Thanks for these very clear instructions, which I found AFTER I replaced the cable and handle 😮. The tension is too loose so I guess I need to go back and move the cable end into a different hole. It was my late father’s chair so I definitely want to keep it.

The cable in my beloved recliner snapped during the pandemic. It would either remain broken or I had to fix it. I found this wonderful, clear video, bought a $10 part on-line, and fixed it within hours. The hardest part was removing the clip from the broken cable. The instructions are excellent and easy to follow.

This is the best, most informative video that addresses this repair job. I struggled after watching other videos that didn't address the simple instructions of how to release the footrest and pull the release arm forward so the dogleg could easily be inserted into the hole in the release arm. Your detailed instructions made the fix simple. Thank you.

Thank you so much for this, my recliner pull mechanism stopped working after only a year. (it was a cheap chair) But with your video I was able to repair it myself after I bought the replacement pull and wire. I am not very mechanical or fix-it type girl either. Keep up the good work! Also, I watched other videos and they were too confusing. Kudos!!

  • @carrieberry276

Thank god I found this again. The handle itself snapped on the one I replaced two years ago and I couldn't remember which video helped me install it. As it turned out, in the previous installation (probably not original given the age of the second hand recliner) the z shaped hook on the end of the cable was inserted from the wrong side of the bracket and it was very difficult to get in and out. I just noticed on this video that the z was inserted from the side closest to the arm of the chair, not the seat. That made all the difference. Thank you so much!

I had to do some MacGyvering to get the universal handle and cable to fit. First the plastic tab was so tight I couldn't remove it without softening it with a blowdryer and pushing really hard ( multiple brusies, I am 60 year old female). I removed the broken cable but the universal handle was bigger than the original handle. So I had to figure out how to swap out the new handle for the old handle which I was successful in doing. Yay me! When I reinstalled it, I had A LOT of trouble getting the plastic tab back into the frame so more heating with the blowdryer was required, resulting in more bruises but I got it in. Then I hooked it up and tested it and then replaced the original handle with its original screws. Ta Da! I was damn proud of myself. What will be my next challenge?

It all started so well, removed the original cable, no problem just with screw driver. Bit tricky to feed new cable in as chair was ‘not ‘open’ below (like in video) but managed and then spent almost an hour trying to fit new clip in. Was right length but after comparing with original clip, it was thicker in width. Tried filing it but no use, it was just too thick and not the right clip. Thought they were all the same, off back to order another cable. Parents up to high doh with it all!

If the handle is too stiff when you try moving it to get the screws back in, undue the cable, put screws back in, and then connect the cable. That was required with the replacement kit I got. The correct handle I received for my sofa was different than the handle shown in the video.

Any suggestions on what to do, if the plastic clip (seen first at 1:17) won't snap into place when I'm installing a new cable? I was able to get one side replaced with relatively no problems, but the clip on the other side just isn't staying put. The snapping into place function isn't working. I may just have to order a replacement cable for the replacement I just bought.
