    I put the Method MR703 Bead Grip wheels on my GX 550 Overtrail with Toyo Open Country AT III 35" tires. I'll never go back to standard wheels. They are lighter than bead lock, legal everywhere and perfect for everything but the toughest competition off-roading. I love them.

      @@OutdoorAuto: I love it. I have a buddy that got the Land Cruiser 1958 at about the same time and they are both great trucks. The GX has the twin turbo 6 while the LC has a hybrid single turbo 4 and it enjoys much better mileage. The advantage of building out the LC is that accessories are coming to market much faster since they sell a lot more LC's than GX's. But the GX 550 Overtrail is a dream to drive and I have absolutely no regrets. So far I've added a Westcott Designs Preload Collar lift, Toyo Open Country AT III 35x12.5x17 tires with Method bead grips wheels, Westcott full length roof rack, Lexus/LC rock rails and a PPF wrap. I'm waiting for bumpers, beefier rock rails, and a GX 550 specific suspension system to be developed. But with the preload collar lift and 35's it's capable of doing a lot of wheeling. The tires brought my ground clearance from 8.9" to 10.5". I'm not sure how much the lift improved the 26º factory approach angle. I'm having a drawer system with sleeping platform built now and I'm taking it to Moab for a week in October to shake it down "slick rock style"!

      @OutdoorAuto So many of the videos I watched months ago all "talked" about the benefits of the BeadGrip technology, and a few even showed the trucks off roading with supposedly very low psi in the tires, but this can't be verified simply by trusting the truthfulness of the video. Specially what I liked and appreciated about your video is the fact that you "showed" exactly how difficult it is to remove the tire from the wheel. The truthfulness of your video is never in question because once the first bead is broken, you can plainly see that there’s no air pressure holding the tire in place and the remaining bead is still difficult to remove.Thank you for producing such great and truly informative videos. I personally really appreciate it.

    I have method bead grips on my Polaris Rzr. They hold on great. Had one tire get a massive sidewall puncture about 20 miles from the trailer and had to drive on a completely flat tire. Rim was fine and still had to fight to get the tire off the rim. Now, 3 of the 4 have and pretty good rock rash along the outside rim edge and i have had to use some bead sealant to stop air leaks. Don't necessarily thing it is an issue with rims as i have abused the rims and my buddy's tire machine can be a little rough on the beads of the tires. Still going to get them on my jeep.

    I have the 703 beadgrips, and love them. I sheard off a valve stem a few weeks ago during a charity off-road run and two people looked at the flat tire and just declared to the rest of the group that I had de-beaded a tire. Haad to have been debeaded. No way a non-beadlock would still be on the rim.
    Got the tire swapped out with my spare and moved to a safe spot to work on the flat and another guy comes over and starts stomping on the sidewall. I tell him that's not going to work. "I do this all the time at work. If this isn't a beadlock it'll come off". So I let him wear himself out then I used a high lift to break the bead.
    The only thing I don't like about them is the valve stem placement. I don't know a lot about wheel construction but moving the valve away from the lip and angling it more perpendicular to the rim might have made a difference in my situation.

    Thanks for the video. I have actually thought about these wheels. When you guys were snow wheeling, the air pressure went down due to the temperature, not the elevation change (Gay-Lussac's Law). Boyle’s Law states a gas volume increases with less pressure. If the temperature remained the same your tire pressure should have increased the higher you went. The temperature was impacting your tire pressure more than the increased elevation. Sorry, geeked out a little bit.

    Ive got 703s. Had them at 9psi in soft soft sand. Some sand got stuck under the bead, made it a slow leak. After 2 hours of stopping and pumping them up every 15 minutes, they came good and stopped leaking. After 3 days of holding pressure and over 1000kms of driving woke up and it was flat again. Turns out the bead grip design is goid at holding sand in them. Not blaming the rims at all, take from thos what you will. Just sharing my experience.

    • @OutdoorAuto
      @OutdoorAuto  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is kinda two ways to look at it... if you stay above 18-20 psi and pair that with sensible driving you are fine with pretty much any wheel... so no need for bead grips. Where they can still come into play is if you ever get stuck... being able to air down to single digits a lot of times is enough to be able to get unstuck so in that case they can still be nice to have for emergencies... but definitely not necessary for your everyday use. As far as weight they are allow wheels and run really light compared to most stock rims.

      @@OutdoorAuto I remember you mentioning that you had ran the MT BB's before, so I figured you'd be able to answer that. But I'm still curious as to why others have had issues. (It was a while back, so I don't remember which videos they were.)

      @@OutdoorAuto Did you run the AT or MT? Maybe there is a difference in bead width. Also some sizes of MTs are being phased out, maybe it's a fix for the seating issue

    If you lose a bead with these on the trail, how easy is it to get them back on?

    • @OutdoorAuto
      @OutdoorAuto  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have actually never lost a bead on a trail with these... but I have changed a lot of tires with them... you can always use the starter fluid trick/fire trick to seat them super fast... definitely works... but because of how gradual the middle slopes it holds air pretty easy past the bead and bead hump... biggest issue is to fully reseat it sometimes you have to air it up to around 50 psi and then air back down to your running psi.

      I was able to get a 35” E load KO2 back on the bead with and arb single compressor, took about 35 psi. Felt odd to air up and right back down again 😂

    I hear it destroys your tire if you pull them off.

      I think some of it may depend on the tire and manufacturer. I am on my third set of Yokohama MTs and have had the beads get damaged on removal.

    Different tires on rims. Different bead seat on tire. Not a fair comparison

      I have been really impressed with them in some pretty crazy hits while snow wheeling. I hit a snow bank going sideways last year at 1 PSI and I couldn’t believe they held.

    I was watching another youtuber who had Bead grip wheels. The first day he went wheeling with it, the tire came off the beads. I would just save up and get real bead locks if you guys really need it.

    • @OutdoorAuto
      @OutdoorAuto  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Bead aren't DOT approved.. so they really aren't an alternative to Bead Grips.... its not like you just "save up" and get something else... one you have to trailer your vehicle everywhere... the other you still can use your vehicle as a daily. On top of that... 1 guy debeading a tire, is still just one guy debeading a tire... fact still remains... they are a huge upgrade to normal wheels.

  • @Shakshuka69
    @Shakshuka69 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Meh. Even real beadlocks will debead under the right circumstances if they're only locked on the outer side. It's an improvement, but I wouldn't gamble on it at very low psi more than a regular old wheel.

    I disagree with this video as he didnt even try to remove it the same way, as a guy that did tires for 10+ years it looked to me like it would have came off in the same amount of times. By showing each removed differently you can be 100%.......

    • @OutdoorAuto
      @OutdoorAuto  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      😂… I change them differently because the other way doesn’t work on bead grips… but by all means assume you know more when you have never even used them.
