GoPro also has the advantage of keeping your hands warm in winter when it overheats.

My X3 hasnt turned off from heat, but it will definitely keep my hands warm. All cameras get hot...

I have the Insta360 X2 and the Hero10, and you make some great points here. But I still seem to use the GoPro more, especially when I'm combing video from different cameras. And one big difference is the GoPro is rugged, it can be dropped, fall over on a tripod. The Insta360 is more fragile, you have baby it like a real camera or smartphone. But the X3 does allow you to be more creative. Great video Shawn, and thanks for sharing.
did you look into protective cases for the Insta?

@@Yowzoe I have a lens cover on my x2, but it causes the image to lose a bit of its quality, and the lens cover is not made of the best quality, of which you get scratches on it, which can then be seen in the video.

It is a great little camera. There is a lot you can do with it. Since I’ve been on the road, I find myself using more than my GoPro

Just bought hero11 black and battery is draining quick even when not in use. My hero4 has better battery sustainment.
X3 is the perfect 2 in 1 4k camera.
That is, you can use it as either a 360 camera or as a single lens 4k camera.
The only problem with the x3, which makes an action camera significantly better at 1 lens, is that the x3 lens is not the most robust for situations where you are in motion and you just can't replace the x3 lens if you get a scratch.

I bought the GoPro Hero 9 several years ago and it has issues with heat and shuts down. Does the GoPro Hero 11 solve that? Or, should I get the Insta360 X3? Or, something else? Love your channel!
Excellent video. Have u done the battery life comparison for these 2 cameras? My old gopro10 battery life is horrible so I don’t use it that much these days.
my first gopro was the gopro 3, later a 7 black. the battery was still horrible and it got hot as hell always^^

Awesome will not regret it. There’s so much you can do with it. A little bit of a learning curve if you’re coming from a traditional action camera but very easy to pick up.
Good solid video Shawn….is the editing software available for the iPad? I know you’re a mobile guy so I suspect that it is?
Yes, indeed it is. It works great on an iPad. In fact, that’s how I do most of my 360 editing with it.

I'm still undecided. My usage would solely be for Dragon Boat. To record the team paddling while steering the boat. I will be using a head mount. One important feature is GPS to show our speed as an overlay. I'm not sure how the Insta360 gps addon would perform.

G'day shawn. I'd probably go with the 360, but it's so bloody expensive here in Australia.
But gopro has faaar better picture/video quality compared to X3 right? My use case is recording virtual walks in well lit area like on a trip and then enjoy it later on a VR headset . I really want the 360 video but the quality looks horrible in X3. Any suggestions?

Footage that was not shot on the Action. Cameras was filmed on my iPhone 14 pro max. The talking head shots.
GoPro for me. It’s simple for a non techie the lens doesn’t scratch easily. And much easier to quick edit on the app.
Really useful comparison. I’ve always had GoPro’s but have been increasingly disappointed with the cost vs durability. Add the obvious benefits of shooting in 360 and only requiring one camera to deliver multiple viewing angles and the choice in my opinion is pretty simple. Thanks Sean 👍

You're looking great, Shawn - thanks for the comparison! I have both of these cameras, and tend to find the GoPro Hero 11's 10-bit more useful. I am turned off by the social media aspects of the Insta360 app, and the X3 requires much more post-processing than the GoPro for quick, usable footage. I prefer the replaceable lens on the GoPro, versus the very exposed glass on the X3. I use my videos for student learning. I am disappointed I can't easily share the X3's 360 videos (except to TH-cam) so viewers can pan around as they watch without a proprietary viewer app.

Yes, indeed that was recorded on the iPhone 13. And then I was using the Dji mic plugged into it. For me it’s the only camera I really need. I think it does a good job.

Is that the insta 360 mic mount? I got it for my dji wireless and it doesn’t really lock in. It’s ok for walking around but no way I can use it for snowboarding or any activity like that or it falls off. Looking for another mount or I’ll end up buying the rode I think to solve that.
Yes, it is. Indeed, if you’re doing rough activities, it might shake loose. I wonder if something like an elastic band would hold it on tighter

Very helpful video. I am so frustrated with GoPro - overheating, etc., and have been looking for a good alternative.
This video doesn’t show what I was interested in, so I’m not sure. My use would be to record theme park ride POVs in low light levels. I’m finally upgrading my old GoPro Hero6 Black because it is terrible at low-light video, being handily beaten by my last two iPhones (a Xs and a 13 Pro) when filming in 4K60.
I had the gopro 11 but sold it cause it freezes all the time and it is a bit a pain to use

I have the GoPro 6, 8, and 10 - they produce the best picture quality... for a price. The overheating, the unreliable software, the general bugginess, crashes, and I just cannot trust it. I will not be buying any future models. Insta looks interesting though..
gopro 3&7hero here. youre completly right xD stucks, gets hot as hell(why are they black? don‘t makes sense in the sun),battery life… my next will be the 360.
I have a stupid question though, regarding the output resolution for X3. Does the final resolution is 5.7K as advertised?
It is combined so when exporting as 360 it’s at that resolution but when exporting a spherical video as a Fixed frame video it’s 1080. Or you can record in single lens mode, which you can then record up to 4K

@@AirPhotography you're welcome. Something to keep in mind with the Insta X.3 there are people out there like me, who had audio syncing issues with it match in the movement of my mouth. I discovered this issue was caused by the app because people like edit videos on the Insta app. They have to delete the app and reinstall to fix the audio Syncing issue

You mentioned GoPro doesn’t have a option like the insta360 3 with the selfie stick. Wrong GoPro does have the Max 360 camera though still not as good as the insta360x3
I think he meant that the gopro 11 doesn't have that option.

They’re both decent cameras the go pro max is starting to show its age. And the editing features aren’t quite as robust in the goPro app

That is the Traxxas TRX4 with traxx. When you purchase it comes with tires also the tracks. It’s a great little crawler.
Go pros battery lasts for how many hours??? My insta one x2 only for 1 hour so need always 2-3 batteries so what about gopro
Depending what resolution you’re recording in gopros at 4K or 5K typically last less than an hour and a half

Very informative but also one sided. It would have been nice to share some of the downsides of the Insta360, as well as some of the upsides of the GoPro Hero 11. This video is more of a these are the cool features of the Insta360, rather than an actual comparison. I was looking for a comparison video, but this was unfortunately not it.
That's a very lousy statement. How in the world do you claim that this review is one-sided. The review was very objective and very informative.
I personally prefer Gopro

X3's lens are soooo easy to scratch and lengthy replacement/repair process including shipping it to CHINA. Also GoPro is way better to take photos under the water and waterproof - this is all about SUMMER!

"Traditional action camera"... what world do I live on.... Traditional cameras took 3-5 days to develop film at Walgreens or the local Camera Shop. The future is here, and it's insane.
I will never buy an Insta 360 Camera again, they will never beat the GoPro in action cameras, neither will DJI.
