- The question what TV show got canceled way too early is mostly answered with this one. And while a disney reboot of #firefly seems to be in the making, we wanted to look at other #tvshows that referenced our favorite space western! Here's what we found:

If you ever feel stupid remember: you didn't cancel Firefly.
Not TV but the Halo game "ODST" is full of Firefly references:
- Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, and Adam Baldwin are all members of the cast
- Random marines/ODSTs will say "gorram"
- Baldwin's character will sometimes call his weapon "Vera"
- Tudyk's character is the ODST squad's pilot
- The achievement for lighting a Drone on fire with a fire grenade is called "Firefly"

There's also times where the marines say "Shiny" when something cool happens or when they kill covenant forces
Yes 🙌 ODST is my favorite Halo and this is a big reason why.😊
If you look at Adam Baldwins character long enough (like most character in most halo games) sometimes he will go on the "i'll kill a man" rant from the show
Firefly should have been on for 10 seasons.

There's another bit in Castle where Filllian starts speaking Chinese, and says something about picking it up from a show he loved.
I believe also that they also referenced “shiny” a few times for a drug they’re trying to get off the streets I think, been a long time since I watched Castle.
Theres a few others like a scene Castle puts on blue latex gloves and puts up 2 fingers up on each hand in a fluid motion. 2 by 2, hands of blue.
Then a scene where he tries to shoot a guy, ends up shooting the guys gun. Beckett says "hell of a shot Castle" Castle replies with "I was aiming for his head." Last reference, I remember is in a later season Castle and Beckett are investigating a murder at a Scifi con at an Exhibit for a scifi show called "Nebula 9". Castle pokes fun at her for liking it and lists off a few "good" Scifi shows, last one he references is "That one Joss Whedon show"
And many of the crew has had guestroles on castle. Torres, glau, staite and Baldwin from memory.
Missed another one in castle, castle says I was aiming for his head after the first time using a gun, which was a reference to the scene in the episode train job.
Yeah, thanks for the hint! There's also a another "shiny" reference in Chuck - but I mostly try to pick one reference per TV Show. :)

The Serenity flyby in the pilot to the 2004 Battlestar Galactica series is a good one.
I'm gonna have to pop that disc in again. I just watched BSG not to long ago. Been trying to find models for both Firefly and BSG.

You missed one from Big Bang Theory where Sheldon says the president of FOX is nr 1 on his arch-enemies list for cancelling Firefly.
Also when Sheldon and Leonard are filling out the roommate agreement and agree to set aside time each week to watch Firefly.
In the Percy Jackson movie (terrible movie, but Nathan Fillion was awesome as Hermes) Hermes is commenting on a fictional show "Best TV show ever, so of course....cancelled" (stares in the distance)
The Dollhouse one is subtle and brilliant. But, considering it's another Whedon show, that's not at all surprising.
I love Dollhouse! It’s a shame they rushed season two I felt it would have been better if they could have taken their time and done the plot justice. I know they were worried cancelation and rightly so, but it jumped the shark with season 2.
@@jammin2575I believe Joss was told at the end of season 1 that he was only going to get one more season, so he had to quickly wrap it up. At least it didn't end on a cliffhanger.
I believe there are Reavers in the background in one of the boxes/cages of Cabin in the Woods. Which would make sense as Josh Whedon was involved in writing/producing of the film.
There will never be enough of these! I think Phineas & Ferb had one. It was playing in the background and caught my attention but sadly, there's never another browncoat around to validate.

I think I'll go rewatch the entire thing again. For the... I forgot how many times.
You know it occurred to be that it would not take much cannon juggling to put "Cowboy Bebop" and "Firefly" in the same universe. How cool would it be for the Firefly to be chased down by the crew of the Bebop, and a gunfight ensue between Malcom, Cobb, Spike, and Jet. In the end Jet and Spike let the Firefly escape when they realize how corrupt the people who put the bounty on them were.

Except that in Firefly Earth was, well, “Earth that was”, and the verse is some other solar system entirely while in Bebop Earth is just fine and dandy.
You produce the graphic novel, I'll buy it twice.
First episode of Firefly Mal uses an anti air/space emplaced gun and when he activates the HUD to aim it starts up with a Weyland-Yutani logo visible. That puts Firefly in the same universe as the Aliens Movies. Those movies have crossovers with the predator franchise AND they mention that the Tyrel corporation was a competitor for W-Y. The movie Soldier was supposed to start with the battle of Tanhauser gate that was mention in Blade Runner and while that was cut for budget reasons it is mentioned on screen in his military service record and one of the flying cars being seen in a junkyard. So if you want an extended universe Soldier, The Blade Runner moves, The Alien movies, the Predator movies, and the series of Firefly and the following movie Serenity are all set in the same shared universe just at different points in the timeline with the Predator franchise going back several hundred years so I think it would be the earliest and I think Serentiy being the farthest forward since it is around 500 years in the future.
If you want to go into comics and other stuff that may or may not be canon there are even more things that could be linked in like the fact that Batman fought a Predator once but the stuff I listed was all on screen in shows and movies
@@hackerx7329 From what I read up in the making of books they re-used a lot of sci-fi props to offset the cost of production, for example the uniforms of the Alliance guards are Starship Trooper costumes and repurposed guns. So it could just be just a means of saving money instead of connecting universes. But cool if it’s on purpose.

There’s a great one in the Killing. Joel Kinneman has a tattoo across his chest that says “Serenity”. Jewel Staite plays his girlfriend. She says “serenity? Sounds like a strippers name.”
Love all these. Except big bang theory. Man that one sticks out as just being pandering schlock instead of loving tribute.

I've corrected multiple people on this. I'm sorry, it just drives me crazy. Even the channel SciTrek, a Sci-fi channel, continues to do it. If they specify it in the actual show, as Inara did, respect it.

There is also a subtle reference in the tv show The Killing, the male lead has a "Serenity" chest tattoo and his girlfriend is played by Jewel Staite, who played Kaylee in Firefly
