I have a video coming out Wednesday where I show 2 specific farm builds using this technique and show off their loot. I didn't want to add it to this video as it would have more than doubled the length of the video.
I have this game on PC and just did the math to find my spawn cells which worked out well, thankfully. This video did help me understand the spawn mechanics for the game a lot better, appreciate that and the information on amounts of spawn tiles you use. For starting out as a new player as of this weekend, I only placed strips of about 7 spawn tiles in 6 cells as I didn't have much at the time. I do have a lot more as of today and look forward to expanding each cell. As chance would have it, I kept the mushroom and stone moss tiles in separate cells as I was afraid of what might happen should the huge mobs spawn in a mixed farm. Looking forward to the next video as I really want to get more automated than spike traps and mobs killing each other slowly.
Takes me to wonder how many people will lose their brain cells designing an efficient mob farm Additionally: best to separate crystal crust from the others in an active farm as mimites will destroy moss/fungal soils
Your channel is very good. I'm from Brazil, your tips are very good. I wanted to participate, but I'm from South America... Even so, thank you for the content, your videos are very well made. I bet it's a lot of work.
@@DakonsMadhouse I play on PC. I'm glad I can participate. #mad4ck #PC Do you know if the mods are working again? I use several, such as automatic door opening, automatic fishing, among others.
My testing shows turrets, radiation, and wall/void collision don’t work reliably for mobs that are too far offscreen, so be ready to repair your mob farm if you go too far away without teleporting in and out
Worth noting that the wiki list for the new mobs’ drops are incomplete: the Crystal enemies can drop crystal crust. I’ve gotten a few dozen from my mob farm.
Good video. I'm questioning why you wouldn't intentionally offset 16x16 sections by 8 so they can be part of 4 spawn cells at once, each with the different floor types?
Hi i made a docile caveling farm but those suckers keep running around on the conveyors like crazy and never going to the kill zone. Any way to fix that?
I put only "Clay moss" in a farm, and a "Caveling Brute" and "Caveling" spawned in it, did I do something wrong ? Aren't they supposed to spawn only with "Stone Moss" ?
I have built the farm you mentioned in 8:40 but I find that the monsters destroy the flooring and walls. It may be the giant mushrooms. What do you suggest?
the mimites can do a lot of damage it turns out. I haven't had them damage conveyors but they do break walls. Ive had them damage temple walls but so far they haven't broken the temple walls...but I've seen them damage them. Might want to separate out the crystal crusts and see if that helps.
having trouble with some of the mobs braking the spawn tiles don't know which one it is any help would be nice. i have conveyers with spikes at bottom middle
the only mobs that break spawn tiles once you have conveyors active are caveling brutes. Do you have any stone moss in your main base? Mimites will break the spawn tiles until conveyors are placed on top then as far as I can tell they lose the ability to break ground tiles. You could try separating your crystal crust to its own farm just in case. Its worth noting that the mobs drop spawn tiles as part of their loot table. So just to make sure, are you sure they're breaking the tiles and its not just loot?
@ yea I thought it was drops too but I pulled the conveyers up the there were tiles missing. I changed the way the conveyors push them and it seems to be working now
@@TNinja0 As far as I know rotating already placed objects isn't possible anymore. The devs changed how the behavior of that worked during early access. So I would check the date of any video that rotates objects already placed. Chances are they're just old.
So, I have a question for a farm that I'm trying to design. Putting bels/spikes over the moss reduces the chance for mobs to spawn? I'm doing a "docile" automated mob farm but the production is really lacking compared to the active mob farm that I have.
belts and spikes have no effect on mob spawn. Production is definitely less on the docile style farms because you aren't maximizing the units/spawn cell potential that the active farms do. I recommend making it fit into more spawn cells to compensate. I noticed the same thing when I was checking the loot in both farms I made (which is in my next video)
Been playing since 0.3 and mob farming was and still is confusing, i swear theyve changed how it works a few times now and watching your old vids of making mob farms was very helpful. I tried a simple farm set up for mushrooms and larva but didn't realize the cells are map locked 😅 i just thought any 16x16 layout would work. I have had the issue of mons spawning outside the area the spawners are in. Like I walk around and encounter a larva or 2 roaming away from the farm. The farm itself wasn't fully utilized for either mob, had the 16th tile isolated as a border and was surrounded with water at its 17th tile. I did hear that it was a bug but i thought it was patched last update 😑
ya that bug is still around. Also mimites are breaking walls right now which seems to me like something they shouldn't be able to do. I've asked the devs about it. Waiting to hear back. I know they're working on fixing the bug where mobs spawn outside the farms. That bug has affected me too.
Thanks for the amazing video again! But isn't there still a bug, that the mobs dont spawn on their tile? In my old and new world mobs still spawning outside my mob farms. Just making sure if this is still a thing or just me. :)
no Im just terrible at math and probably had some tiles that got stacked somewhere else and I forgot to include them. Just increase some of the tiles that have some rarer spawns on them like orange slime or urban moss.
@@KFHZ99 ya thats probably it. I cant believe that a. I didnt notice that I forgot to put in the chrysalis and b. you're the first to catch it and this video has been out for how many weeks now? =P
In a 16x16 tile, If I put 13 slime cells (99% spawn), it's "useless" to put more, I can only have one spawn of that monster every 15-22 minutes ? I was wondering if I cover a full 16x16 tiles will I spawn MORE slime or it's useless to go above 13 ?
I'll use two different slime examples.... 13 orange slime will give you a 99% chance to spawn 1 orange slime or about a 70% chance for a red slime (not exact percent for red slime) but you'll never spawn BOTH a red slime and an orange slime at the same time. It'll always be one or the other. If you increase your orange ground slime to fill the 256 tiles you will still have a 99% chance to get an orange slime but your odds of potentially getting a red slime instead will increase to 92%. But it doesn't matter if you have 13 or 256 tiles, you still only get 1 slime to spawn. In the case of poison slime, 13 tiles gets you to 99% spawn chance for a purple slime. But nothing else spawns on that tile so if you go to 256 tiles you will still only have a 99% chance to get 1 purple slime. Its always only 1 per spawn cell. There are some mobs that spawin in groups or pairs. Infected Caveling can spawn up to 4 at a time, and the caveling skirmishers/spearmen tend to spawn in pairs.
Man, spawn cells are hsrd to get right on switch. The map is not accurate enough. Often time the cursor will jump by 2. So it will grom from like 94, 32 to 96, 32. Makes it hard to find the exact right tile that is actually the corner of a cell. Any tips? Also, spawn cells math is for the bottom left corner, right? So like 96, 32 should be a valid bottom left corner of a spawn cell?
ya it should be the bottom left corner. if you're having trouble getting it exact I wouldnt worry too much about it. During early access I had a farm that was 1 tile off in every direction but it still worked great. When you can't get super accurate, go for size. Size can make up for it.
So I actually figured this out. On switch, the cursor seems to have a bug that makes it offset by 2 tiles. If you put the cursor right in the middle of the waypoint below the core, it reads 0,2 instead of 0,0. After correcting for that everything works well.
