Actually, you can eat pig (babi) or particularly babi guling in other island or elsewhere in Indonesia. There are several islands in Indonesia not predominantly Muslim, such as North Sulawesi, Papua, East Nusa Tenggara, etc

Ubud is in 2 words, ART OVERLOAD. i really regret not trying the roasted pig. You can really see Cuture on this video. You do not see much culture in his Carcar Cebu video. The Cebu Lechon is perfect too. But Bali really has culture and Luke always look more relaxed and cute when he is in places where he doesnt need to Hype Up the culture. Bali is so Beautiful. I miss so badly. Because its the anniversary of my Visit to Bali. I was actually in Ubud this time a few years ago.

What I love about Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia is how well preserved their culture is ,each country has a distinct old-age native look and feel , while the Philippines is too blatantly bootleg Hollywood. Bali, Indonesia is one of the best places I’ve been to and the best “cultural immersion” indulgence you will ever get to experience in your lifetime.

I am very happy to see not only delicious food, but also some beautiful sights this time!
Babi Guling/ lechón/ roast suckling pig originates from the traditional cuisine of Castile, Spain. This roast suckling pig is served with a crispy skin.
In fact, many countries in Asia now have this delicacy, and each has its own version!
The cooking method of bebek betutu is quite special. I am very happy to see the complete cooking process. Thank you for sharing! 👍😃👏

Babi Guling is available in Jakarta. While the majority of the Indonesian population is Muslim, it's a secular country that guarantees religious freedom. Chinatown in Jakarta has pork options as well. There's a number of TH-cam videos covering the dishes with it. I thought that was a variety of Gado Gado not Bubar at first. My BiL took us to a cart (like a Japanese ramen shop with seats and a roof that folded up at closing) near the old market in Jakarta and they had the best Bubur Ayam. We went to Bebek Bengal "Dirty Duck Diner" also in Ubud when we went in July 2017. I tried the duck cooked in a bamboo tube. It was very good, but I recommend getting the house specialty for a first taste.

Luke... Wow, awesome video man! Once again you did it to me, dude! I am getting hungry watching you eating that smoked Bebek Betutu while taking a break from writing a paper. You know, I've been craving some duck meat for some time now. Here in the United States, the cost of Duck, whether it's freshly raw or cooked has skyrocketed. Where about 10 years or so ago we can still buy ducks at a cost of around $8 USD each, but now it is at around $25-30 USD each. Man, if I was there with you I would have ordered at least 5 to share. Well I know I can at least take one down myself. Hahaha... By the way, glad to see you and Sabrina able to travel again in making great content. I'm very interested in the Pork scene in Bali, because eating pig seems to be banned in Malaysia and the rest of (at least) western Indonesia (even though there are plenty of Chinatowns in both countries where I'm sure pork dishes are prepared). Any insights, other than what you said on your video?
The Babi Guling looked great. In the USA we are hesitant to admit liking skin more than the meat. And forget about using the blood. Eating lung is even illegal here. Yet in the rest of the world these parts of the animal are all prized, especially the fat and the skin. I was raised on offal, with my recent immigrant heritage being Germanic/Swedish (using lots of blood & pig-heads), Sicilian/Italian (for lots of tripe & spleen), and Scottish (on my stepmother's side, who raised me on haggis with sheep's lung in it). Plus my entire family loves the skin (crispy or stewed-soft), of every animal. All of this is in addition to me being raised in southern California with all of the Mexican & Asian influence there (for tendon, guts, feet, ears, heads, tails, and claws), leading to my stomach turning into a regular butcher-shop floor covered in scraps. So I feel sorry for those Americans who always throw the best parts away. I would cram them all into a pie with some salt, pepper and thyme (the scraps, not the Americans).

Yes, it's a sulphur-crested cockatoo to be exact (not a "cockateel") and it really SHOULDN'T be chained to a perch. One of the disappointments of a trip to Bali in 2018 was the poor treatment of animals that I observed in a number of places, even a so-called wildlife "sanctuary", where birds and reptiles were kept in tiny cages and turtles in filthy water. Definitely room for improvement.

It's just roast pork NOT suckling pig. Suckling means it's still only drinking (sucking) its mothers milk. Everyone misnames it tho'. Really enjoy your work!

    Hi luke,
for chinese in malaysia, the groom usually has to present a roasted piglet during wedding. Not cheap nowadays with inflation.

even though Indonesia predominantly Moslem, you can still enjoy Non Halal Food outside Bali. There is no restrictions of consuming non Halal Food outside of Bali.
in Jakarta and in every Provincial Capital city such as Bandung, Surabaya, etc, where predominantly Moslem,
there's a lot Lapo Tuak Resto (Batak Tribes from North Sumatera) that Serve B1 (Dog) B2 (Babi/Pork/Lard), and Tuak/Arak/Palm Wine (Alcoholic Beverages made from Fermented Palm Fruit) and there's aslo a lot of Chinese Resto that serve Pork in their menu, those restos spread accross the city.
The resto always Inform that the food that they serve are non Halal Food.
North Sumatera (Sumatera), East Nusa Tenggara (Flores, Sumba, Western Part of Timor Island), North Sulawesi (Sulawesi/Celebes Island), West Kalimantan (Kalimantan/Borneo Island), Maluku, Papua are provinces that equal in number in terms of religion (Moslem & Christian) or even predominantly Christian.

Luke kept translating Babi Guling as roast SUCKLING pig. Doesn't he realise suckling pig means just that -- a baby pig that is still SUCKLING milk from its mother. The 70kg pig they are roasting is most certainly not a baby pig still suckling milk.
