If you can't handle spice, you are truly missing out. Cus that is one of the best single bite of food you can get.

That manual processes are part of what actually preserves the original taste. They can't replace it, otherwise compensate the taste. I am Javanesse. Jogja is full with amazing food for sure but make sure you also visit Solo and Semarang. The ayam goreng Mbah Karto in Solo is also legendary and is our President’s favourite. In Semarang you should try soto kudus Mbak Lin and Gudeg Abimanyu. I think you could find these both at the same spot at Taman Kuliner Ventura, If I remember it correctly

As an Indonesian, I'm ashamed to say that despite the many bakpia pathok I have eaten throughout my life this is the first time I've seen how it's made so thank you for showing us! And also, 25 is the most popular brand, as there are many bakpia pathok producers in Jogja. Probably one of the reasons why people were fighting for the fresh ones because it's just that good!

Hi Luke. You should also visit Banda Aceh province, at the top point of Sumatra island. We have the most well known Mie Aceh, the most legendary Mutton Curry ( kuah beulangong), Ayam Tangkap, Martabak Telur, Duck Curry. All the ingredients are amazing. Banda Aceh also has amazing beautiful beaches. Worth to visit. Hope to see you there ! 🙏
Your final stop is my high School friends' favourite even until now. It has been more than 30 years ago she sells ES BUAH Gerjen or fruit ice at Gerjen (name of location). Thus you tried one of yogyakarta's legend beverages Luke!

Nice job as always. I love authentic food myself, II also love tiny local restaurants with amazing food. Several times though, I ended up being sick like a dog few hours later. Once only, in China in a little restaurant around the slams of Forbidden City, I had a chance to look into the kitchen... I did regret doing so, but understood why I get sick at times. This 'chicken kitchen shows at 13min and 6 sec. around the oven that probably has never yet been cleaned, layers of drippings, spilled fat, soup chicken feet and whatever they have been cooking on these pots for many years... This reminds me of I have seen and the risks you expose yourself to at times. The chicken is surely still awesome, yet there is a chance you will not be able to keep it inside of you for long..
