This was recorded on the same day and rehearsal back room as the famous “Creep”. The tour lineup was still fresh and feeling each other out, the double bass solo was actually the first time the group saw it, Adam & Casey just fooled around and put it together on the side, you can see the pleasant curiosity on the ladies faces and the indecisiveness in Casey’s and Adam’s hand and body placement, they were just winging it, boring tour life does that to energetic talented musicians just having fun👍
As a big Haley fan, I'll recommend some Morgan James as I've followed her since seeing her on the 2015 tour this video and "Creep" came from, My favorite Morgan/PMJ cover is "Maps", other PMJ covers w/ Morgan that are exceptional are her cover of "Dream On" and "Take Me To Church". Morgan is a Julliard graduate who studied in Opera but chose to make her career in Soul/Blues and dabbles in some Broadway. My favorite non-PMJ Morgan cover is "Fooled Around and Fell in Love", as far as a MJ originals, Check out any of her songs on her album "Hunter"
Some context around this video and the 3 ladies. Haley had just joined the troupe a week earlier in Berlin. PMJ"s 2015 European tour was Haley's first professional tour after American Idol. They toured Europe, the US, Australia and some Asian cities in what turned out to be one of PMJ's greatest line ups. These trio of ladies became a very tight friend group (even posting some Andrews Sisters like clips on social media) It could be argued that Haley learned a lot of her stage presence from such a long tour w/ Morgan and Ariana, as one of Haley's criticisms during Idol was she basically had one 'move', waving her off hand (the one not holding the mic) above her head.
It is absolutely impossible to listen to this and not have a huge smile on your face while dancing in your chair. Great reaction! I love it when the hidden drummer gets up and waves at the end lol
The 3rd singer, Ariana Savalas is kind of celebrity royalty. She's the daughter of famous TV & film actor Telly Savalas (probably best known for playing the lead in the 1970s TV series "Kojak")
I keep hoping that Morgan James gets a turn in a Broadway musical - she has the perfect voice and style for it. (The final 3-part harmony is a nod to the Andrews Sisters of the 1940s, and they really do it perfectly.)
Analysis is interesting to listen to, especially for non musicians. I never thought about how matching vowels are important in harmonizing as well. Thank you!
Telly Savalas' daughter, Morgan James is now middle age after cutting her hair in that middle age style, and the bearded bass, Casey Abrams, met and made life long friends with Haley when they both appeared on American Idol. Haven't enjoyed AI since until this year with Abi Carter.
another cool reaction daniel... this was the first postmodern jukebox i saw and still one of my favorites. it does excellent job of representing the overall experience of what pmj does so well. not just the excellent vocalist, musicians and arrangement but meticulous implementation of "vintage" character though their outfits, expressions, movements and setting that virtually transfers you back in time. its also great how each of the women are unique in vocal attributes and styles yet can then also harmonize so well together... in addition, the dual bass play was very creative touch and notice how it ends with the bass getting the last word. note this is the same zurich studio and day they performed "creep"... i think what is so phenomenal about haley is not just her amazing silk to sandpaper voice but also her character and soul that she puts into the performances. even when she uses very little of her unique vocal acrobatics, her pure raw soft voice is amazing like in the intro of "creep". you see this even more in her solo double platinum cover of "can't help falling in love" for the extra gum commercial which is truly stunning and frequently described as what love sounds like here: (th-cam.com/video/_uNpEbt7w_o/w-d-xo.html )
This video was recorded on the same day and studio, in Zurich , as Haley’s great rendition of Creep. No hints of Haley being afflicted with a cold or flu, as some keep suggesting. This is literally a 1, 2, KO punch from Haley.
HAley had justr joined the collective the week before and had done something like five shows in the last four days. The day they recorded these two videos (and another one but I don't remember what it was) with Creep being last she wasn't sick but her voice was simply worn out. Creep was actually done in one take at the end of the day. Haley wanted to do it again but Scott assured her that the first one was fine
What a great reaction! Subscribed! I especially like how you listened through once, then went back. I think a lot gets lost when reactors constantly pause on the first listen, I get it, just enjoyed your method more. And, of course, lots of knowledgeable insight, which is always appreciated.
Haley has more tools in her toolbox than any two singers need. Morgan? Well she's Morgan James, isn't she? and then there's Ariana. Her years as a cabaret singer have honed her voice to a gorgeous honey/bourbon blend flowing from her vocal chords. Then what can we say about the musicians themselves? Rarely have I seen the same line-up but whoever Scott manages to recruit the best collection of session men and floaters available.
For more Morgan James with PMJ, Dream On is a good one. For more Hayley Reinhart with PMJ, Don't Speak a good choice. There are also plenty of excellent PMJ covers with other guest stars, many.
I keep coming back to postmodern jukebox as just a first rate band. Scott bradlee making fantastic arrangements and jazz piano. He always is finding stellar vocalists and band members. But most will admit the european tour with Haley reinhart, morgan James, Ariana Savalas, Casey Abrams was the best tour they ever did. You should also check out miche braden, gunhilde carling, and their actual Andrew sisters covers of the Spice girls in addition to these lovely artists in this song.
Casey and Haley met on American Idol in 2011. The audience came to know him as a jazz influenced musician. Haley on the other hand was left a blank slate. No one knew of her jazz chops until the two did a duet of Moanin' that included them scatting. It was a results night performance (non-competitive) that astonished the judges: th-cam.com/video/bVMYCDLAF4E/w-d-xo.html
Morgan James is as amazing as Haley, with a different style and an incredible vocal range. You should react to Dream On, another PMJ adaptation. Morgan and Haley also complement each other very smoothly, you can see that in their version of Dear Prudence, the Beatles song.
If you would like to review Haley as Haley and not Jessica rabbit check out she and her dad doing Can’t find my way home at Chess records Best version, and you get to hear her speaking voice

One of the best bands in the world!

I love watching you, You’re so happy watching these videos. Also enjoy the education that you give us.

Great reaction! I've seen Haley and Morgan perform live and each are amazing singers. PMJ is currently on tour and I will see them later this year.

Black Hole Sun and Oops I Did It Again with PMJ and her are fabolous too!!
Saw PMJ last Feb, an amazing experience

Instant thumbs up! ❤
Hells yeah love. Everyone has already said it.
Do more dude
Haley's voice in a simple term would be described in one word, "SULTRY"

Time to go through a lot of Morgan James. This was barely scratching her skill
Start with pmjb but then expand out beyond that; she’s trained at juliard but loves Motown and soul
A lot of people will mention Haley and Morgan, but you should also check Ariana out. She has some amazing covers with PMJ.
If you would like to review Haley as Haley and not Jessica rabbit check out she and her dad doing Can’t find my way home at Chess records Best version, and you get to hear her speaking voice
