You can't go wrong with DJI. I've owned numerous GoPro's and to say that I became fed up with overheating GoPros would be an understatement. So they can come up with as many versions as they want, no more fooling me more than once. My DJI Action 3 has NEVER once failed me, never once overheated. And when your filming the last thing you want to find out is that your GoPro overheated an hour ago while you were on the road. As for the rest, the stabilization and picture quality are great.
Today I used my action 4 indoor with battery installed and the same time usb charging, it recorded under 4k 30fps for continuous 355 minutes without any overheating issue! Way to go, action 4!
@@happy-pingpong you might want to check in with customer support. I have been recording and streaming at the same time for more than two hours at 1080p30 with H11. Also 4k30 should definitely not overheat at room temperature. H12 is further improved.
Can I ask? Does dji action 4 have the feature just like GoPro 11 that you can make your videos in different sizes in one shot? I don’t know what’s the term for that. Thank you
Something not mentioned, but is a big deal for me is the easy and practical way the Action 4 works with the DJI Mic, and the unfortunate way the GoPro works with external mics.
Those canola fields you flew over with the drones are actually ours. We farm there up to around the wind turbines and then on the other side of the N2. Was surprised to see it on a TH-cam camera review. Great video👍
I thought for the daylight comparison, you should set the Fov same, cause action4 have a way large fov than gp12, so the footage will contain more shadow parts, set action4 standard vs gopro wide, you ll find action got a high dynamic range than gopro
One thing that DJI appears to have removed that was really useful to my application of recording my car footage is spot metering, where there is large variances in lighting levels inside/outside, having the camera decide it wants the exterior to be washed out is of no use. It would be good to see if this is actually removed or hidden in the menus and GoPro has never had it? The old DJI's you pressed and held on the screen and could set the location.
Great comparison. I don't own any camera yet but I want one to film my (thru) hikes. So I'm going for the DJI Action 4 because of the lower light quality and battery life.
I have an A4, and it’s really good. But if you’re doing hikes, a 360 camera such as the Insta 360 X3 would be better. It has fairly similar image quality, not as good as A4 but still produces stunning videos. The only reason why I would recommend a 360 camera for hiking is because you won’t have to worry about aiming the camera, you can just sorta hold it or mount it and you can still make the video look around and stuff.
Also kind o hesitant right now. But I slightly prefer the lowlights capability and durability & reliability of action4. The magnetic mounts are insane! Plus the GPS remote controller, it should be fun!
The only thing that bums me out about the remote is I've heard it can't wake the camera after it goes into sleep mode which, if true, definitely hurts its usefulness. For me at least.
I live in an area where temperatures, during 5 months of the year, get between 100 and 130 degrees F. I don't think I have an option other than the DJI action 4.
Got this new DJI osmo action 4, mainly my for the low light and better audio, and it’s the best thing I have done. I’m completely happy with its stabilisation, performance and durability.
a nice comparison bro, im actually confused about which one to buy for fpv. im making drone tours in indoors and outdoors, buut i really loved the low light of action 4
You didnt bring up the new features that the GoPro now does which is the Bluetooth Headset connection that lets you record audio directly to the Gopro and the timecode sync.... What I would like to know is 1 does the Action 4 do either of these and 2 do you know if the Sena 10c or the 50c camera will work with the Gopro to record directly to the Gopro from the Sena
Did you mention if the gopro still hangs and freezes? That's thats a major problem. Still think the DJI Action 4 is the best overall. No fussing around.
A really tough week for all the Gopro affiliate reviewers to review something which is basically a Gopro 11S 🤣 DJI laughing all the way to the bank this time round 😛
Hahaha 😂 I am curious to see how the 12 sells. You are right that the updates aren’t that big, but to be honest they are just enough for me to potentially consider making it better than the Action 4.
No it’s not misspoken. The Action 4 looks smooth because it’s fixed to the car. The GoPro is “trying” to stablise by moving the image around. If set on Timelapse mode it looks like the Action 4 does.
@@the_nomadic_ajith Assuming the camera stays on and actually records the footage, and at least with the Hero 11 that was not a given. Hopefully for the Hero 12 they've ironed some of that out. I guess we'll find out in the coming weeks as more reviews roll out.
@@knightexzero7107 Yeah I figured. So it doesn't really matter how godlike the image quality is if the thing shuts down super quick and you miss what you wanted to film. I'd rather have a less optimal video of a thing I want to remember forever rather than a 4K memory and no real footage because my camera overheated and shut down. Chances are when I get my Action 4 I probably won't even bother filming in 4K. I imagine 2.7k is about as high as I'll go unless it's for very short clips. I just sold off two GoPro 7's and upgraded to an Action 4. No regrets so far. Video quality aside, some of DJI's base features give them an advantage. Including their mounting system.
One of the most honest comparisons. I’d love to see a comparison of both cameras maintaining a level horizon when rigged directly to a motor vehicle and exposed to engine vibrations
One thing is very bad in the GoPro. Picture out of GoPro is to much red. Because of that picture is not natural and i dont want redigate later this problem Action 4 is without this problem.
Can I just say what a wonderful video this is, very in-depth and informative. I'm the first to admit, I'm a GoPro fanboy and recently upgraded from the Hero 9 to the Hero 12. Obviously there has been complaints of overheating but due to the style of videos I make it's really not something that will ever cause an issue. That being said, your video has really opened my eyes to the Action 4 from DJI and I like DJI as a brand as I own their drones. I'll certainly be considering their cameras going forward based on your review. Thank you!
You should do a test where you leave the battery in the camera and let it sit for a while. My Hero 7 Blk eats batteries for breakfast switched off doing nothing. I had the Gopro and an OA3 sitting in a camera bag for 6 months, when I tried to switch them on the Gopro was completely dead while the OA4 battery was still at 100% ready to go. Gopros are great when they work but they don't have the rock solid carved from stone reliability of the OA3/4s. I actually feel angry every time I see my Gopros sitting on the desk, they had so many years to get it right where DJI did it in 3 iterations. Imagine comparing an OA12 to a Hero 12.
When you compared the time lapse functionality, why didn't you talk about the DJI's Hyperlapse? It's stabilized. And the GoPro out of the box vs the DJI is a more direct comparison between the two cameras. Adding the mod to the GoPro is just trying to fix shortcomings it has from the factory. Not to mention, how much more does it cost on top of the camera itself?
It's a fair comparison. For such a small additional cost especially now with the sale most people will get the max lens as well unless they want to make a mistake.
I bought the Action 4. Here's why: Although the GoPro looks ever so slightly better when it comes to daytime filming, daytime image stabilization, and can record in 5.3K that's pretty much where the positives stop. I mean the DJI checks off so many more boxes.

How about bitrate? What bitrates can you set with these two cameras? With older DJI, a common complaint was you could set only very high bitrates, so the files ended up being too large (sometimes a lower bitrate and a smaller file are better).
8:56 how I thought, gopro has also amazing a lot of noise and less details in not dark room... I prefer less noise and details than extreme dynamic range :P

That’s basically shooting in the 8:7 aspect ratio. The GoPro has an almost square sensor. So in simple terms you the Action 4 doesn’t have that. It can shoot 4:3 though which is pretty close to square
easy. pocket 2. even easier. iPhone with a gimbal. it's because of the low light. F1.8 in the pocket. but the iPhone is even better. just that it will not be good for long time frames. but it's the best. add a gimbal to help. I think insta360 is better than dji now UNLESS pocketability is your number one requirement. otherwise the insta360 can articulate better. the dji osmo mobile is best with just holding the camera straight. once you try to aim it at different directions, it start to hit arm limitation very fast as it's designed for the pocket factor rather than the usability

When you compared the GP-LOG footage, was the OA4 in DLOG-M?
Yes! Sorry I should have mentioned that. It was D-Log M on the Action 4
Yeh that’s totally fair! It’s all about use case though. Most people use GoPros outdoors where the lighting is bright and good.
@@LukeMaximoBell1 problem with gopro it has to be perfect condition. when ski is more cloudy and you are in forest from iso 100 it goes to iso 800 and grain in hero is huge compare to dji action 4 where in iso 3200 is accepteble
Very good comparison!! For the battery test please turn off gps in go pro 11. That Al should make a difference.
Hey! I did actually make sure GPS was off for the GoPro 11. Sorry, I can’t mention everything in the video otherwise it will be 2 hours long 😂
Can go pro be used as a dash cam also?
Can I ask? Does dji action 4 have the feature just like GoPro 11 that you can make your videos in different sizes in one shot? I don’t know what’s the term for that. Thank you
That’s basically shooting in the 8:7 aspect ratio. The GoPro has an almost square sensor. So in simple terms you the Action 4 doesn’t have that. It can shoot 4:3 though which is pretty close to square
Thank you for Great Comparison video!!
This made me even more excited for the Action 4!
Hi Luke, what gear do you use to mount your action cameras on your avatar?
I use the Axisflying 3.5 inch upgrade kit on my Avata.
Just found your channel, only 80K subscriber? Add one more! Great presentations.
on their website gopro says HDR works with 5k, u said 4k30, which is it?
16:9 is up to 5.3K. 8:7 is up to 4K which is the one I always use.
Great comparison, thanks for sharing.
Fantastic review! Thank you for the breakdown 🔥
I’m confused between Action 4 and Pocket 2. I mostly want to capture walking videos in both daytime and evening. Any suggestion guys??
DJI Pocket 2 for sure.
I've got the Pocket 2. Amazing in low light, and great for walking or driving videos.
easy. pocket 2. even easier. iPhone with a gimbal.
it's because of the low light.
HOW do I add LOTS OF LIGHT? Good luck
These action cams need F2.2 or F1.8
Man in the shade at 1080 p my GoPro 11 last like 22 minutes and froze up it was 80 degrees tho
