Really enjoyed your analysis of this! I just love the energy and power of this song. Rest assured, David takes very, very good care of his voice, especially now that he's older. If you're interested in learning something about harsh vocals, on 5/31/24 Elizabeth of The Charismatic Voice released a video of some research she's involved in where an MRI was done on Will Ramos performing harsh vocals. They also put tiny needles in this throat muscles to collect some other data. It was fascinating! and no true vocal folds were harmed in the making, lol. I would love to see an analysis of Stupify!!!!

David has stated in many interviews he was taught the " healthy way" to sing with grit and he still has regular check in sessions with his vocal coach.😊🤘

Disturbed just has this driving force behind their music that you can't help but just get carried away in the vibe. As far as the way he's singing.. Taras has done that a little in ZHU - Faded that he and Improver did for their GBB tag team wildcard this year. Great reaction as always, and it's so fun to see how much you get into the music.

Great reaction as others have said you should check out what they have to say after the vid. This one they talk about how this is Tim’s original he wrote and sang before being with Home Free. They have great originals with Home free and there Solo work as well.

I see where this is Jeff showing off his tremendous skill and voice but I dont think he does the song justice. He’s singing his technicalities not connecting with the song itself and that’s an injustice of a deep haunting song of the human condition. He’s great but not this arrangement.

I really like how you play the whole song through and then go back to the beginning and evaluate. I'd love to hear you do a reaction on Emma Kok with Andre Rieu, Voila. Listen to the intro Andre does to get an understanding of this beautiful singer. Voila came in 2nd in the Eurovision competition this yr. although it wasn't Emma who sang it there.

This is such a good song! Tim, Chance & Austin are each song writers so there are lots of originals as well as covers. I think you might also enjoy Rob & Austin's video "Two Country Singers Try Singing Opera" - it will surprise you (it's on Austin Brown's channel). Home Free is also ego-free. They don't have a lead singer. Regardless of who wrote it, whoever sounds best, sings it (i.e. Austin wrote "Give Me a Sign" and sings back-up).

Such a driving version of this one. Did you notice the gramaphone? He added it to his endings and I love seeing it in some of his props in the videos. Consider Ain't No Sunshine, another really good one is Man of Constant Sorrow.

I do not think there is anyone alive today who has heard the 'original' version. The song can be reliably traced back to the 1890's with the first known recording in 1933 by Clarence Ashley. I'm totally with @jackyfriedman1963, when you watch Geoff's hands closely, you get a split second to prepare for those "pit of hell"-notes 😂🙈 Was never a fan of this song when the Animals did it, but love Geoff's version ❤ Same with "Ain't no sunshine" 😉👍🏻 Love it so much when he flexes up and down the octaves and his voice always touches my heart, he never does sth. without putting many emotions in it 🫶🏻

This is one of my gazillion favorites of Geoff's. When I recommend it, I always do it with a warning that he is showing off. He starts off with that melancholy sound and speed that tugs on your heartstrings. Then the guitar comes in and we are off to the races. The artistic choice he makes NOT to enunciate each word clearly is beautiful but annoys some reactors. He hits the A4 that is the high note in the original, but he does not showcase it. His use of props is interesting. The Zippo lighter, the trunk lid falling, the candle lighting (at not to do what I've done), and the gramophone. You see the gramophone emblem at the end of his pieces now, but he put the physical one in several of his covers. That was about the time he turned 40 or 41 and billed himself as old and boring. I think his best solo arrangement is God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. You don't have to wait for Christmas, ya know.

Watch Geoff's hands. When he's going to sing super low he usually faces his hand up instead of down. His hand moves to the range of what he is singing. His vocal coach taught him that when he was a teen. He'll be 44 in August. The only time he doesn't is what he uses both hands for something during a video. Like in "Monster Mash". He was Dr Frankenstein and 3 of his clones were 3 monsters (Dracula, werewolf and Frankenstein's monster). His wife Kathy did a cameo at the end. The dance his monsters did was a big hit. Very catchy and fun.

I really like how you break down the singers and their voice. I have watched every Disturbed Sounds of Silence reaction. Yours was the best!! I am sharing a couple of Opera singers from the voice. So many people put Opera into a box and cant see them singing any other way. This is my favorite Tim original, and I am not even sure there is a close second (except for "Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget" - for a different vibe). Truth be told, I actually like Tim's original version before Home Free just a smidge more than this one because I love the guitar in the beginning and the background instrumental throughout. But I like his solo line in this one better, as he has honed his vocal skills over the years and his vocal runs are astounding for a bass even in the low register. I also love Adam's tom drums. He has it down to a science yet still makes it feel organic imo. Anyway, love your analysis. Thank you for reacting to the best of the best. BTW I'm in NOLA (military transfer here). And you're absolutely right about this place. The people are great and the music is beyond that even. My dogs are named Gumbo and Roux, actually. I love this place :)

Even though I've always loved the song, it still gives me an extra boost when you "see" them singing it and a video to go with it. Beautifully sung, great background vocals, amazing beatboxing which is not too overwhelming here and don't forget the incredible bass

Sure has been fun following Home Free the last 5 years (for me) I know there are many on here who have been trailing them for a very long time. They really are the only group I have been following of the last 5 years, period. The capability of excellence by each of the individuals in this group is off the charts awesome that allows them the flexibility to do so many types of vocalizations and to do it exceptionally well. I have not found a genre they are afraid to tackle whether individually or as a group they are amazing. Then top that off with their arrangements that augment the presentation to be "Home Free" owned. ❣
