  • I signed up for my first 100 mile ultramarathon race!! It took a lot of physiotherapy and rehab to strengthen my ankle but I finally felt confident enough to go for it (: The last few months of running have not at all been what I’d hoped for, but difficulty only makes you stronger.

      I needed this so badly!!! This happened to me last week. I did a team relay event. I had done the distance training in running but the event was straight hiking in the mountains, it was below freezing, my second leg of the race was also at midnight and i was so scared. I was incredibly nervous, marathon runners were coming back and saying it was one of the hardest theyve done and that was during the day.The shock on my body was crazy and I got through the hardest part of my second leg, had two miles and couldn't finish. The shame, guilt and embarrassment i felt was overwhelming. I was crying on my way home and I thought maybe this is your sign you can't do this stuff. I'm also persistent and stubborn like you in my ambitions and quickly dismissed that. I know I will get it in the future and I know you will too.
      I just wanted to let you know this video has been incredibly inspiring to me and it could not have been at a better time.

    I know you would have wanted to complete the race but by failing 3 times you have given all of your 1.66 million subscribers the will to get up and try again no matter how hard things get. The courage you have shown to keep trying, experiencing setbacks, and to share all of it with us is truly commendable. This message was stronger than any message you could have shared if you had succeeded (although I know you would have liked to - and you will soon!). Thanks for inspiring us all.       this!! I skipped my olympic weightlifting training session today cause it has just not been going well and I am really stressed out for my competition next Friday. I couldn't find any motivation to go through with it today, cause I felt like I would just fail every lift. Seeing Natacha struggle so much, but still enjoy every moment of each re-try with a big smile on her face was incredibly motivational!

    I cannot thank you enough for showing these “failures,” it means so much to those of us struggling along as well. To show the road to the achievement in all its low points illustrates the whole point of distance running in the first place. These of course aren’t failures, they are part of the improvement and learning along the way, and many of us need to see this and not just the finish line. Keep up the great work, the goal is within reach.

      As someone who also had to drop out of a race in Oct and is currently rehabing a sprained ankle on the same foot as her I cannot agree more with you! Seeing this is just so motivating in ways I can't even explain. Love Nat so much for everything she does.

    Choosing to DNF in a race is the absolute bravest thing you can do! And the fact that you still ran a 50 miler, 80+ miler, and another 50 miler within a couple months of each other... You're a massive inspiration, and I can only assume the running gods have something great in store for you.

    I know that female athletes train and compete regardless of their cycle but I just wanna say, the fact that you did the first two while on your period is already beyond spectacular! It was so inspiring to watch your perseverance even if it didn't go the way you wanted. And I'm sure you're gonna get it the next time.

      @@jamielamer2696 ah honestly I think it actually is in easier to do when the date and time is out of my hands, you know? the event is fixed and I've spent a few weeks periodising my training for that specific day, so psychologically it's like I'm committed to that moment and have something worth pushing through the discomfort for. I'm the same as you otherwise where without a strong reason to move, I'm gonna just minimise the discomfort and take it easy in bed!! hopefully that makes some sense 😂

    100% you made the right call. As someone who lives in a very cold country, it’s the thing we had drilled into us as kids: when you start shivering, get inside. ASAP. Especially if you’re wet. If you were shivering and not able to get dry clothes on and warm up a bit, you could have ended up with hypothermia. Also, I was so nervous watching you run in the wet in the dark. The last thing you needed was to slip and twist your ankle AGAIN. Every time you attempt this goal, you’re learning so much, you’re building up a wealth of knowledge and experience. You will absolutely NAIL this one, Natacha. So long as you want to, you will do it. Mario is such a pet. The hair!!! Classic. Was so excited to see you’d uploaded. Always love to hear what you’ve been up to. Sending you a pixel hug and lots of love. You never cease to inspire.

      Ive been going through that myself. I want to change my career from Software engineering to become a firefighter. Lost 35 pounds and started training a lot, then I twisted my ankle and couldnt attend the entrance test. Then it got a bit better and I took the next test but failed in 4 / 12 disciplines. Ive come a long way since last year but it wasnt enough. But I will keep training and build more muscle and try again next year!

    Girl I honestly think this video is even more of an "achievement" then actually finishing the 100k! First of all it shows your mindset and willpower to push through BUT also to be a REAL ATHLETE and actually LISTEN to your body, knowing when 'enough is enough'! ❤ Showing this is helping so many others instead of always all the 'perfect' videos you see on here!
    Anyways girl if you still wish to complete the 100k then go for it, but remember you don't have to do this or any kind of 'challenges' for us! Only do this for YOU and your community will always support you in any way possible ❤❤❤

    Natacha - I was at Canal Corridor and Tunnel Hill. In Tunnel Hill, we were near each other for miles 25-50. You were super cheerful and supportive of all the other runners. Loved your spirit out there. I saw you start cruising again around mile 45, and when I got to mile 50 a few minutes after you, you were stretching just past the finish line - I wish I had known you were going for 100 miles...we'd have gotten you to that finish. Keep getting after it! You'll learn from each one. I failed in my first 2 100 mile attempts and I've not completed 40 of them. Of my 5 I did not complete, 4 of them are Tunnel Hill - and this year was my first Tunnel Hill 100 mile finish. I found the key was to not stop at the start area where my car was...and never go into those super warm tents - people go into those warm tents and never come back. You looked really strong going into mile 50 - you've got the ability to finish one, and I'd bet on you being able to finish a 200+ miler too! Get another one on your schedule - you'll crush it!

    Honestly, it’s really nice to see someone actually DNF. A lot of people wouldn’t show that part. These races are tough and so many people try and DNF and it’s just part of it.
    You are still inspiring and we still want to see the journey.

      What kind of training goes into these ultramarathons? I trained and did one marathon years ago. The training itself was difficult. Must be really consuming to be able to train for a 50+ marathon.

    Girl you've entered 3 ultramarathons, that is nowhere near talking about something with no action! You should be so proud of yourself - as a competitive athlete it's so relatable and so helpful to see the ups and downs with mental and physical states and dealing with injuries and inspiring to see you push your body but knowing when to stop and coming back stronger. Can't wait to see you smash it when you get the 100 mile goal :)

    So grateful and excited to see awareness for Endo growing!!
    I had no clue that it even existed until I met my wife in 2015.
    The next 6 years was filled with tons of pain, tons of medication, a few surgeries, and anything in between to gain relief.
    After about the 6th different OB, we found a routine that fit her body and supressed her pain so she could have a normal life.
    We are now 4 months pregnant with all green lights across the board for a healthy pregnancy.
    We absolutely could not be more excited and ready to SHOUT that there is life after ENDO and there is a chance to find relief after years of struggle.

      My sister has endo do you think you could tell me what helped your wife and I could tell my sister? She has already had one surgery.

      @jessieliana Finding a doctor that listens to you and has knowledge of endo is crucial. Limiting foods and drinks that aggravate endo (just basic research). My wife found a birth control that worked for her and she always skipped the sugar pills, causing her to skip her period. That was a game changer for her. That doesn't work for everyone, but it gave her a much better quality of life. She stopped taking the birth control when we started trying again. She had a few hard months during her cycle, but nothing like she had experienced in the passed.

    "I wonder what Natcha's doing" entered my mind more often than the Roman Empire... and to now see how committed youve been to reaching your goal and doing the hard work everyone usually ignores (rehab) gives me motivation to sort out my niggles and get running properly again. I felt angry and sad watching you having to stop 3 times, but I know you were probably way more angry and sad in those moments and still came out of it with motivation and positivity. Way to keep at it, it will make the end result so much sweeter! Allez allez allez!

    Natacha, because of your prep videos for the 100 miles, I was inspired to see if you could spend 3 hours in the gym running/cycling to train cardio, I could spend 30min, which turned into an hour which turned into 1h30, which turned into fuck it I’m doing my first half marathon which I completed with 3 months of training at 2h28m!! I’m pushing for a full next year now

    The sheer willpower this takes. To go through most of an ultramarathon three times. To train and prepare and make so much space for it in your life three times.     Seeing you recover from injuries is so motivating. I always feel devastated when I get an injury and I get so anxious I will never be able to run again. But seeing this made me confident my body can recover. If you can run 100 miles, I can certainly run a marathon next year in Paris

      hey beautiful 🦋 I totally get that. Your body has incredible power to heal: in my last couple of injuries I've worked with physios (and also an osteopath who was recommended by my physios when I had a particular back problem) and found that finding specialists who you trust can be transformative. My number one rec is always to find a physio you trust (even just one visit is amazing, they'll guide you on how to recover)! I'm so confident in you, and maybe I'll see you in Paris! My family want to run Paris next year!

    I gasped out loud when your ankle twisted. 😨 I'm so sorry that happened but I'm so thankful you listened to your body, like always, and bowed out of the race to keep yourself safe and healthy. You are such an inspiration to me, perhaps even more when doing something like that. I think sometimes (or at least for some of us) it's so much easier to push up to a breaking point rather than find the truest strength: Taking care of ourselves and putting ourselves first.     Stopping was 100% the right call, without a doubt in my mind. Shivering uncontrollably, while being drenched, without an opportunity to get dry or warm, not thinking straight, being exhausted (which reduces your ability to keep warm)... you were already experiencing quite advanced hypothermia, and that's a life-threatening emergency. Thank you for this video, it's so inspiring to follow your highs and lows, and also seeing you genuinely enjoying and learning from the journey. It's almost making me want to go running again... :)

    Your perseverance is so much more inspiring than to do ONE race. The fact of showing the process of different conditions (rain and heat), injuries, your period, stomach issues... it shows how most of us would probably experience a race. That it won't be the first one, but after multiple attempts. You continue to run, to go through healing, revisit, rehab, and adjustments allow us to see how the process truly is AND TO KEEP GOING. You inspire me so much. Keep being you, girl! Every "failed" race is not a failure but a lesson and even more so "training" for the ultimate WIN!

    im super impressed that you keep trying. many years ago i was training for my first marathon. and i loved running so much. i have cptsd and bipolar and lots of anxity. and running really helped with the symptoms. but 3 weeks before the run i got runners knees and wasent able to run at all. i cryed my eyes out. and unfortunaly i have devoloped other illnesses since, that at one point, made me bedbound for a year. im now working my self up, im out of the bed and the wheelchair. and i can take long walks. i miss running so much and it was a joy following your journey. you are awsome!!!

    As a runner myself I LOVED to see this. This was way more inspirationnal than making a video about successfully finishing one ( altough I just know that you will get there!). You taught us about trials and errors, and perseverence and this is the real face of sport. As long as you get up and continue to try you are winning!

That itself is a huge accomplishment and shows your strength & the superpowers you've built up both physically and mentally. During each of your narrations/explanations of why you decided to DNF I was nodding along with you. You 1000% made the right call to support your physical and mental health.     I just ran my first marathon and was left not being able run even 500m due to referred pain from my calf. It’s been very frustrating going from running long distance to not being able to run at all.. Watching this made me so emotional and was so inspiring because it takes so much strength to respect what our bodies are telling us and to know when to step back! You are truly inspiring!

    I am really never compelled to comment. But I was (am) struggling through a tough fitness/body image/ mental health time. I can't seem to lose the postpartum weight, I am very tired, and overwhelmed with work. But then I saw you getting your butt to a race and filming it and putting it here and I don't know- I think it gave me hope? If she can do that, I can do my thing. No problem. Just do it.     You literally give me so much motivation, after every single one of your videos I feel like I can do anything. The fact that you tried to do this marathon 3 times is just crazy to me. Physical part of this kind of training is undoubtedly exhausting but I think that the mental part is not easier at all. AND YOU DECIDED TO GO TROUGH THIS 3 TIMES. And on top of that you’re always so relatable, not pretending to be okay even though you’re not and not being super dramatic and pompous at the same time. You’re just super real and yourself which is soooo rare nowadays🥰

    honestly Natacha there is no one that inspire me more than you. was terrified of going to the gym by myself but I kept thinking of how fun you made exercise look and now I go 3-4 times a week and I'm loving it so much! next goal is running a half marathon next year! sending you lots of love, you literally have had such a positive impact on my life through your videos

    I haven't done a marathon yet and I still think that a running 5km it's hard. Congrats for running 50 miles!!     Natacha, your ability to have major curveballs thrown your way and come back stronger and even more determined is just a testament to your drive and character. It is so incredible to watch you work towards these massive goals you have and still find the positive in tough situations.     I am so damn proud of you! You say you don’t like talking about something without action, but every minute of what you showed us was months of action and moving towards your goal, regardless of if you have hit it yet or not.     I can't think of one reason to be dissapointed about this. The distances you ran, the mentality you applied, the absolute masterpiece of power and fitness which is your body is only some of the multiple reasons I am proud of you and why you should be so incredibly proud of yourself. When you do something for so long and surround yourself with people doing the same thing (running the ultramarathon) you forget how incredibly outrageous, astounding and impressive it is what you did. My goodness, it feels like you are missing the point entirely (I mean this in a respectful and sincere way). You are hands down the most impressive athlete I have encountered. You can do it all! Thank you for being such an inspiration. Thank you for trying again and again. That is the most impressive and courageous thing any person could do. You absolutely did not fail. You perservered.

    This video means so much to me. I sprained my ankle about 5 months ago and im still in rehabilitation. It feels like it will never get better but seeing this has giving me hope that I will be back to sport soon!
