The Watcher was something that always fascinated me. What it was, where it came from, and Gandalf's admission to partly knowing what it might be was something that left me hungry for more information.
@@darion1728 Well, those creatures from warcraft are basicly taken from the Mythos by H.P. Lovecraft, which the guy who made dis serie, also made a serie about ;)
uknownada yeah, as far as authors go, Tolkien phuckin crushed it! The Silmarillion is the best book ive ever read to this day; and whoever did these videos seems quite talented
I like how the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings still feel important (After all, it is the fall of the last great dragon and the 2nd Dark Lord), but are still only one story in a large world with eons of history. It's fun seeing what is only a minor detail or a great anomaly when compared to Middle Earth as a whole. Like how Sauron is much weaker than Morgoth, but Sauron was also smarter and created greater creatures (improved trolls and created Uruk-hai) to make up for it. Tolkien might be one of the best world builders ever. He didn't insult what people liked by making his main stories feel unimportant and underwhelming, but also acknowledged that the most well known things do not have to be the most important either.
tokus420 actually you should read the full versions of children of hurin and beren and luthien. Christopher Tolkien (jjr's son) made a wonderful work on those books, and they're much more detailed than the versions in silmarillion. I found them beautiful!
They might as well be. If Arda is our world in a different age, then the Nameless things would be those who are fossilized from the ocean's depth and elsewhere. Beings like dinosaurs and sea monsters would definitely fit the quota, as the idea of dinosaurs inhabiting molten pockets deep beneath the crust of the earth has been a theme for generations, and technically sea creatures, of which there is zero information on in Tolkien's legendarium, live far below the depths of mountains. In the end, the Nameless things will always remain a mystery to be pondered upon, but the idea that they are the prehistoric, dark and shadowed creatures of Earth's own past, or that they may be creatures akin to Cthulhu is fascinating to ponder on.
They might be what exists in the "nothingness" of Christian mythology. Basically formed chaos within the unknown realm in the creation mythos. Lovecraftian horrors were mostly grand stories exaggerating things HP Lovecraft was known to fear. Fear of the unknown and fear of others being the chief themes.
@@ChristAliveForevermore Dinosaurs would fit more the 'creatures of horn and bone' made from Morgoth's initial corruption from the Age of Lamps. I think some letters connect the Nazgul flying mounts to Pterosaurs in a vague sense.
nameless things, older than gods, hiding in the depths of the world. hmmm Cuthulhu in middle earth, now dosent that sound like a sweet deal. what of vampires and fell beasts or the barrow wights and dwimerlaikes
00784865S That's what I thought the moment he said it. That wouldn't surprise me, considering that much of Tolkien's inspiration for Middle Earth comes from Norse mythology. Hell, even using Middle Earth to name the central setting (where Men live) is directly from Norse mythology, so I would wager that some of that influence was present when he wrote of those ancient things gnawing at the deepest part of the world
If anyone says "why didn't they just fly on an eagle's back to mount doom." That's why I tell people to read the books because that's a detail that's mentioned. The eagles were too afraid to go near the gates of Mordor.
I'd say there's even less information about them than the nameless things. Like I said in the video, this isn't a complete compilation of all creatures in Arda.
Jackal head According to lotr wikia the Fell Beasts were created by Sauron in a pit of darkness within the depths of Mordor. Not much info on them apart from that.
Glad to see that you correctly named the creator of the dwarves in your video about them. in this one you said they were created by Eru Illuvatar and I was like "no but wait it was Oromë or somebody, it was a whole big scandal!"
I think some of the unexplained creatures of Middle Earth are awesome! The Stone Giants are the ones I wonder about the most though, they are only mentioned once in The Hobbit! Apparently there were Vampires in Middle Earth, though it is explained that are just much larger Bats I wonder why call them vampires? With the Trolls, apparently there were different species of trolls and that some of the Trolls were intelligent enough to speak languages. And as for Shelob Tolkien said that her hide was so strong that not the strength of Man or Elf could pierce it and that it was be her own strength when she tried to crush Sam that drove Sting into her abdomen.
Hi there TheExploringSeries, and thanks for this video. Nevertheless, I just 1 note: Mumakils where originally tamed by the Tauredain (kinda the Maya's of Middle Earth) who lived in the jungles of far harad, to then be taken away by there everlasting nemesises, the Moredain, who inhabited the far harad savannah. This happened during the time Sauron started swaying both the Haradrim and the Moredains to his cause, but the Tauredians refuced. This is also the cause of the rivalry between the to tribes. At some point during this time, the Tauredians tried conquering another tribe (which I can't quite remember the name of right now) which was allied with the Moredains. The Moredains saw this as a golden opportunity, and waged war against the Tauredains. They won, and to fruther mock their long time foes, they took away all the mumakils they could find in the jungles and gifted them to the Haradrim, which they also allied with. That is how the mumakil came into possesion of the Haradrim. Just wanted to clear this out, for the Lotr nerd I am. I do love ure content nevertheless. Keep up te good work
The Nameless Things feel like they were inspired by Lovecraft's works, in some way. With how you described Gandalf being reluctant to talk about them (the less you know, the better) and even Sauron not knowing them (a mystery/possibly a horror more ancient then you could believe). I guess it makes sense that we never learn much about them. Because, if Tolkien was indeed inspired by Lovecraft when creating the Nqmeless Things, then it's possible that characters that got too much contact with them would go mad or meet a horrible demise, as did most if not all Lovecraft protagonists.
The "nameless things" dwelt in the depth of the Misty Mountains is the Balrog. That's what Saruman meant to say when he was talking and warning Gandalf.
One thing I must know - what lies east of Rhun? Many times have I sent my most valient knights and bravest explorers to discover the lands east of Rhun, yet many years keep pasing and they ne'er yet return.

Pretty much the entirety of Gollum's story can be found in the LotR movies and the first Hobbit movie. He said 5 percent know about it and .1 percent of people get stuck there and it’s really rare for people to go there bc they usually go straight to hell or heaven. He described the atmosphere the same way I described it as dark, foggy, weird smell, cold and moonlight above. This isn’t no coincidence it has to be real. I asked him how he knew and he said the psycodelics explained it to him. When he had the vision of middle earth he said his soul wanted to go there but he had to fight it from going there. My soul went there and I had to fight my way out and when I fought my way out I made it to heaven. Heaven and middle earth both felt like eternity. I got sent back to earth but I wanted to go back to heaven I was sad but happy I wasn’t in hell
