The short answer is no in this day and age there were too many men in that show
We don't need a revival. What we need is a time machine to fix a mistake and continue the original series for at least four more seasons.

I don't care how many more seasons, just the amount needed to tell the story to its natural ending and fix the mistakes of that god-awful movie that doesn't deserve to be part of the Firefly universe.
And air it in proper order...
How about a compromise: a brand new sci-fi show about a group who completes said mission by building said time machine?
I know! I know! How about a world BETWEEN worlds? We'll call it..."The World Between Worlds" and characters can "jump" from one plane in a set time and PULL other characters from another plane (or time) and interact or enter a new plane or return to their original one.
But it is NOT time travel. Just to make that clear. NOT time travel.

I always find that arguement of having 2 sci-fi shows on one network to be complete bull, how many police proceedurals or medical dramas do they have going at one time?

Fox really missed a huge opportunity with this show. It absolutely had the potential to go 10-15 seasons and become a franchise that would make Star Trek look like Gilligan's Island. It is easily one of the top 5 best Sci-Fi television shows ever produced. The stories were superb, the production top notch, and the actors were amazing. I was so pissed when it got canceled.
This was during a period where Fox kept getting handed solid content and doing everything possible to sabotage it. They kept moving House MD around to different nights and nearly cancelled it until someone pointed out that DVRs were a thing and it was the most DVR'd show in history at the time. They cancelled King of the Hill after failing to show basically the entire 9th season because football kept eating up the entire time slot. Same thing with Futurama either changing the day it aired or allowing football to simply consume the time slot entirely.

Personally I don't like TV shows that "go on forever". No matter how good they start, sooner or later they all go downhill for lack of ideas to keep them fresh but still within the lore they built up. Examples would be the Simpsons or Friends. I prefer shows with a story arc that's more or less clear (to the producers) from the get-go. Shows like Babylon 5 (originally planned for five seasons but messed up a bit due to financial reasons) or Buffy (with a perfectly fine ending in season 5, then getting extended by another 2 seasons with another (imo) perfectly fine "second ending" in s7). I think the 3 to 7 season range is the optimum for a tv show length. Less than that and you tend to lack character development and world building. More than that and stories tend to get stale or ridiculous or contradict the established lore. So imo 5-ish seasons for Firefly would've been perfect and realistic, had the broadcasters taken any serious interest in the show.

My favorite fun fact tangential to the series: while DVD encryption had been broken for many years, when HD-DVD and Blu-Ray came out, they had newer, better encryption, and folks were concerned that the studios had beaten the pirates for once. Well, that proved to be short-lived, as both were broken, with the first movie ever decrypted from HD-DVD being Serenity. You can't stop the signal.

My favorite sci-fi series ever. Absolutely amazing cast and great stories.
I think a reboot would fail spectacularly, at this point. Serenity happened soon enough after the show's cancellation that you could still get the same actors, writers, etc together. Now, everyone has gone their multiple ways...Ron Glass has gone to The Great Beyond...it would be almost impossible to recapture the alchemy of the original series.
Additionally, it's now been almost two decades since Serenity. That's two decades of people building up in their minds what a continuation or reboot could be...and the likelihood of writing something that would live up to those expectations for a large enough percentage of fans to be satisfied is so incredibly tenuous as to be non-existent. Any attempted spin-off/reboot/continuation would likely be as divisive as the sequel trilogy has been to Star Wars.
A big part of the original success of Firefly was the uniqueness of the show. Nobody had seen anything like it before. Much as I love the show, I think attempting anything more than a one-off feature-length or miniseries production would fall short of expectations, because it's not going to capture that novel factor of being something all-new. On top of that, two fan-favorite characters would be missing...Wash could only appear in flashbacks, and Shepherd Book would have to be recast completely if he was going to be used at all--and could likewise only be used in flashbacks. Those two characters were significant factors in the show's appeal. A continuation series without them would lack a lot of the magic. It would be like trying to continue Star Trek:TOS without Scotty or Bones.
At this point, Firefly will live longer in the minds of its fans by being a series cancelled too soon and the imagined possibilities that they create from that inspiration. Anything else is going to fall short of expectations, and while it might provide short-term satisfaction, in the long term, it would only water down fan enthusiasm.
I have a way to make it work: *Firefly Cobra Kai.*
In other words you use the old characters to introduce a new main cast, keeping the best main characters interested/left with big roles. Cameos for whomever (including minor roles like BAxter!)
Totally would work. Needs whedon though. Stephen DeKnight runs show, Whedon EPs behind the scenes.

Oh, note: actually, anyone who watches anime had seen something a helluva lot like it (Firefly was copped from Cowboy Bebop. copped very well, but copped.)
In the meantime, everyone should watch the spiritual successor: *The Expanse.* Equally great... almost.

@@musicman8270 Star Trek reinvented itself, essentially, as far as TV series. The movies had the advantage of having the entire core cast return. And the one time they killed off a core character, the next movie was all about bringing him back from the dead.
They may be able to come up with something set in the Firefly universe...but Wash and Book are pretty irredeemably dead. That's like Star Trek without Scotty and Bones...
I'd love to be proven wrong, believe me. It would be awesome to see The Further Adventures of Mal And The Crew...but I just don't see it working out well.

So it was paradise to come home in the seventies and watch these in syndication. The folks were still at work. And we were ready for next generation after the Wrath of Khan. And we had our own homes,with our own television sets
I genuinely loved this series… Serenity was a sweet send off.
Whedon is utter garbage as a person, but he did great work. I don't think he would be essential to a reboot, but as mentioned a new concept along the lines of "Unforgiven" might be the wiser choice rather than trying to get the lightning to strike twice.

It truly is a tragedy that Firefly did not last very long. I’ve done my best to collect all the comics as well as the movie and TV show on DVD. I’ve always appreciated Nathan Fillion‘s desire to revive it, having referenced it a few times in his other big show Castle, as well as voicing the “space” cowboy super hero Vigilante on Justice League Unlimited.
Have you read the novels as well? They are quite good. I kind of fell behind, and I think I have 3 more to read.

I have a concept for the next iteration. Kaylee and Simon are living on Persephone, running a starship repair business and a medical clinic respectively. They have a couple of kids and auntie River takes care of them. River is still far from normal, but much more balanced and in control. Of course it took money to start these businesses, and Badger generously provided this. Besides exorbitant payments, they often have to supply services to Badger's less-than-honorable clients. Jayne owns a bar. Malcolm and Zoe would be guest stars (worked around their network show schedules) We would add some new characters, some people that work at these three businesses. Since Baccarin doesn't want to be involved, there would be the story of loss here. Since she was supposed to have a deadly disease this make sense. If she's willing to come back for an episode or two they could do this in flashback.
I loved Firefly and Serenity.... and like your concepts for another iteration on characters.

I was actually hoping for a series called "Booke" taking on the story of Shepard Booke as an operative. There are many points in Firefly and Serenity where he lets things slip about his on time life, like his ident card when he was wounded.
I'm so glad they filmed Firefly in widescreen, because that helps to keep it from looking so dated. Though this was filmed in the era where shows like that still looked like they were filmed on a stage instead of feeling like it's in a real ship. So that kind of dates it in a way. Though this is still my all time favorite tv show.
The selection of the cast was ... inspired. It's hard to imagine anyone else playing those roles. The imagination of Joss Whedon provided fertile ground for the story to take flight. Without their collective passion, dedication and creative abilities any subsequent reboot of the series is likely to have a quite different flavour. From the first episode of Firefly that I watched I was enraptured. I would love for a re-visit, but... time has moved on and left the show, as it stood, in the past. All that said, however, I am reminded of how I felt about Star Trek [The Original Series] and the role of Captain James Tiberius Kirk. How could anyone reprise the role without it being William Shatner? He didn't. Chris Pine under the directorship of J.J. Abrams breathed new life into the genre. It wasn't ST[ToS] writ large on the big screen. In a lot of ways, it was better. So, Firefly. I won't be rooting for a continuation primarily because I don't think it can happen. But a re-boot with the right guidance and a decent budget and time slot? Oh, YES PLEASE!!

I wanna see a new show, with new crew and ship... set 15-20 years after teh events of Serenity. That way we can get the OG crew to cameo AND the story in that movie would be the catalyst for the backstory of the new show.
How did the people and the Alliance handle that news of the Reavers origin and what was done? How did they handle the Reavers after that (esp since more and more seem to always be showing up in the original show and movie)...
Make a story of a new rebellion maybe, or general unrest in the outer systems- maybe a successful break away from many of htem with the tumultuous signal of the truth...
THEN look 10-15 forward from that... and THAT "from the ashes/when things finally begin to settle" period is the new show's starting point.

Kinda weird to not even mention the death of Ron Glass, or the graphic novel that filled in the backstory for his character.
Definitely a bad omission. He deserves to be remembered, and The Shepherd's Tale is a fantastic story.
I kept wanting the comics to continue after the movie. They finally did a bit, but it got weird. Ha!

I'd love to see Serenity/Firefly to come back ... but only with original atmosphere. Nowadays shows often change for the worse because studio exec believe they know what a modern audience would want and then we receive just some unobstructable crap.
I heard one of the reasons it didn't do well is that some network executives were angry with Joss Whedon. They deliberity messed it up to spite him.
Airing episodes out of order and on Friday strongly suggests executive bad faith.

It would be great to see more Firefly but how long has it been? After a time it just seems unrealistic to try and resurrect what once was a great show. Possible but very rare!

Firefly is one of 2 sci-fi westerns that were cancelled way too early, it had so many great characters both hero and villain!
Alan Tudyk had written a great script for the 2nd season, and hearing about the script, created a great movie in my mind!

It was a tragedy what happened to this series. To this day, still one of my favorites. Serenity was a blessing in way of closure, as we will likely not see any continuance of this story. I know we fans that have a vested interest would love to see a revival, but in today's eye..I believe it would be lost on most newcomers.
Fire Fly was ahead of its time. Best space series I have ever seen.
It ripped off Starhunter, Outlaw Star, and Cowboy Bebop. It was nowhere near original or groundbreaking.
There was a show called Dark Matter. It went on for 3 seasons and ended on a huge cliff hanger. One of the leads, Melissa O'Neil, now plays a police officer in a series called The Rookie. Guess who else is in The Rookie. Nathan Fillion. I loved Firefly, I loved Serenity, and I loved Dark Matter. Of course when I saw Nathan Fillion was in The Rookie I had to check it out, and when I saw Melissa O'Neil was in it too I just had to start watching. But it really makes me crave some good sci-fi in a bad way. Their shows ending shows before they reached their conclusions was tragic. 😭

Agreed - Dark Matter is an excellent sci-fi show, and well worth the time to watch. Also, obviously, The Expanse is fantastic. Neither of them are Firefly, but what ever could be?
You know what, that's a great reference there. If Dark Matter had been made 20 years earlier, it might just have ended up very similar to Firefly, even without Whedon's involvement.
@@xepherysFor some reason all of these great shows don't have an ending that does justice to the story they are meant to tell. Trek shows other than TOS/TAS and Enterprise were far more fortunate, even the episodic series.
I would totally watch a Firefly revival themed after Unforgiven. This is the first time I've heard this idea and it is brilliant.

Firefly, as short as it may have been, is one of the best sci-fi shows ever aired.
The Expanse gives it a run for it's money, not the same, but still very good.
Firefly; Perfect casting, great stories, better-than-adequate production values. I hate that it was dumped after being treated so poorly by the network. The movie was a terrific bonus ... but ... They killed off Wash, i.e., they stabbed us in the back. Do I wish for an alternate universe where the series was treated with respect and continued? Sure thing (though the movie wouldn't have happened). Do I wish for a continuation without the ENTIRE original cast? Nope, it could never be the same.
I recently introduced one of my granddaughters to the Firefly series and she instantly fell in love with it. At least enough to name her newly acquired kitten Kaylee. 🙂 Now she's hounding us for a 'Jane hat" LOL
I am a huge fan of Firefly. I think the whole cast and the dialogue was top notch. And although I was never really an X Files fan, in the clip you showed, that must surely have been a homage to another show I love dearly, Kolchak. Now I need to find and watch that X Files episode. I had heard that X Files was influenced by Kolchak but to see a character in his iconic suit and hat gave me a huge smile! But Firefly without Joss and the original cast would be worse than not having more Firefly at all. It just could never have the same magic!
And with Ron Glass passing you will never get the full original cast back together, Sheppard Book would need to be recast or written completely out.
I remember watching this every Friday night when it was first on TV. Funny how a great show like this was canceled yet current year production get multiple seasons green lit while having lower ratings than Firefly received
There were so many good shows cancelled over the years, while so many bad ones just keep on chuggin... never understood it.
I've enjoyed the graphic novels and current book series. I'd love to see a reboot of sorts, but capturing the chemistry of the original cast is the greatest risk. I think there are plenty of stories to tell to give us a 4 or 5 season run using the streaming model of 8 to 12 episodes each. If not the Firefly series then maybe doing something with the Galaxy Outlaws series by Morin might work.

All what's needed is for a studio to purchase the rights to produce more episodes and I reckon the cast would jump at the chance to reprise their roles. Some sort of Event series with six episodes would be amazing. Twin Peaks did it. The X-Files did it. Why not Firefly too?

@@grondhero Nah, you do one of those stories where some big bad thing related to something they did in the original is happening and one of the characters goes around recollecting the people that aren't with them anymore.
This show is such a case study. The response to it is so interesting. I'm just glad I got the DVDs for the season and the movie years ago. Still love on it.
I tried watching the original airings with great expectations. I was disappointed and quit after the first 3 episodes. I found a series collection at a thrift store and watched them in the order that was intended. Now I'm a fan. Always loved the movie, Serenity.

That is true. Fox had unrealistic performance demands, target audience, and they changed the schedule multiple times so current viewers couldn't watch it.
I think they just didn't like joss, and giving him a show only to sabotage it was their way of saying they tried when they really didn't. I also heard that at that time fox had been hyper focused on its own internal feedback and formulaic approach to audience growth. At this time fox had a focus on the older 25-30+ crowd and wanted to get younger audiences, but had absolutely no idea how to do that or how they behaved, so when they didn't meet their market projection they panicked and cut bait. They actually did multiple times during this era, because the execs forgot they were a TV network studio that produces entertainment.
I always felt that someone could see how big this show could get and worked against it. The whole style about it was so fitting. I'm afraid too much time has passed.
Maybe they could make two more movies.

My understanding is; Fox basically, Low-Key "cut" Firefly "off at the knees". With terrible, almost non-existent marketing & all the other reasons listed in the video.
They (supposedly) did this because they wanted Joss focused ENTIRELY on his money-making, Buffy series & Angel series. They (reluctantly) approved Firefly because it was a "passion project" of his and they didn't want to risk pissing Joss off! But then they subtly sabotaged it to get him back to working on what THEY wanted him to work on!
As much as I LOVE Firefly, I don't really WANT anything NEW to come out! No remakes, revivals, or whatever and it is TOO LATE for any new seasons!
The time for that to happen would have been 10 or 15 years ago! (the cast are no longer "spring chickens" anymore after all)
Oh, and what we have is HALF a Season! NOT a full Season! (this was network TV, and seasons were about 23-24 episodes long!)
People just like to blame fox for shit because bandwagons. For instance, Fox not airing the 2 hour first episode that wasn't written until after Fox told Whedon and Minear that they weren't going to air the 2 hour episode.
Somehow I missed this… and the hype….then one day I picked up a dvd and was completely blown away. It’s one of the best written shows with a great cast I’ve ever seen.
Baccarin was incredibly beauty as well as Gina Torres, one of my long lasting favorites in everything she does. All the cast was greater than most shows.
Although having a "reboot" of FIREFLY would be nice for the fans, it should be left to sleep.
I saw the movie Serenity first, and it was totally random. I wanted to watch a movie, and walked the poster line at the theater, though that looks interesting, why not. Cue the flood of goosebumps from the first scene and walking out of the theater at the end looking at the world through the eyes of a different verse. I couldn't get the DVD set fast enough.
I actually watched Serenity first, then learned from others that it was based on the show and I bought the DVD set. I was quite disappointed that so few episodes were available, but quickly became a fan. With the death in Serenity of a main character (no spoilers), I didn't see a revival happening unless the timeline put it before that. At this point, the actors are far older and I don't see it ever coming back. Nathan Fillion is still my favorite actor though and love him in Castle and The Rookie!
I personally think that a continuation with a complete recast is totally possible.
As much as I ADORE the original cast and wish it was never cancelled... there are PLENTY of talented actors around.
Have the movie be a premonition that the new cast avoid, slow introduce the concepts from the movie until mirroring its finale with the "S1 finale" then boom, open things up. But with Wash still piloting, dammit. No leaf on the wind!
Tudyk's idea for a later continuation is extremely intriguing though. Makes sense to me too.
After 55 years of watching and loving A and B level scifi offerings I welcome the "reimagining" of a new FIREFLY with a new or mixed with older original characters. The first version was created of its own time. Nostalgia is a fantasy effort. Creativity is magnificent. The only relevant issue is if a new version has a visionary leader with a solid character strong story arc and a studio willing to invest. Returns are dicey with a younger audience. Example is the excellent WILLOW which failed to woo a more cynical younger audience. Have hope. I do

I'd love to see a continuous of the show and Alan stepping into the role of show runner. Alan is an amazing actor (see Doll House) but after seeing con man I think he'd be great behind the camera because we all know why 😢😢
I remember Nathan telling of a how active Alan was in pitching ideas to Joss. Like going to a planet which was tidally locked with the sun and having to visit the darkside to capture viscious dogs for a fighting ring and while they would be successful River would domesticate them in transit leading to further shenannigans with their employer.

I saw this show kind of backwards. Later on, I remember seeing tv spots for the show at the time. But never watched it as I wasn't watching a lot of tv at the time. But I saw Serenity movie at the theater and really liked it. And rented the DVD and watched the special features and saw they kept talking about a tv show and I didn't understand what they were talking about.
It wasn't until a couple of years later that I figured out Serenity was based on a tv show called Firefly. So I rented the DVD's and loved the show. I eventually bought the DVD's and the show became my all time favorite tv show. Then bought the Blu-ray's.
It's a show that I wished had run for 5 seasons so I could periodically rewatch and episode here and there like with say X-Files or something. But with just 14 episodes, I've watched them so many times that it's become like a joke you've heard over and over again. Where I still really like it, but it's kind of worn down.
I'm from Australia so first saw the show on DVD (presumably in the correct order). Loved it and tried to find subsequent series. This explains why I couldn't. Pity studio meddling fucked it up as was a great show.

I was usually up on space movies growing up. Never ever did I see an advertisement of FireFly tv series. Nor did I ever see a movie trailer of Serenity. Only years much later did I hear about these shows.
I then bought the DVD's and enjoy them from time to time. So, wish that there were more of them. Would have been nice to support them when they were up and running. I guess many people didn't know about it either. When talking to others about space movies and their scenes. Many times, when mentioning FireFly. Some have never heard of it. Boy-O-boy did they ever lack in advertising.
Firefly was an INCREDIBLE show. I would love a revival...if they brought back the original characters. When Disney said they were looking at doing a Firefly reboot I was hesitant and apprehensive. I don't feel they would do the show justice. None the less, a proper reboot would be warmly welcomed!
At this point, after this long, the BEST thing to do would be a "reboot sequel" set after the movie Serenity like 15-20 years... and dealing with the fallout about the revelation the Reavers were made by the Alliance... And seeing how the verse moved on in light of that.
THAT would allow a new crew, a new ship, AND still have the chance for the OG crew to cameo here or there for fan service.
There was also a Firefly Online MMORPG in production, but its signal was lost back in 2016.
I remember back in the day the real hardcore fans 'the Brown coats' getting mad about the cancellation. Seems like a lifetime ago now.
Bring this show back! Also, add a DLC in Starfield where we get to meet the Firefly crew for a few awesome side quests!
Impossible to make anything good in the current "climate". So better off re-watching the original material from time to time. I bought the series on DVD, after procrastinating for a long time, and was positively surprised. The cancellation of "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" will however be the number one item in "The Great Book of Grudges". But have no fear, this also deserve a spot on the first page! Also just remembered that Summer Glau was present in both of these TV-series. What a strange coincidence... !
Glau got lots of work in the 00's doing sci fi stuff. She was also in the show Alphas which was an attempt at a more realistic version of how the government deals with X-Men style mutants. Also canceled before its time.
I knew Firefly was really over when I went to see Serenity opening weekend to a nearly empty theater. I didn't count, but there weren't more than a half dozen other people watching it with me.
Probably gonna have to be a full-blown reboot if the show ever returns. Also, Joss Whedon has a bad reputation as a bully now, so someone else would have to take up the mantle.
Maybe there could be a joint Battlestar Galactica/Firefly reboot. I mean, they _could_ take place in the same universe, couldn't they? 🤔
Firefly's schedule was off too due to it being bumped constantly for a series of baseball games. I think it was playoffs for the World Series or something like that. Due to that inconsistent schedule it had a hard time getting traction in ratings.
There is no substitute for great writing. That is what made Firefly, fly. If you can't have Joss Whedon, you can't have Firefly.

I think it would be great if (FIREFLY) show series could get rebooted, and shown either on the SYFY channel, or on the HULU network.
There was also the movie "Browncoats: Redemption" that was an in-universe story that didn't involve Serenity or its crew. I remember watching it at a Comic convention in Chicago. I would've loved to see the universe continue even without the original crew (like Star Trek got to do w/ TNG and DS9).
I can't even imagine what 6 seasons of this show would have looked like

Another sci-fi series killed by network shuffling of the schedule is Defying Gravity. The first 5 episodes were somewhat interesting, but hardly anyone was watching because ABC appeared to be actively attempting to kill it off. I bought the DVDs of the whole first season including 4 outstanding final episodes that did not air on US broadcast tv. The last episode may be one of the most astounding episodes I have ever seen.

Just makes me want to cry. Best TV series ever. If we can't get the car back together, then maybe follow some other brown coat outlaw(s) in the same universe with a different crew. Mal can't be the only brown coat on the run.
I’d be good with a reunion. There’s no way they could continue the show without the original cast.

@@joeslater2390 I don't think so - I mean the storyline and "universe" of Firefly is pretty generic; what made it work was the characters and the way they all interacted with each other. The chances of catching lightning in a bottle like that again is slim to none.
Killing off Wash and Shepherd Book in the Serenity movie were two railroad spike-sized nails in the coffin of Firefly.
Those deaths made it excruciatingly clear that Firefly Is gone.
Hope the bring it back never seen it but the fans love for it is definitely interesting hope they bring og writers and cast
Did not mention that when Fox moved the time slot to Friday night, they did not publicize that.
It wasn't just a Friday night time slot, the show was pre-empted by sports games on multiple occasions and was then moved to another night at least once. They couldn't have prevented building an audience any better.
There was already a reunion special where they sat around and reminisced.
One of the best Sci-fi ever created.
The best proposal for a "revival" I heard of was to make a TellTale style game of Firefly.
Not only was it dumped in the Friday Night Death Slot, but the advertising for it was next to nothing. I literally cannot remember a single run-up to it or even commercial for it when it aired. It was gone before many people even knew it existed, and they only found out about it through the fans' upset.
I'd love to see an animated series! Honestly it would make the most sense:
- It's far lower budget, much more forgiving with scheduling, you can get sound-alike actors for the ones who don't want to sign on again (most likely Morena Baccarin, possibly others).
- The fact that the actors have aged won't matter because they will be animated.
- When it fits the story you can have those big over-the-top explosive scenes that, being animated, will not require fire crews and several takes with propane gas and air pressure pumps and actors in harnesses and wrecked vehicles. ALL of that ties up the works. An animated medium allows for action sequences with little fuss.
- A studio could write and produce a 12 episode season in as little as six months, without voice actors being needed for the entire stretch of time.
I personally would love to see a series brought back like this!
In ten years, Fillion should do an "Unforgiven" or "Logan" homage style movie for Firefly... Fans would love it
Fox fumbled this ball spectacularly, sadly. Firefly was lightning in a bottle. I still rewatch the one (and only) season and spin-off movie quite regularly, but it was a missed opportunity.
Trying to recapture the original magic again would be a huge mistake.
If Doctor Who visited the Firefly universe and reunited the cast of Firefly, that would be one of the greatest Doctor Who plots of all time!
I don't watch TV shows at all, but I love Firefly. The actors did a fantastic job with their characters. They were complex people that had good and bad to them. The only other shows I'll watch are House MD and Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch's version). Those both have the same feel because the "heroes" are all greatly flawed in some way.
I never watched firefly while it was on tv. As I was a OTR truck driver and gone most of the time. But when I went to see the movie I really enjoyed it. And then watched the series and really like it.

Morena's character should be the new captain. Everybody would lose their minds. Mal dead, everyone else settled, she finds the ship on accident and puts on the spurs.

If I can't have a Firefly reboot, how about a good 4K scan of the series.
X-Files destroyed so many great sci-fi shows by insanely outperforming the Friday Night Death Slot. Fox suddenly.thought, "Oh... we just need to put a sci-fi show in that slot and we'll make money. We can tell, because it happened once, and as TV studio execs, that's the maximum number of data points that we can consider at one time."

I agree it might be very difficult to reboot firefly and capture the chemistry from the original cast and the humor and personalities, the actors performance was very very good in my opinion.
Loved the shows and movie-great cast,but I believe it's too late now for revival.Maybe a similar new series.
I'm on the side of "Yes, reboot the series", and with Joss Whedon. However, there have been a fair few interviews which focus on Whedon's treatment of some of the cast of his different productions. First I'll say I do believe them. I've worked myself for a creative person who treats some folks like gold and others like crap and this has all the earmarks. I especially believe Charisma, who went on to produce a series examining abuse in depth.
So here's what I would really like to see: Joss needs to swallow his pride, and make an apology to the people he has mistreated (even if only allegedly). He's not being sued, they really deserve an apology, and a friend of mine once told me in business, apologize first, and then work out a solution. It works for other situations too. You may not feel "at fault", and you may not be, but it opens the door and the other people may just say "there's no need" or what have you. The only way to know is to do it. So, come clean, tell everyone (fans too) you're sorry, and then roll up your sleeves and start making great stories again. My two cents...
On a tangent: Anyone have any idea where to view the last half of "The Nevers"? Evidently they were streamed ONCE on Tubi. As for Serenity: Cowboys and Castiron in Space.Wonderful.
