Hey Luke, great to have you back in Indonesia. Btw, wanna know what's funny? My fiance (he's American) will come to my hometown in Bogor in February 19th & he's been browsing youtube to see places that have yummy foods. Today he happened to find this video & he screenshot the scene when you had Ketoprak & messaged it to me when we chatted before I went to work. I was so surprised, I spontaneously exclaimed "You're watching Luke Martin! He's one of my favorite food vlogger." Well, we have planned to go to Glodok & your video gives information about more food we can try when we get there. Thanks for making this video, keep up the good work!
The fried bananas look special, hats off to that hardworking chef! Coconut milk and turmeric are both healthy ingredients, and if the meal turns out to be delicious, that’s great! When I was a kid, if I put that kind of biscuit in rice, my parents would definitely scold me, but I didn’t expect it to be an Indonesian delicacy! This is the first time I see you being funny 15:00, you have great talent. haha! You did a really great job! Thanks a lot for sharing! 👍😄👏
if u want to talk about 'chinatown' in the real meaning, it's actually many. west n north jakarta are famous for Chinese population. soo, lots of Chinese clusters there. so, better not talk about 'chinatown'. because it's a lot. probably like.. 'chinese culture center' or something. edit; even near my house, there is like several long street that filled with Chinese that settled there. some of them also sell streetfood especially sweets. so, u can say it's 'chinatown' too, right/
as someone who lived in this area, thanks for enjoying our daily cuisine. Even i haven't really tried that all ! if you are planning to visit glodok area again, you should definitely try "Masakan 19" mini restoraunt (near Pasar Pagi ). Their springrolls (Lumpia Shanghai) and Fuyunghai is the best. It's worth to try ! not so far from masakan 19, there is someone who sell Gado Gado as well (Similiar to ketoprak). There is also Soto Pak Dadang, Sate, and a lot of others thing you should try ! notify me when you are planning to visit Glodok once again ! Would love to accompany you
Indonesia is paradise of vegan food/dishes...and also there many combinations or colaborations of chinese and Indonesian food/dishes..where never found in china mainland...combinations/colaboratios creates halal food/dishes...
6:44 When you eat bakso or soto or any meal like that, the taste will be bland. Indonesian usually add soy sauce, chilly, white pepper, or even more salt into the bowl because the seller makes the food with basic state, and the consumer add more flavor to their own taste. That's why you can see see soy sauce and chill sauce on ever table.
Hi Luke. I love your videos. Would you be able to go to mauritius. It's very diverse and multicultural and unique food. From Indian food to Chinese influence food and French influence, I'm sure you will enjoy your trip there
Pisang Goreng!! Love them! The traditional ones with thick and soft batter especially! If the vendors have menu and selections, I avoid them. Too bad can't make them here since they use different types of bananas there. Cavendish doesn't taste as good as Indonesian bananas for Pisang Goreng!

Breakfast with KETOPRAK.... I hope it's not heavy breakfast for you as an european, mate... 😃 Coz KETOPRAK is common breakfast type for Indonesia people.
I love you guys, Luke and Arie; but you went to Jakarta’s Chinatown and you didn’t try enough Chinese Indonesian dishes 😢 Granted _mi kangkung_ is something unique because of its Chinese and Indonesian fusion of flavors, but you should’ve tried things like _nasi campur_ (rice with assorted pork), _siomay_ (Chinese Indonesian-style of shumai), _nasi tim_ (minced pork on steamed rice), etc. Don’t get me wrong, I love stuff Iike _soto tangkar, nasi ulam_ and _cempedak goreng_ but you were in friggin’ Chinatown, please have something you can’t get elsewhere 😭 And you definitely need to have better _bakmi_ recommendations with actual _tu bak_ (pork) in them.
@@LukeMartin yes, saw that one as well a long time ago. There are still a lot to discover in Chinatown. It’s always to have you back in Indonesia, Luke! 🍻

Luke , i think u have to change your food tour guide , he's only showing what kind of food he likes , when spicy food tour comin' he just go to kapau , padang , or sundanese .. i laughed so hard , ofc its good , but not for spicy edition.. there's so many a good places and virals restaurant in Jakarta.. like sambal bakar , richeese , mie abang adek , etc..

Just a suggestion luke, you need non muslim guide when go to china town so he/she could bring you to the food stall halal and non-halal, many place like turtle/ fried pork etc. Nodle and meatball you ate not too good

The best thing about Indonesian Chinatown is that you can find halal version of Chinese food or acculturation of chinese-java-betawi-dutch cuisine.
you have to try Indonesian food, nasi Padang😋
