    People often go by bodybuilding principals for their calves not realizing the muscle fiber types that dominate the calves which is why I believe loaded carries of all kinds as well as landmine training on your toes will build much bigger calves more quickly but this video isn't about building the size. I just know people will make the joke that dad's have calves fat men have calves and forget that strongman competitors have calves so I just wanted to point out the value of carrying heavy things in a wide variety of styles

    Is it true that training calves will stiffen up your Achilles tendon which will make you less elastic? I always hear this from sprint coaches

    • @F-Tier_Physique
      @F-Tier_Physique ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No. Doing full range of motion with a good stretch at the bottom will make you more elastic and faster. A full ROM seated or standing calf raise is basically a weighted stretch for the muscle and tendon. I have 3 Achilles ruptures prior to lifting, they all came from overuse(running too much and not training any calves). After rupturing my Achilles for the third time I actually started lifting and training calves, I am now faster than I ever was. Strength training makes you faster and more resilient, anything else is pure bullshit.

    Small calves in general means long tendon and mean explosive power , look horse frog cricket and for sure cats or other animal who are powerful or athletic , the key is to have powerfull legs and glutes hips and small calves with big tendon and I promise u my calves are skinny but nobody with big calves are agile and explosive like us, but yes that more fragile , and it’s always like that , a powerfull race bike or car will be more fragile than a regular car , big cats are very powerfull and athletic but they can be hurt more easily than hyena for exemple

    Why then do the fastest sprinters and highest jusmpers proportionally have very small calves ?

    • @Gojimaru

      Because they have very long ligaments in proportion to their muscle bellies. And long ligaments store more energy. Like an elastic band.

      Both sprinters and jumpers need to be as light as possible, so they are skinny in general. And explosive athletes tend to rely on their achilles tendon when moving, which is the opposite of what you want to do for calf growth. The achilles tendon is one of the strongest tendons in the body.

    Manny Pacquiao has bigger calves at 130 lb and a lot of 250 lb meathead men. He jump ropes, works angles in the boxing ring and sprints . Punching a heavy bag with forward velocity is one of the best things for any athlete but the problem most of these muscle heads that lift a ton of weight is they have no punching power and it look like fool standing in front of a heavy bag so it's never talked about...
