Hell ya. It was real people. Just out there trying to do what's right and hold on to each other. And they did in spite of all there problems and everything the verse could through at them.
I don't think that it was the best TV show ever but I truly do feel that it had the potential to be one of the best TV shows ever which makes the fact that it got canceled way to early all the more heartbreaking
@Miles Prower - I had that feeling the entire time I was watching the show on DVD the first time. I immediately fell in love, and was dreading the upcoming end. Ah, curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!
Firefly proved two fundamental constants of artistic creation. The first is, never underestimate the intelligence and willingness of an audience to appreciate novel, imaginative story-telling. Second, never expect suits and bean counters to possess the intelligence and imagination to appreciate novel, ground-breaking artistic endeavors. Such is life, same as it ever was.
I came back to re-watch because I recently fell in love with Lucifer and found out how Fox pulled the same shit and the show was saved by Netflix after online uproar... My heart just broke to a million pieces because Firefly could have used such a rescue and totally deserved it!
This show was so far ahead of its time... 'Superpower collaboration', 'Mixed "race" marriage', 'Same sex being together', the list goes on.. As much as Fox used to be a union, collaboration, an amalgamation of different ideas and backgrounds, this 'broadcasting station' killed this series at the brink of growing into the right winged company it is today. Form omnibenevolence to all out racist in 3 seconds, this is the smoking gun of power corrupting. ..This series deserves a reboot, so gorram rutting guay it's not funny anymore. I know Ron won't have a chance to be part of it, but Morgan or Denzel might be free. And the rest of the family wouldn't hesitate to show what used to be part of the dream which made a certain continent great to begin with.
@@dimitri877 Dude, every company does this kind of thing, so to think it only happens at FOX cause its right wing is ridiculous and shows just how small brained you are.
Best sci-fi acting, best sci-fi writing - the best story telling for TV ever. Firefly was too good and therefore had to end. Welcome to the insanity of our ‘end time’.
Man, this show was absolute gold. 2002 was just too early for nuanced, deep, western storytelling like this. This show drops in 2011-2015 and it's still running today.
With the recent success of all the new Star Wars shows(The Mandalorian, Boba Fett, Obi-Wan, Etc.) The studios now know that there is an audience for a series like Firefly. I hope someone sees the potential and brings it back.
I became rather obsessed with Firefly in my late teens the year Serenity came out. Ive been rewatching the series after nearly 15 years and damn. There are some things that I rewatch and cringe or get bored or find it derivative etc. But this show has aged perfectly. Even the slightly dated sci compliments it as its subtle from the budget. Its just so so good.
I agree. No other show grabbed me and made me care so much about the people. Nothing else has done that...and the story...would have loved it to continue and grow..
I’m glad this show came into my life! All these characters, all the stories, this is tv at it’s finest. There will never be another show this good ever! Browncoats forever!!!!!
This kinda hurts in a way cause I just started getting into Firefly and I've already watched Serenity three times so I feel the sting of loss but seeing how tight the cast still is and the pure love they have for each other, the series and the fans and the fans in turn respond the same way is still unbelievable even 15 years later. It's almost hard to describe
The beauty of Firefly is that it was a perfectly formed moment in time. The production team and cast were perfect at that time. It didn't out stay its welcome, fall victim to poor writing, or indifferent acting. Instead, every episode leaves us wishing for more and that is the mark of a great, great show.
Thanks for that. A huge fan. And great to see Ron. We used to hang out in LA in the early '70s. Same great laugh. Ron was a really great and wonderful person.
My one and only favorite I can watch it over and over again and not get burned out it’s too bad it didn’t last what a waste I bet it would possibly still be on 🐾🐾🐾
I JUST NOW found out Ron Glass died from reading the comments. How sad! He was an outstanding actor, even in Barney Miller as a younger actor. FireFly would be difficult to replicate with replacement actors.
I introduced my young son too Angle and then Firefly. I only had my little boy for 11 years before his abusive father and his boring parents took him from me. I made sure he had every season of both. I hope he remembers me. For years he loved those shows😔 And I let him😉Jane just did us in, we loved them all together ❤️ Australia here😔
Only the good die young - Thanks Joss and co. for bringing us this beautiful piece of art - there's not much else that makes me so sad than Firefly gettin the axe way too early, I cry like a baby.... up yours Fox ╭∩╮
I'm so glad they still got to make the feature that they we're talking about hypothetically here. Also glad it was so well-received (as it should be, because it's just as great as the series!). That was one cool bunch of creative people right there!
I'm very late to the party but I just smashed on the session past two days I'm in love with the crew I'm bummed we only got the movie but it rapped it up nicely ! Still though I want more but we always want more of something we can't have thank u to all the people that worked on this project u will forever be remembered in the light of my mind
when this show was on cable tv back in the day, friday night, 8pm. i remember looking forward to the next episode all week long. i love this show, have a huge crush on Kylie, Jane, the hero of mudders, & that aint no Shepard. wonderfuly thought out stories, loved the way it was shot, the way it looked, everything is perfect. thanks for making this
it's 2020 and I just finished firefly season 1, looking for anything firefly related just because I don't want it to end. I really wish they somehow do more of this show with all the new streaming services.
It wasn't one thing that made Firefly great, it was everything. The writing, the cast, the music. It was filmed in a way that made it seem real. The cast cared about each other, and it shows. Even the set was great. This wasn't a Star Trek or Star Wars world. There was something real about the ship. Horses? Actually makes sense. If we were going to other planets we need horses!
Just watched this series and …IT WAS PHENOMENAL… If I were to try to explain why…. I would go on for an hour….. WHY the network let this Incredibly crafted series be canceled ??….. … what an ENORMOUS mistake…. Also LOVED the follow up movie SERENITY ❤️ Haven’t seen a show so well done ,in every possible way ,for a long time… what a shame and what a loss to not be able to continue watching this piece of art
You guys know TNG, right? Well they had a great chemistry as well, which is one of the reasons why it was so good. Imagine what Firely could've been if they didn't cancel it? In the very first season they bonded so much, the vision was incredible - everyone was feeding off of it, and the very first season was brilliant. My god, what have they done... a pox on all their beach houses!
Here in early 2021, I spend a couple days going through old Firefly stuff... conventions, this 'making of', later interviews with the cast.... and the feelings rise. It's only a television show, right. Sure. But every apex point, fulcrum, or golden opportunity is but a few moments of time. Moments come around that are only going to come one time here/now. It could be 'seeing Her', or a kill shot, or taking a good chance for a noble reason. I've feelings of gladness Firefly came around at all.... and red anger at the money-grubbing, no vision, short-sighted, enfeebled attitude by FOX. Hindsight is 20/20. But evaluating all things in context and in situ, their actions are inexplicable and self-defeating. One small example: the theme. Not a primary consideration compared to other aspects. Yet the Firefly theme is arguably one of the most delineating, salient, encapsulating theme songs in the history of American TV. Big claim? Start thinking about it deeply. That's only one point. I will always grind an axe with FOX about Firefly. It was a moment, a chemistry, a union, that was only available that moment, once engendered, and their failure failed millions.
Too bad this series wasn't made today via HBO... It is a top shelf series that only HBO could truly give proper credit to "Firefly" ❤ 🎥 First time I even heard about "Firefly" as a series was on "The Big Bang Theory" on an episode with Summer Glau. I didn't see the piolet episode til late 2021... I was so taken with it I immediately bought the 14 episode series and the "Serenity" movie on TH-cam. Growing up in the 1960s and 70s I was a huge "Star Trek" fan...but til I got into "Firefly", I never thought a future space themed series could top my loyalty to the original "Star Trek".... "Firefly" won my heart and mind as my all time favorite so quickly...it boggles the senses to comprehend.... HOW could a network be so completely and utterly void of sound wisdom by letting a series so epic as "Firefly" tank in less than one season.
The absolute worst decision ever in the history of television was the cancelation of Firefly. It irks me to this day and every time I binge watch this wonderful piece of art. There is a reason it repeatedly ranks #1 in the best SCI-FI series ever produced. Just think of the high-quality storytelling considered when doing such a comparison. A true travesty.
Proof that anyone in the world can do an executive's job better than the ones who screwed us out of this show!!! God bless you Joss Whedon and may Serenity fly again one day!!!
I wonder to what extent Battlestar Galactica, which came out right as Firefly ended, changed the rules in the sense that that series had a long narrative arc and became a huge success. Did BSG prove to networks that viewers had an appetite for a science fiction show where we were going to have to get to know a bunch of characters and their backstories?

I heard a ton of good stuff about Firefly. Finally I have seen it. Well, it is everything people says. Excellent. Maybe too good for 2002 and that was its doom.
Its doom was mainly management on Fox's part. Poor/misleading advertisment, inconsistant time slots in a world without dvr, airing episodes out of order all contributed to people simply not knowing it was on or what it was about at the time. Hence, no-one watched it and Fox cancelled it, not realising the poor viewing were due to there own mis-managment.
The viewers LOVED LOVED LOVED this show! It's sad that no other network picked it up after Fox cancelled it while it was successful. This, Terra Nova and Space: Above and Beyond are timeless.
In another universe, we got 6 seasons of this masterpiece, 2 movies and a spin-off/sitcom where Mal and Inara raise a bunch of Buddhist browncoat mini-thems.
The best thing since Star Trek TOS. At some point Joss needs to come back to this and start where it left off with an new crew ( ship found abandoned in space, sort of thing)
It's 2023, and more than 20 years have slipped by, but the love for this astonishing show only gets stronger. Browncoats!

Rest In Peace Ron Glass 🙏🏼

Well now that Disney owns Fox, maybe we can get a reboot with most of the same actors (Alas, Summer is a bit old to reprise her role)

They were in trouble because most people at the time had never heard of Firefly. I blame FOX.

I believe it in Mandarin
Why doesn't this have 5 million views?!??!

The best thing since Star Trek TOS. At some point Joss needs to come back to this and start where it left off with an new crew ( ship found abandoned in space, sort of thing)
I think it should be left alone
A novel concept. A sci-fi series that worked and had a dignified end instead of shambling on forever as an eternal dead horse franchise.
This was such a good story, now we get dogshit like Batwomen.
Isn't that the truth?
I love Firefly.
We miss you.
