    As of July 2021 they do still offer the longer handle version. I just bought (July 2021) the “Joshua” recliner and nearly all the fasteners on it are Torx if anyone is wondering.

    Thank you for this video, I have a LaZBoy model they do not make anymore (dual reclining rockers), and the handle broke in a move. I've benn wondering how to replace it for an embarrassingly long time. Now I just need to find an allen wrench set screwdriver

    Where can I buy the torx head shoulder bolt that retains the square hole handle?

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @jonathanblakeslee2349 - La-z-boy parts are available from the manufacturer (contact them through their website). Some of their dealers (sellers) also stock common parts like the one you're looking for. You can try them as well.

    my handle had a different hole to connect to the drive shaft, it was like two overlapping offset squares? this worked anyway

  • @kzukiodenthechad7205

    I did not know that you needed to put a pretty good amount of force into the drive bolt when disassembling or reassembling... when finally figuring out how to sort of remove the seat I found an exact drive bolt fit but it kept feeling like it was slipping even though I knew it was the right size... Are there any alternatives you can use in replace of drive bolts if you did indeed strip one? And why would La-z-boy choose to use drive bolts instead of your average Allen Wrench bolts? What is the purpose of such bolts if they can be stripped soo easily...

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ChadRilla23 - The bolt is likely only hard to drive when you try to do so by hand, as I demoed in the video. With the proper power tool (with adequate torque) and a snug-fitting bit, you should have no problems so long as you maintain the proper pressure and angle of the tool when using it.
      I recommend using the special bolt that La-z-boy makes for this purpose, not a generic replacement.

    What size of torque screw for the newer handle? I thought ours was an older lever but the replacement handle given to us by the dealer after showing them the product info from the label inside the chair was the new style handle.

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Joanne Sohl - You'll need a T30 torx bit for the handle bolt.

    I have the older style handle. When we recently had the recliners reupholstered they apparently stripped out the allan head set screws. What is the size of the set screw and can it be purchased at a regular hardware store?

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @raydelea5426 - Sorry, I don't know the size. It may well be a standard size that's available elsewhere. If not, you can contact the manufacturer to see if that part is still available from them.

    Hi, nice videos you make. I recently purchased the La-z-boy Dreamtime Recliner (not sure if its sold in US) at the official dealer here in the philippines. Do you know if the silver (maybe chrome plated) Ark handle kit is sold for me to upgrade? I didn't know this and the swivel where options i could have chosen (perhaps they are not as sales person didn't mention it) but i would like to order the Ark handle, but wondering if they make a compatible one for my chair.. Thanks

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Mark K - To check out various options and whether they are compatible with your chair, contact your La-z-boy dealer. If they prove not to be helpful, contact the manufacturer thru their website -- www.la-z-boy.com/

    Is it possible to change from the pull button to the handle on a lazy boy sofa?

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Diane Folan - Solid handle recliners have a longer Drive Rod and therefore a different reclining mechanism than cable release or electric units.
      In theory you could switch mechanisms as long as the new one was compatible with your recliner. However, you're not likely to find anyone who will guarantee that compatibility. And since La-z-boy only provides parts that originally came on your sofa, getting the new mech might also be problematic.

    I have a Lane recliner and it looks like I should be able to move the handle to the left side but there is one bolt that I cannot remove because the head of the bolt does not have an opening for any type of tool so it turns when you are turning the nut.

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @The Rock Room Phil Zuckerman - Sounds like a carriage bolt with a rounded head. Use some pliers or vice grips to hold the threaded end of the bolt while loosening the nut. It doesn't take much (holding) pressure to break the nut loose. If you're concerned about damaging the threads, use a piece of rubber or something similar to put over the threads before clamping on with the pliers.

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Gayle Grant - I don't know what year they switched handle types. If you have the set screw, you have the older style handle. If you have the bolt, you have the newer or current version. ;)

    I have an old recliner i bought from Sams Club and the only issue with my handle is that it keeps coming out of the hole. I flipped it over but cant see how it stays connected

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Sjrick - If it's a flush-mounted plastic pull handle, those are typically attached to the frame with wood screws. If the handle pulls loose from the plastic housing, the entire assembly needs to be replaced.
      If it's a solid handle, those are usually held on with bolts or set screws.

    What size Allen/Hex key for the set screw? 4.5mm or one of your strange American sizes?

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ZDOG69 - I normally use a set(s) of these wrenches and just use the one that fits best. It appears to be a 3/16" allen wrench in this case. There may be a metric equivalent that matches closely enough to do the job. Just make sure the end of the wrench fits snuggly into the set screw with no excessive play.
