I had the pleasure of meeting Ron Glass at Gen Con some years back. I got an autographed picture. Some time later, I met Summer Glau at a different Gen Con. She signed my copy of the Serenity RPG rulebook. RIP Ron Glass.
I also had the opportunity to meet and interview Ron Glass. You can watch the interview here th-cam.com/video/Y3Q80Umjm-w/w-d-xo.html. I miss Mr. Glass.

Firefly is the most literal "Space western". I love it's focus on characters, no weird plot focus, no alien overload, just people cooperating and struggling. It is the characters that makes firefly great.
that's the point; she wasn't chubby. I think Jewel was saying she was a bit skinnier than normal because of the demands of other tv shows, and Whedon wanted Kaylee to look like a normal girl. Which I highly, highly approve of.
Ever since the show, I valued, more, the experience of seeing fireflies while mowing my grass, early evenings in the spring here in Garland Texas. Amazing how a TV show can change somebody's life for the better in so many ways. Well, of course TV shows usually don't - but, Firefly was no average TV show!
I've grown up on the northwest and way before Firefly the TV show existed I went to the east coast once and was so excited to see an actual Firefly it blew my mind!
@@matthewhealy4752 rock 'n' roll! Unfortunately, this last spring, didn't see as many but still caught a few. Always makes me think warmly of the show :-)
I'm just going to say this, and if anyone here agrees please thumbs this up. Firefly to me is home, it's a place where i can go to feel free, relax and laugh and just simply indulge in the "serenity" that the show/film creates. Never did i think for a SECOND that a TV show would find a place in my heart! I know to some i sound crazy, but to all my die hard browncoats out there you know how i feel! Never stop the signal, and aim to misbehave!!! Joss & Tim you beautifully brilliant men! bravo!
Every few months i watch this show from start to finish. while i would have loved to have gotten more, i realize that too much time has passed, and it is likely that we can never have them revisit it to our satisfaction. this sucks, but now, maybe that’s good. thanks so much to everyone who made firefly and serenity what it was; it was a disservice to have such an accomplishment cut short. “I am a leaf on the wind, watch how i soar!”
Firefly is more than a show... it's a feeling...it's a commentary on us as individuals. Firefly was and still is one of the best television shows to ever be created. It's cancellation was bittersweet. All of the fans who have fallen in love with it are so dedicated to the beauty and perfection of what makes great television. Firefly is the reason I love watching T.V. and film. Even if the show never comes back to air I will still watch and re-watch the series, still getting that "shiny" feeling.
This is the show I always come back to when I want to feel at peace with the world. Fantastic stories, amazing characters and the magical home Serenity!!
It is SO SO rare to find a cast who are so dedicated to the film/tv show/game they are making. Plenty treat each project as just another job and, whilst they may be good actors/actresses, they never really invest themselves. That, to me, is why Firefly is so incredible.
This was a excellent Sci-fi series. The movie “Serenity” was great. It blows away anything new that has hit the screen since this series. A lot of people think the same way. We all need more of it. Please need it to return.👍
This beautiful show had a way of pulling the viewer (me) into the family on that ship, not just as a spectator, but actually part of it. The show made the impossible seem easily real, It was truly unique, just like the cast-beautifully real and unique! I miss them and watch it over and over and will continue to do so to be part of that family. When Ron Glass passed, I mourned the loss of the Shepard!
True words were never spoken by a more shiny lookin' man! Keep flyin' safe through these troubled skies, fellow Browncoat and forever let the signal flow free!
As much as we all want more "Firefly", I believe that in its minimal form it carries more impact and distilled essence. "Firefly" never had time to make a misstep, or create a "less than" episode. Each one, like it's characters and milieu, are essential. Sometimes, though we wish otherwise, less is truly more.
Man, I needed this, just to know that there are still people out there who care as much as I do about this ship. Especially the cast. Keep flying, people.
Well, I lasted until about the last 5 minutes without crying.... Couldn't do it. Just seeing how much they care about that ship is wonderful. Firefly was one of the best shows.
it's so obvious how much love everybody had for this show and it's audience is no different. We all love that beautiful old ship, the actors love it, Joss loves it, and that reflects so beautifully when you watch the show. Serenity is the heart and soul of Firefly, who's life was cut all too short.
I like how the mention, this is us in the future. We are exactly the same just with better technology. That's part of the reason why I am not only fascinated with Sci Fi but also fascinated with history. It's the same as today, but with worse technology. Nothing has changed, just the things we use. I think once more people notice that, the more of an appreciation they will have for history and Science Fiction.
The truth is, good sci fi is NEVER about the science. It's about the people. Good sci fi is a statement about what it means to be human. It's a way to explore our problems and our foibles in a(supposedly) non-threatening, non-challenging way.
The fact that Fox cancelled Firefly gives you a feeling in your chest that makes it so tight that you can't breath. When ever I watch a show... I watch the first episode and then I check how many more there are. And to see that there were only 14 episodes of Firefly makes you count... and you ask... how many more episodes intell it all ends? When I saw the last episode of Firefly I smiled and was going to watch the next one... but then the smile wiped off of my face when I saw that I had watched all 14 episodes of Firefly. So this is why I hate Fox. You got rid of the show that made thousands of people happy. And over one thousand people are not happy... Mal, Wash, Jane, Simon, Book,River, Kaylee, Innara, Zoey, Me and thousands of other fans all because you took Serenity away.
fucking testament to joss and tim's talent that they still produced such a sweet show under such stupid scrutiny from fox execs. would've been awesome to work on the set of this show
I feel much same way about these characters, and the universe and the ship as I do for Harry Potter. Now Harry Potter was childhood I grew up with the books, and they meant a lot to me. That took seven books. Firefly won me over in a season. It has away of grabbing at your heart, at a nostalgia and your imagination and it is expressed so fucking well. I care about this show more than I do about a lot of others because there was such love and dedication that went into it and it's palpable.
i don't believe anyone will ever hear people talk about a show, set and cast the way everyone from 'firefly/serenity' does. its sad for something so beautiful to be so short-lived. Browncoats Forever! If we truly believe, they'll never be able to stop the signal! :D
In another universe, we got 6 seasons of this masterpiece, 2 movies, and a spinoff sitcom where Mal and Inara raise a bunch of Buddhist Browncoat mini-thems.
I, like many of my fellow Browncoats, own this box set, seen this Behind-the-Scenes segmentt many times, and STILL watch it many years later on TH-cam.
This made me want to watch the series and Serenity all over again, so just bought the dvd's... I hope the actors are still getting royalties from it because they deserve them!

My Take on the Fireflys shape reminded me of a horse like you have a cross between a insect and a robotic horse.the heroes arrive or escape in their firey steed, hence a space western. a Pegasus in space.
As any Browncoat can tell you, the best show ever cancelled. For those who are not aware of the _Firefly_ phenomenon, buy the series on DVD or Blu-Ray, watch it, then watch the movie, "Serenity." It's the one and only time I have ever seen a cancelled property brought to a satisfactory conclusion with a major motion picture release. I watch the whole thing all the way through every few years.
Rest in Peace Ron Glass. You'll be dearly missed.

SyFy as a cable company has canceled many excellent shows. The Expanse being a prime example (pun intended)
