First tip: You can place spikes on top of ground cover like slime and chrysalis, which might increase spawn rate rather than having non-spawnable tiles; the traps atop them might negate the spawn surface, but I keep seeing enemies spawning on the hive spikes when digging around, so it might be a superior choice of spike for that reason, even if it ends up taking longer. Second tip: Larva also hate light and will aggro on torches placed within their reachable range, so if you surround a torch with traps, they'll rush at it and kill themselves. very useful. Adjacent tip: Larva sacks only really burst open when aggro'd, and afterwards can be harvested for fiber and the fiber plant seeds as well, so there's added benefit to that farm! Third tip: Large rooms don't seem to spawn enemies quicker regardless of if you're in the area or not (I have several 300+ tile rooms I've been experimenting with); it does increase the spawn cap for the area, however, so you can get far more enemies spawning over time than with a smaller area.
@@xiawv Not unless they are led to attack them; they will not attack fences on their own, at least at the time I wrote the original comment. Sorry for the late reply but I got no notice of your comment.
@@vaynemarksyou6213 I'm pretty sure that it only works within your sphere of loading, but that's off a foggy remembrance and it could have been changed in the months since.
you can improve the spawn rate by placing the ground slime under the spikes and for the larva you can reduce the number of spikes and concentrate the loot in one area by having a spiked bridge with a lightsource on one side and the farm on the other, make sure that the spiked brige is long enough and remove any other closeby lightsource
LOL, Your map view was crazy!!! I haven't played the game that much, maybe 10-12 hours and started over about 3-4 times. but I am super excited to get back at this. The game is amazing and your tutorials are extremely helpful. Thank you again for all the help in this amazing game!!
I am so glad I decided to save the ground slime. I was hoping the game would let you turn them into slime (which already makes a lot of sense). I'm still towards the early game, thank you very much for this video! My main question is how you aren't taking damage from those spike traps, unless self crafted ones don't hurt the player?
@@MoreMediocreMilton Not quite correct; they don't trigger on you, but if you're standing on one when it triggers, it will damage you (found that out when a larva walked onto the trap I was leading it onto and the spike hit me as well as it).
I can't remember if you mentioned it or it was missed, but at least blue slimes later as well as some of the other basic drops are used for the boss scanners. Very important to stockpile those later on.
Question/Idea: Why not put them together? All the time out in the world, you tend to see monsters fighting each other. There are the larva and the larva hunters, the poison slimes and the mold creatures and more. If you placed the three you demonstrated here so that all the various mobs spawned into the same area, would they not only die to the spikes, but fight and kill each other? I often come across these areas just packed with drops with no enemies in sight, only to find one zone of one type of mob to one side, and another zone with another type of mob on the other, indicating they're constantly fighting each other. I wonder if that natural urge to fight could be exploited somehow. Also, is it possible to create darkling farms? Can you set things up so they're in an area, fighting other mobs and getting killed by traps, then farm the results? I'd imagine you'd need an area with a moat and an outer wall so they couldn't see you to attack you at least.
Funny how the combat seems so simple but death can occur so quickly. I’ve gone from everything is fine to oh no I’m in trouble very quickly so many times 🤣
This does give me some ideas. I've just been building up to the point of getting decent tin resources. I should be able to craft some of the benches from iron table too soon.
I have copied this, thanks for the idea, it looks great but I am having issues getting them to spawn? I've had it for a day now and I have gotten like 2 slimes only. A few more of the lava ones but not many. Is there anything that can prevent them spawning? I really don't understand why it doesn't work for me
With the Larva farm, are you 100% sure that the open pods spawn in more mobs? So far i have been removing the pods since if more pods spawn and you let them hatch you get more mob drops.
I tried making these style farms, maybe one block smaller lengthwise, and i let it go for about 3 hours. Came back to about 4 slime, 2 larva meat, and the poison slime farm Didn’t spawn anything. Is there something I might have done wrong?
I have spread mine out and they seem to spawn more mobs. I think (not 100% sure) there is a limit to mobs spawning in a certain radius so having them further apart should help.
@@MoreMediocreMilton Thanks! It looks like that was exactly the problem, I moved everything apart by about 5 blocks and everything is working much better now.
Thx for tutorial, but i have one problem. It´s not working very well for me. My spawning rate is like a one larva per one meteor crush into earth :D, there´s some additional rules about spawning mobs? Like a distance from core? Or distance your character from mob spawner? Thx for any tips :)

I haven’t tried that yet because if the tentacles spawn they’ll snipe you when you walk by and they don’t move so spike traps won’t kill them.
