set of commonalities these type of guests we’ve seen share resides in their practiced: 1) manner of speaking (tone, phrasing, and rhythm), 2) use of a more calm body language, and 3) use of subtle, body language cues to engage the other person in conversation.
    Professors are naturally the most practiced at these skills. Catholic apologists use these skills in their conference talks. Religious (priests or religious) are the most varied, but owing to the grace of the vocation and practiced ability to even out their temperament, they’re able to typically get by within most conversations.
    Our guest today may have made many of us feel uncomfortable owing to his untrained manner of public speaking, as well as quick tempo. Our guest today raised to the conversation more varying topics in a short amount of time than most guests, which may have resulted in some of us feeling a bit scatter-brained. Our guest today is very smart but at the same time is still very young (22). With this comes a situation where we want to listen but at the same time are hesitant to really listen owing to our own biases.
    Our guest today was like all of us when we were rapidly coming to know the truths of the Catholic faith. He is more like the young men in your parish who are on fire for the faith than you might think (at least in trad-world). I was a convert at 19. I understand this level of rapid enthusiasm accompanied with vivacious reading habits and a desire to say all the facts with their underlying connections before noticing the other person’s face! :)
    Listen with an open heart, an open mind, and with only 75% speed. ;) +JMJ+

    Thank you, as ever, for a thought-provoking video which I, an uncomfortable lowish church Anglican looking into Anglo-Catholicism and Orthodoxy, needed to hear.
    How delightful, Mr. Frad, to hear that a book by you was made into Braille. If I may, things can only be transcribed into Braille, not translated, as it is only a different writing system. Either way, good material is extremely hard to find here in South Africa, particularly anything Christian. People seem to think that we blind people all love ebooks. Of course, we do not; I particularly object to praying from them... Well, enough of that.

    I love how well informed he is on creationism - that truly Revelation is the lens and our guiding light for Reason her handmaid, that theology is the Queen of the sciences and that all things must be subordinated to it. Quite so often, evolutionism is treated as the super dogma that all things, even the Scriptures, must be subject to.

    • @thislong858

    • @verum-in-omnibus1035
      @verum-in-omnibus1035 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thislong858 agree with you both 100. People like Jimmy Aikin and Trent Horn perpetuate the lie that Christianity, and of course I mean traditional Catholicism by that, is compatible with the antichrist molecules to man evolutionary theory. It was literally designed to erase God, and to seem wise to the world they’ve become fools.
      You literally have to believe that while God could have created us in one instance, he instead took billions of years of pain, death and deformity of his creations to bring about “humans“ in the wounds of sub human primates. So Scripture is lying when were taught sin brought death into the world. It gives us a distorted theology and absolutely will lead someone away from Christ. No other way about it.

      Honestly that’s sort of where I got off the train, trying to support young earth creationism seems silly to me. Like he said earlier in the podcast there are other cultures who’s historical records go back farther then the young earth model says is even possible. I’d listen to a debate from him about creationism but I think DNA evidence alone demonstrates a common ancestor.

    God bless you Gideon, and may Our Lady cover you in her mantle of protection! To clarify one point: the three children of Fatima were NOT told beforehand what kind of miracle would take place on October 13, 1917. They were merely told by Our Lady that she would perform a miracle, so that all might see it and believe in God. They came, they saw, they believed! I recommend the book 'Our Lady of Fatima' by American writer William T. Walsh, published in 1946, where he interviewed the still liviing parents of Sts. Francisco and Jacinta

    I’m trying to keep up with everything you are saying...I’ve been Catholic all my life but I am definitely still learning things everyday. So...I stopped the video at epiclesis and this is why...I’m not sure if you said that there are some rites that took that out and some that kept it. I actually had never heard the work epiclesis until I think 2019/2020? This is why I even head about it in the first place...i went to mass on a Sunday as usual. On that day there happened to be the archbishop of Ottawa, two priests, a deacon and a seminarian. The archbishop gave the homily and spoke about the Eucharist. I listened intently despite being alone with my two often rambunctious children. He spoke about a survey that had been done recently regarding how many people actually believed in the real presence. I could observe the pain in his face as he spoke of this and I was very moved. During the consecration of the gifts (usually a bit of a stressful time with the kids) I managed to ask the children to kneel but then very unusually I managed to shift focus 100% to what was happening at the altar. I was aware of the children but I preoccupied about them (I worry about their behaviour at church all the time!). Anyway, I was really somehow hyper focused on the altar and as the archbishop asked the Father to send his Holy Spirit on the gifts (which I now know is the epiclesis) I saw the shadow of a bird go from one side to the other. It was impressive and I remember my head moving to follow the bird in a movement kind of like a rainbow from one side over to the other. Now, there is a huge skylight above the altar so I assumed that it must have been a perfectly timed bird and inwardly thanked God for that beautiful coincidence. At the end of mass I asked everyone I knew if they saw that beautiful display and it turned out nobody, absolutely nobody saw it. At this point I questioned if I really saw what I saw. But I was convinced I did, just confused why I was the only one who saw it. Even the priests didn’t see it. I let it go, and the only thing that somewhat bothered me was why God would want me to see this, not that it bothered me, not at all, but what does he want me to do with this? Perhaps he was just happy that I paid attention at mass? Maybe to experience His goodness? Well sometime later after doing chores at home for a few hours I decided to sit down and eat while listening to I think it was Scott Hahn on the meaning of the mass and an explanation of all its parts. It was a cloudy day. Then all of a sudden the sun came out, shone on my phone (where i was listening to the lecture) and there it was, Scott Hahn started to explain the epiclesis! I remember writing to a friend about it and telling the children. So all this to say...don’t ever let anyone tell you that the epiclesis doesn’t belong in the mass. It is true!

    I feel the same way why does everyone attack the Catholic Church and why would Satan fight to destroy the church so hard if he already had it? He wouldn’t… and also I agree how would 80,000 people all have the same mass hallucination. Scientists agree that it isn’t possible.

      Thomas Merton, in the Seven Story Mountain, describes how the enemy attempts to obfuscate the greatest goods in a shroud of scandal. *Corruptio Optimi Pessima*. Merton explains, “Since evil is the defect of good, the lack of a good that ought to be there, and nothing positive in itself… it follows that the greatest evil is found where the highest good has been corrupted.”
      Gideon in 1:27:39 seemed to be alluding to this idea. Matt’s rebuttal is clever in that, when discerning which “denomination” has the fullness the truth, merely claiming the presence of demonic oppression or attack amongst a particular faith denomination doesn’t necessarily equate to which faith has the fullness of the Truth. However, Gideon’s response here is beautiful in that he says “yeah I don’t think this is sort of the final proof of it, but I think that it’s a sign that points to it” Granted, Matt does continue to play Socrates here and Gideon continues defending and sharing the witness of his new found Catholic faith within reason… but I think that if you just slow down here for a second you can find a nugget of, if not mystical truth, wisdom. The wisdom that, the mere presence of the enemy engaging in a Spiritual Battle with an individual or entire faith, only goes to show that if evil lurks around every corner ready to deprive the good, a very real good that IS present in the object that “evil” is trying to strip of its goodness. Now if this is the order one finds themselves in a postlapsarian world, and there are varying degrees to which one is aligned to the truth, and the order of goodness is being fought both within man, and with a force outside of man; it follows that, the closer man gets to that truth, the more shocking it would be were one to be corrupted with it. Thats why God inspired James to warn those who wish to be teachers of the Church “Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, for you know that we who teach shall be judged with greater strictness.” James 3:1 “If I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.” 1 Cor 13:2
      God bless you and your ongoing witness to the faith. Stay yoked. Keep fighting the good fight (;

    I really appreciate the detailed discussion of all the differences among byzantine, orthodox, east, west, and I especially appreciate having the explanation of the history of the filioque. I would like to mention gently That the old testament is full of musical instruments That are now considered somewhat out of place, like tambourines, And liturgical actions such as dancing. I don't attend the latin mass myself, But I am concerned that it remain Freely available to those who want to go. Can't we please stop "biting and devouring each other," as St. Paul calls it, before we end up in "consuming one another"? (Gal 5:15 NAB)

    Very engaging and thought provoking! I remember my college Psyche 101 textbook saying that Fatima was an example of mass hypnosis. I don't know if I had heard much about Our Lady of Fatima before that. I just remember thinking that was a really weird phenomenon. And now look! They're saying that Mass Psychosis Formation is a conspiracy theory, but that Mass Hypnosis thing is totally legit psychology science 😆

    Matt I loved this presentation. Gideon Lazar You are awesome!!!!! I have subcribed to The Byzantine Scotist. I love you are looking into unifing Scotish, with St Palamas and possible reconcilling Aquainis. I love Matthias Joseph Scheeben on the marriage to Christ as a way to veiw deafication and Also St Maximuim Kolbe on Mary being the Immaculate Conception based on the Lourdes Apparition. Mary as God's created natural wisdom ( Not God's uncreated Wisdom,Christ)as decribed in Proverbs the frist thing created (Proverbs 8:22)The Lord created me at the beginning of his work,
    the first of his acts of long ago!!!!!!!!!!! The concept of Mary, Not her actual creation. I am so grateful you both did this.

    It was great to hear from you Gideon Lazar! It's not many Catholics who are brave enough to stand up for a literal Genesis and age of the earth. You are not alone, and I can't wait to hear more from you sometime on what you discover! You are right, there is incredible science that supports young earth creationism, and explains the evidence in that context. I'm a convert myself, and went through a different, but similarly rigorous journey where eventually I could not deny the truth of Catholicism any longer. Peace Brother.

    I was listening to the podcast when I decided to go watch it instead, because I was so repulsed by Gideon’s whiny voice.
    But I kept watching because he makes so much sense and was hooked by his reasoning (“because it’s true”) - the same reasoning that converted me from atheism.
    I even sent this interview to my 20 year old son in the Marine Corps, so persuasive did I find Gideon’s reasoning. (My son is a faithful Traditional Catholic too.)
    God bless him. Compelling.

    I can appreciate Gideon's excitement - also at his age I came (from Protestantism) to Orthodoxy and then read my way (back) to Catholicism, but I would caution him to be really humble and slow to present himself publicly as a teacher (which he clearly aspires to having the YT channel in the format that it has). Give it 5-10 more years, Gideon, it's worth to be a disciple for a while to avoid certain traps that lie in the way of bright young people - which you clearly are.

    • @verum-in-omnibus1035
      @verum-in-omnibus1035 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could not disagree with you more than he should wait a decade before publicly creating in apostolate.
      Gideon is clearly very humble, not afraid to admit when he handled things poorly or has learned something new. That’s exactly what young people need. Not more polish, but truth and honesty. Jimmy Aikin is knowledgeable and super polished, always seems to have a quip - and he promotes some very awful things. Especially a young faithful man speaking out about the evil of so-called Catholics promoting and adopting evolution as a worldview.
