In Catholic elementary school, we went and spent time with our local jewish temple. It was very interesting and it helped me understand my catholic faith

As someone who tried to convert to Judaism, Catholicism and Judaism are not that different. This is honestly the video I’ve been wanting to see. Judaism is beautiful, and we should be more like them. So sad to see so much anti-semitism on here. We have in no way replaced the Jewish people. No way. Even the Church is clear about this.
@@asdfasdf3989 Esatto! Modern Rabbinic Judaism isn't Biblical Judaism. The average Orthodox rabbinic doesn't even know what the Prophecies and Writings say, let alone what they mean. Torah is filtered thru Talmud and distorted.

I lived in Milwaukee in a neighborhood whch was equally German Catholic and mostly German Jewish and to get speakers you need enough people. St Catherine's had the hall and the parking lot. And we had joint meetings and open CYO dances. And we respected the differences as well as enjoyed what we had in common.
This is amazing. It was very enriching and informative. The open dialogue and sharing of spirituality and practices was very eye opening and appreciated.

As a Catholic, I consider Jews to be brothers. Judaism is our mother faith. Christ was a Jew. I have never understood Catholic animosity and oppression of Jewish people. I have always been on their side.
We used to here, in the West, as well, on New Years Day, January 1. This is now the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God but the Gospel Reading of the day is still the Circumcision as recorded in Luke's Gospel.

I always struggled with catholicism as I was raised as one and why we just were not converting to judiasm being that they were jewish. I really wanted to get to the fundementals and follow that.
As a Catholic I'm really confused and dismayed by what happened in this episode, particularly right around the 50:10 mark. The rabbi said, "There isn't a religion on this planet in which there aren't people who misrepresent what their religion is supposed to teach in order to say I am more right that you are" and the response from the Catholic hosts was apparent agreement. Aren't we as Catholics bound to believe that Catholism is the one and only true religion, and that there is no salvation outside the Catholic Church? If that is true, then don't Catholics have the ability to say we are more right than every other religion? Why didn't any of the hosts say that? Do they think it doesn't matter if one is Catholic or not to be saved or that Catholicism is just as good as any other religion?
Do the Jews refuse to accept jesus as the messiah yes but does this mean that they are also a path to salvation no but salvation does come from the Jewish religion. Dialogue does not mean that your faith is just as good as mine, it means we can learn where we stand with each other. The catholic church is the true church but all we can do is present those truths and pray that those who hear will accept them. I tried and failed at saying your faith is false, I just pissed everyone off and converted no one. The only best way to show people the truth is to be real be zealous in the catholic Faith and with a true sence that we are both human the only one who converts is the holy spirit but that only works until people lose there ignorance and hardheartedness

mn123456 as a Catholic we’re to be loving, of everyone. We have the fullness, of truth! But, salvation can come from outside, of the Catholic faith. The Catholic Chatechism teaches this. Jesus is the head of the Church, and he is the Judge. Honestly, all Christians whether they believe, or not are Catholic. They are to strive to be the Body of Christ, evangelize the Gospel (Universal Truth), and the Jewish people practice the Law, provided by God. We just accept the full “Truth”, of the Roman Rite. To say we are the only path, and you have no salvation, is to bring judgement, onto ones self. We are to be meek, and provide truth, in a loving manner. Thanks Be To God, in the Love and Mercy Jesus provides us with.

Judah haNassi is Judah the prince not priest. Jewish Oral Law/Tradition+Apostolic Tradition= Catholic Sacred Tradition. Most of the Catholic beliefs and customs are from Jewish Oral Tradition. The rabbi is incorrect in some of his explanations. Torah means law. When it comes to Judaism, you guys need to stop saying, Christian... Judaism is very Catholic and very un-Protestant. Protestants reject the Torah Shebaal Peh which is central to Judaism. Jews pray to the tzaddikim and ask for their graces and intercessions. You guys really need a Jewish Catholic there when you being a rabbi because the Jewish Catholic would help the Catholics and the Jews connect and bring out the commonality of tradition.

When i was in 9th grade my biology teacher Mr. H , was so kind soft spoken and in love with the science and sometimes he would want to speak religion but would stop dead in his tracks and change subjects immediately. A couple of years ago i found out he was a Jehovah witness and i found it so strange that he wouldn't say hi. I thought he probably didn't remember who i was untill i ran into him again and he said Hi Patricia. But see that time he wasn't with his Jehovah buddies. Weird.
Remember that the Catholic Church was an OFFICIALLY sect within Judaism. If you read Acts 1 and you are familiar with Halakhah Law you will immediately notice that the Catholic Church is a legal entity WITHIN Judaism. If you read you will notice that there are 120 members in this synagogue. Why is this important? It is the exact number of persons in the Halakhah regulations to form a full fledged synagogue. Next according to Halakhah regulations there must be a beit din formed. We see that there is a beit din and it draws lots and Matthias a disciple is chosen to take over Judas bishopric (episkopen). So these the two of the three requirements are met. The third requirement is that there must be a nasi (prince, temporal) and ab ( father, spiritual) appointed. Curiously Peter is filling both these positions in this beit din. Why? In 190 BC the Kohan Gadol fell into apostasy and beit din gadol cast a vote of no confidence splitting the two offices of the kohan gadol into the nasi and ab within the beit din gadol. However, in this new beit din which is actually a beit din gadol (70 disciples) Christ has placed His confidence in PEter and brought the two offices back together the way it is supposed to have been. So is Judaism dead? No! It is now know as Catholicism. That is why everything we believe is so strange to Protestants because everything we believe is Judaism in origin, custom and practice. Also the pope has both temporal and spiritual powers. Peter is the prince of the apostles and the pope (Pope meaning papa - meaning father) as you see even today the pope is both nasi and the ab in Catholicism.
We have not replaced the Jews. No way. They are God’s chosen, and it is still the case. We are one, but they have Torah and we have Jesus. We are all under the God of Israel. They’re our big brothers.
We have not replaced the Jews but have been grafted into their tree and this have 'become Jews' in a sense. Basically Judaism led to Catholicism as being the fulfillment of how God wants His Church/people to worship and live.
The Talmud doesn’t mention Jesus. They mention one guy Yeshu, but that’s it, and he’s mentioned in passing. I know, because even tho I am Catholic, I studied Judaism, I went to several orthodox Jewish shuls, they don’t ever talk about Jesus. They only talk about Torah, which is honestly what they’re commanded to do.
I greatly appreciate and love the Jewish people and the Jewish roots of Catholicism! I pray that we may all be one and share the fullness of faith in Jesus Christ one day. As for Fr. Pagano's comment regarding dialogue with communities that practice sinful acts not in accord with the Catholic teaching and do so in a prideful, willful and public way, I strongly disagree that any further dialogue is needed. Any person who persists in willful, public sin knowing that it is against the moral law of the Catholic Church should not be admitted to the Sacraments. This has always been the position of the Church and there is no need to dialogue because this should not ever change. If it does, via magisterial approval that is wrong and contrary to Scripture, and Tradition, it can not stand. I feel that there has been more than enough dialogue on this topic in a public and communal sense. Any further dialogue is simply a distraction and a waste of time, stealing us away from our other Christian duties of prayer, sacrifice and charity. All sides should have a clear understanding of the position of the scriptures and the Catholic Church's teaching since it's beginning. This is not a secret and free for any one to learn and understand. However, it is true, that person's who find themselves experiencing any temptation and /or fall in to sin of any kind should be able to receive counsel from the priest privately and be given the clear teaching of the Church with compassion and kindness to help this person to OVERCOME their sin. In the early Church the process of accompanying someone into The Church was a 3 year process in which the Catecumen was taught the Christian life and practice and was free to accept or reject it, prior to baptism, or any other sacramental participation. That is the time to accompany the INDIVIDUAL privately and personally. We should not be admitting anyone to the Sacraments if they are not willing to accept our faith and morals. We should not be building any bridges in this regard for any one who publicly states that their sin of choice is one they refuse to acknowledge as such and overcome. That is what is currently being entertained in the dialogue of today and it is wrong and uncharitable to these souls in real trouble. It is a misguided and false Mercy. On a personal note: As a heterosexual woman, prior to my conversion to my Catholic faith I have had more gay friends in my life than straight ones. They were dear to me. I have a deep regret that I was not practicing my faith earlier in my life and I didn't have an good understanding of the Church's teaching on sexuality and the human person, marriage and family so I was not able to share this teaching with them in truth out of concern and love for them. It was the VILE comments that one gay friend made about the Catholic Church and Jesus specifically, before he knew I was Catholic ( I wasn't practicing at the time) that started me on a path to re-version. I wanted to know and understand the why The Church did not accept homosexuality and what the Scriptures had to say on the matter. Prior that moment I hadn't really given it much thought. At the time his comments hurt me deeply because I was accepting and loving of him and his partner and had never questioned his sexuality or him in any negative way...but to hear the way he and his partner spoke so hatefully of my Church and my God was what brought me back to my faith fully and completely. Thanks to them I now know the Church is right in teaching that homosexual acts, fornication, and other abuses of sexuality are gravely sinful and disordered, and led to the destruction of body and soul. There has been 2000 years of dialogue IT IS FINISHED. Thank you, I do enjoy your shows but, I do see the bug of modernism needs to be squashed! Virgin Most Powerful pray for us!
I just unsubscribed. I am a cradle Catholic who strayed into the Evangelical church and then Messianic Judaism. I live in Israel. My late, Messianic Jewish husband even studied in Orthodox kollel (yeshiva for married men) This is so off on so many levels, The guys have lost all credibility with me. I could almost hear St. Paul who wrote inspired by God the Holy Spirit so eloquently against this type of simplistic, sentimental syncretism in his beautiful and liberating Epistle to the Galatians weeping before the Throne of God as the nonsense played its way across the screen.
So, reading this comment inspired me to take a look into the Epistle to the Galatians, and I have read the entire thing. I haven’t the first clue of what you’re talking about. Paul does not seem to condemn “simplistic, sentimental” anything. He condemns works of the Ceremonial and Judicial Law, works of the flesh, and drawing Gentiles to circumcise themselves and follow the Old Covenant Laws. So, care to explain what “nonsense” you are referencing specifically?
But there isnot only the torah in common. There are the books of the prophets too. And the proverbs...and the sapience, and more until the last jewish book (maccabei 1&2) ; just a bit before Christ. And every book that is in the bible and is before Christ have to be and is jewish..so is the judaism B.C. in few words. And for who believe ..even the books after, evangelium letters, revelation have to be the judaism complete, and now we are only waiting for the promised end. There is so much in common, that sometimes i think the real judaism in the faith, is who accept Christ and his message. Becouse is even told in the word. Christ from Greek annointed. Is not a case Greek was the language used to wrote the new testament. Greek is the only language that can be used like ebraic too. Becouse the greek letters have numerical equivalence too, Messia come from ebraic language..it mean the same. For this many don't want call Christians with this word. Cause at the plural it mean annointeds. ...someone don't like this idea.

@sneksnekitsasnek they don’t hate Catholicism. I studied with them for years on end. They are God’s people. I absolutely believe that after everything I’ve seen. No proper Christian should ever speak ill of the Jewish people, because they have done exactly as commanded. They have remembered and kept the Torah throughout their history, despite everything that has happened to them. But they do not understand Catholicism, just as many catholics do not understand Judaism. I was born Catholic, but I studied Judaism for a long time, and coming back to the church, I see so many ways in how we came from Judaism. We are truly not that different. In mass, for example, we have an ark where we place the bread and wine, which is the Eucharist. Because as it says in the NT, Jesus is the Living Word. But the Jews have an ark as well in their altar, and inside they place the Torah scrolls aka the living Word.
They did not kill Jesus. The Romans did. The school of Judaism that called for Jesus’s death is long gone. Also, the Church’s official stance is that they are saved because they have Torah, and we are saved because of Jesus. Catholics should love their big brothers.
Jesus was Jewish and the Romans killed him. He was the gentile equivalent to the transition from old to new. He was seen by Jews as a Joseph Smith like entity. A false prophet whom even if they respected, would not follow. Both religions are a consolidated view of previous Pagan religions.
@@DakkogiRauru23 probably only a minority called for His death. The Roman army arrested, scourged and crucified Him. Probably He was, to the Roman soldiers just another Jewish prisoner. Many 1st century Jews were executed by the Roman army. From the AD60s onwards many Christians were also executed by the Romans under the Emperors Nero and Domitian [and in later centuries under other emperors until Diocletian in the early 4th century].
Father Rich, are you trying to lead Catholics to a synagogue? (Proverbs 26:11 As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly.) The Talmud Gittin 57a says that Jesus was a sorcerer and that he is burning in hot excrement in Hell as a consequence of idolatry. Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary are ethnic Jews, but most of the present day Jews are not. They are also not Jesus' followers ergo they have nothing in common with Jesus, not even ethnically. Even Shlomo Sand exploded the myth that present day Ashkenazi Jews/Israelis are Semitic by his book "The Invention of the Jewish People".

The Last Supper wasn’t a Seder Meal it’s as a “Passover Meal”. Seder Meals didn’t develop until the second century.

I always struggled with catholicism as I was raised as one and why we just were not converting to judiasm being that they were jewish. I really wanted to get to the fundementals and follow that.

As a Catholic I'm really confused and dismayed by what happened in this episode, particularly right around the 50:10 mark. The rabbi said, "There isn't a religion on this planet in which there aren't people who misrepresent what their religion is supposed to teach in order to say I am more right that you are" and the response from the Catholic hosts was apparent agreement.
Aren't we as Catholics bound to believe that Catholism is the one and only true religion, and that there is no salvation outside the Catholic Church?
If that is true, then don't Catholics have the ability to say we are more right than every other religion? Why didn't any of the hosts say that? Do they think it doesn't matter if one is Catholic or not to be saved or that Catholicism is just as good as any other religion?
Do the Jews refuse to accept jesus as the messiah yes but does this mean that they are also a path to salvation no but salvation does come from the Jewish religion. Dialogue does not mean that your faith is just as good as mine, it means we can learn where we stand with each other. The catholic church is the true church but all we can do is present those truths and pray that those who hear will accept them. I tried and failed at saying your faith is false, I just pissed everyone off and converted no one. The only best way to show people the truth is to be real be zealous in the catholic Faith and with a true sence that we are both human the only one who converts is the holy spirit but that only works until people lose there ignorance and hardheartedness

mn123456 as a Catholic we’re to be loving, of everyone. We have the fullness, of truth! But, salvation can come from outside, of the Catholic faith. The Catholic Chatechism teaches this. Jesus is the head of the Church, and he is the Judge. Honestly, all Christians whether they believe, or not are Catholic. They are to strive to be the Body of Christ, evangelize the Gospel (Universal Truth), and the Jewish people practice the Law, provided by God. We just accept the full “Truth”, of the Roman Rite. To say we are the only path, and you have no salvation, is to bring judgement, onto ones self. We are to be meek, and provide truth, in a loving manner. Remember that the Catholic Church was an OFFICIALLY sect within Judaism. If you read Acts 1 and you are familiar with Halakhah Law you will immediately notice that the Catholic Church is a legal entity WITHIN Judaism. If you read you will notice that there are 120 members in this synagogue. Why is this important? It is the exact number of persons in the Halakhah regulations to form a full fledged synagogue. Next according to Halakhah regulations there must be a beit din formed. We see that there is a beit din and it draws lots and Matthias a disciple is chosen to take over Judas bishopric (episkopen). So these the two of the three requirements are met. The third requirement is that there must be a nasi (prince, temporal) and ab ( father, spiritual) appointed. Curiously Peter is filling both these positions in this beit din. Why?
In 190 BC the Kohan Gadol fell into apostasy and beit din gadol cast a vote of no confidence splitting the two offices of the kohan gadol into the nasi and ab within the beit din gadol. However, in this new beit din which is actually a beit din gadol (70 disciples) Christ has placed His confidence in PEter and brought the two offices back together the way it is supposed to have been.
So is Judaism dead? No! It is now know as Catholicism. That is why everything we believe is so strange to Protestants because everything we believe is Judaism in origin, custom and practice.
Also the pope has both temporal and spiritual powers. Peter is the prince of the apostles and the pope (Pope meaning papa - meaning father) as you see even today the pope is both nasi and the ab in Catholicism.
We have not replaced the Jews. No way. They are God’s chosen, and it is still the case. We are one, but they have Torah and we have Jesus. We are all under the God of Israel. They’re our big brothers.

We have not replaced the Jews but have been grafted into their tree and this have 'become Jews' in a sense. Basically Judaism led to Catholicism as being the fulfillment of how God wants His Church/people to worship and live.

I greatly appreciate and love the Jewish people and the Jewish roots of Catholicism! I pray that we may all be one and share the fullness of faith in Jesus Christ one day. As for Fr. Pagano's comment regarding dialogue with communities that practice sinful acts not in accord with the Catholic teaching and do so in a prideful, willful and public way, I strongly disagree that any further dialogue is needed. Any person who persists in willful, public sin knowing that it is against the moral law of the Catholic Church should not be admitted to the Sacraments.
This has always been the position of the Church and there is no need to dialogue because this should not ever change. If it does, via magisterial approval that is wrong and contrary to Scripture, and Tradition, it can not stand. I feel that there has been more than enough dialogue on this topic in a public and communal sense. Any further dialogue is simply a distraction and a waste of time, stealing us away from our other Christian duties of prayer, sacrifice and charity. All sides should have a clear understanding of the position of the scriptures and the Catholic Church's teaching since it's beginning. This is not a secret and free for any one to learn and understand.
However, it is true, that person's who find themselves experiencing any temptation and /or fall in to sin of any kind should be able to receive counsel from the priest privately and be given the clear teaching of the Church with compassion and kindness to help this person to OVERCOME their sin. In the early Church the process of accompanying someone into The Church was a 3 year process in which the Catecumen was taught the Christian life and practice and was free to accept or reject it, prior to baptism, or any other sacramental participation. That is the time to accompany the INDIVIDUAL privately and personally. We should not be admitting anyone to the Sacraments if they are not willing to accept our faith and morals. We should not be building any bridges in this regard for any one who publicly states that their sin of choice is one they refuse to acknowledge as such and overcome. That is what is currently being entertained in the dialogue of today and it is wrong and uncharitable to these souls in real trouble. It is a misguided and false Mercy.
On a personal note: As a heterosexual woman, prior to my conversion to my Catholic faith I have had more gay friends in my life than straight ones. They were dear to me. I have a deep regret that I was not practicing my faith earlier in my life and I didn't have an good understanding of the Church's teaching on sexuality and the human person, marriage and family so I was not able to share this teaching with them in truth out of concern and love for them. It was the VILE comments that one gay friend made about the Catholic Church and Jesus specifically, before he knew I was Catholic ( I wasn't practicing at the time) that started me on a path to re-version. I wanted to know and understand the why The Church did not accept homosexuality and what the Scriptures had to say on the matter. Prior that moment I hadn't really given it much thought. At the time his comments hurt me deeply because I was accepting and loving of him and his partner and had never questioned his sexuality or him in any negative way...but to hear the way he and his partner spoke so hatefully of my Church and my God was what brought me back to my faith fully and completely. Thanks to them I now know the Church is right in teaching that homosexual acts, fornication, and other abuses of sexuality are gravely sinful and disordered, and led to the destruction of body and soul. There has been 2000 years of dialogue IT IS FINISHED. Thank you, I do enjoy your shows but, I do see the bug of modernism needs to be squashed! Virgin Most Powerful pray for us!

@sneksnekitsasnek they don’t hate Catholicism. I studied with them for years on end. They are God’s people. I absolutely believe that after everything I’ve seen. No proper Christian should ever speak ill of the Jewish people, because they have done exactly as commanded. They have remembered and kept the Torah throughout their history, despite everything that has happened to them. But they do not understand Catholicism, just as many catholics do not understand Judaism. I was born Catholic, but I studied Judaism for a long time, and coming back to the church, I see so many ways in how we came from Judaism. We are truly not that different. In mass, for example, we have an ark where we place the bread and wine, which is the Eucharist. Because as it says in the NT, Jesus is the Living Word. But the Jews have an ark as well in their altar, and inside they place the Torah scrolls aka the living Word.

They did not kill Jesus. The Romans did. The school of Judaism that called for Jesus’s death is long gone. Also, the Church’s official stance is that they are saved because they have Torah, and we are saved because of Jesus. Catholics should love their big brothers.
Jesus was Jewish and the Romans killed him. He was the gentile equivalent to the transition from old to new. He was seen by Jews as a Joseph Smith like entity. A false prophet whom even if they respected, would not follow. Both religions are a consolidated view of previous Pagan religions.

Many 1st century Jews were executed by the Roman army. From the AD60s onwards many Christians were also executed by the Romans under the Emperors Nero and Domitian [and in later centuries under other emperors until Diocletian in the early 4th century].

The Talmud Gittin 57a says that Jesus was a sorcerer and that he is burning in hot excrement in Hell as a consequence of idolatry. Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary are ethnic Jews, but most of the present day Jews are not. They are also not Jesus' followers ergo they have nothing in common with Jesus, not even ethnically. Even Shlomo Sand exploded the myth that present day Ashkenazi Jews/Israelis are Semitic by his book "The Invention of the Jewish People".
