Well done, huge congrats. I saw you at the start.
Unfortunately my race ended quickly with a migraine and sickness after Lizard and I timed out at CP1. Really upset as I always carry my migraine medication and somehow it wasn't in my bag. It was so warm at Coverack compared to HQ, that I changed some clothes and reckon it must have flicked out out of my bag :(
Oh mate! Sorry to hear how your race ended, that sounds bloody awful. I also suffer with migraines and sometimes get the visual ones (usually during high physical intensities and especially when the brightness of head torches are involved) so one of my fears is this happening to me during a race and I’m sorry to hear that similar symptoms brought an end to your day! Well done for making it to the starting line.. just that takes massive balls ❤️ Also, if you’re interested in a running coach, I’m looking for clients 👊🏽
Well done, appreciate you documenting the journey
Thanks so much mate ❤️ It took everything this one 🙈🔥
Amazing upload buddy! Kudos for filming it too! I don’t think I could cope with filming and being in a race 😂 🙌🏻
Cheers Gary! I definitely have a new found respect for TH-camrs (youtube.com/@SarahPlace /@BenParkes, youtube.com/@Run4Adventure, @ryannguk, youtube.com/@FilmMyRun, @CotswoldTrailRunner & many more) who've ran this BRUTAL race and somehow managed to film so much of it 🤣👏🏼 For me, after about mile 17 the camera didn't come out very often 🙈
Epic effort massive well done.....
Thanks Steven! I’m definitely hungry for that Gold buckle now 🙈
Bro thank you for the excellent review. And proud for representing BTR. Watching from the United States.
Top man! Thanks for dropping a comment, it’s an absolute pleasure to represent BTR 🔥I’d love to visit the states one day for one of their 100+ racing events.. the ultra community looks great over there
Cracking vid. Really charts the ups and downs. Well done for managing the problems and sticking to the task. Massive achievement 👊 I had similar scene getting in to bed on Saturday night. Not pleasant, but worth it!
Cheers Ryan! I just saw your Church Cove video, funny to think we were both vlogging at the exact same time talking about how’d we’d get our knees strapped up 🤣 Cheers for the kind comments, I learnt a lot and am definitely looking forward to my second attempt for a different shade of buckle 👊🏽 Hahaha, yeah, I promised myself the dream during this run “soon I’ll be all cosy in my hotel” but it was quite the scene.. about 2 hours sleep until I woke up in a hot sweat of pain 🤭 Arc 2025 on the cards for you?
@@ActiveIdeas getting round at all with zero hill training is pretty impressive, so hopefully some of that will propel you to a gold buckle if you do go back. Nah, I’ve got what I wanted from the Arc for the time being. Absolutely love the race and the coast path though so expect I’ll give it another crack down the line. Just not next year; need a break from the winter training cycle and massive time commitment! So I’ll probably crew or volunteer next year. Hopefully see you out there
Well done Kingsley, awesome running, well done, its was a challenging day and a half out there but completely worth it.
You legend Stuart! Thanks for the kind words 🔥 Definitely a challenging 33 hours out there but like you said.. I’d do it alll over again 😍
Loved this video. Well done 👏
You’re an absolute legend ❤️ Thanks for leaving a comment!! Maybe I can film your experience at backyard? 🙈
Ha no way, that’s me in the grey next to you at the start!
Haha! Love this, you made the cut! 😜 How did you find the race!? Just checked open tracking, you had a fantastic result! Also.. the go pro.. is a vlog coming?
Great video and really informative 👍 💯 well done for a super achievement 😎
Appreciate that massively mate! Glad it was informative.. the question is, what now!? 🙈 I need the next goal 😎
Well done guys you are 👏
Thanks Tom ❤️🔥 Onto the next one
well done, it didn't't came easily...
Cheers mate! Really had to battle for this one 👊🏽
Would be nice a recap on the logistics, gear, nutrition, etc
Videos filmed & coming in a few days are nutrition, and recovery. What sorts of topics would you like to see in a logistic video? 🌟
@ActiveIdeas the gear choices and why, shoes, socks changes, Lub usage, what to carry in the pack, what goes in to your mind when deciding these things. Cheers
@LuiisSiilvaa lube usage!?! 😱🤣 I joke, that sounds good, thanks for the ideas 💡 I’ll do it
Bro, what a model or models of watches you've used in this race? I guess Suunto Race and Polar Vantage v3 maybe?)) What do you think after this hard test? And in general after all this time which you have This watches, first of wall Suunto Race? What is your favorite universal overall watches right now? I'm still thinking about fenix 7s.
So I packed the Suunto Vertical as my main watch and in my kit bag I also had the Race and a Polar Grit X Pro as back ups. I chose the Vertical for its battery life, map accuracy and ruggedness.
Whilst I love the Vertical, this hard test exposed some of the flaws with the Suunto. Firstly, I was scared that I might have downloaded the wrong map region. The OCD side of me wanted to be able to physically check on the watch that the maps were working but you can only zoom out to 2km and when you load up a course the watch still doesn’t automatically show you how to get to the start. I then turned off wrist based HR to maximise battery life.. but when I started the event the watch glitched and put HR on anyway. Lastly it did struggle with 100 miles worth of GPX.. it seemed to offer me a simplified version rather than follow every curve of the trail if that makes sense. Funnily.. this could all be fixed in a software update.. I just hope that Suunto do it ❤️
Things I loved.. the Vertical looks sick! Not only cosmetically but when I put it on I feel like I’m about to do business out on the trails 🔥 It’s super tough and no matter how many rocks and cliffs I bash this thing on, I can’t scratch it. GPS accuracy (when the GPX works) is unreal for navigating! The battery life was the real showcase. For the Arc of attrition I ran for 34 hours with the maps screen on and HR tracking (against my will) with phone notifications.. I finished the race with 32% 🤯
Anyways.. hope you enjoyed the read and any questions just reply to this comment 🌟
In hindsight, would you have gone with your Fenix 7 on this one or generally a Garmin over Suunto?
That said, the mapping issues you experienced could’ve been an anomaly.
@JasonRaneses as you’ve said.. the issues could have been an anomaly since I’ve never experienced it before with Suunto. And I’ve seen Garmin GPS issues on my 7 pro. For the Spine I used to watches on my wrist and tbh.. so in hindsight, I wish I’d done the same for this. Taken at least two watches so that when one poops its self, I can check the other 🙈
