    This has got to be the best six minutes of golf instruction ever...I don't play much golf but use SC's concepts of a gravity driven swing for tennis and it has completely rewired my game for the better.

    @Fo12dy When playing the ball back, it is important to get centred behind the ball and then understand that the swing is not starting from a static position; you will feel like you need to swing the club more inside from this back of centre position and you should not; see the blur of the club head in front of you as you perform the perpetual motion drill and mimic this arc when you are ready to go with the ball; we have a couple nice threads on this in our forum and you should have a look!

    @MrEasyA1 Exactly; just a hair more closed with the draw; maybe 2 to 5 degrees, and a bit more open with the fade; keep the flight of the ball in mind and release the energy way out to the area you want to start the ball; if you default to the ball, you will release too soon and your fades will become draws and the draws become hooks!

    I used to play that way and in fact have a video that explains it in detail; but now I understand that there is no target line that exists when all you have is an arc to swing on; see "hooks and slices shawn clement" and you will love the soccer analogy. Shawn

    Excellent video presentation and instruction. Ball position advice makes it do much easier to understand and perform than other ways I have tried.

    @itubeutude That is the whole point!! When you kick a soccer ball, and want it to curve to the left, you approach from the inside and kick out to the right using the inside of the foot; so if you feel that the swing is going to the right, then you are on the right track!! Keep the face a bit more closed than usual, swing to the right, feel a nice release or snap of the right hand over the left and observe! See also, "Tilted Spiral" part 3 Thanks for the comment! @oldTOtaper Very good! This is pretty much the amount of time it realistically takes to make the improvements come to life; and I am sure you enjoyed the process on the way and this is the most important part! You keep plotting along and enjoy each lesson, hit the range and with some developing awareness, you wake up a couple years later full of confidence and wide open option in front of you! Thanks for the great comment! Shawn

    I have been making this mistake(for a draw) till now and not getting the results. I always could manage a fade as I was doing what Shawn tells us here. Waiting to go out tomorrow and try and correct my "draws". Thanks Shawn.

    There are other factors that need to be considered and you will find them out sooner or later as you get through my stuff; bottom line is this: You have a picture of what you want the ball to do; you then set up to this picture and you are getting ready to deliver a nice action into this picture and feel that your set up will allow you to perform this task without interference or manipulation; you are in the right position and it should be along these lines; not necessarily perfect but close

    First ove all thank you, thank you, your vids & CD set have made dramatic improvements in my game and its enjoyment.
    Question/concern: I have no problem with the draw. The fade setup seems inconsistant. In some vids there is ~1-2 space between clubface & forward positioned ball at address, in others appears like your clubhead is right up against ball. Please clarify. Thanks again (& again)

    @wardn53 Thanks for the comment! The best Camera out there bar none is the Sony; great lens, hard drive system, touch screen etc...Software I use at work is called "C-Swing" from El Paso Texas; Have a look at my new "Rip the Driver, Shawn Clement" video; I will try to get a long iron video out for you; I also recommend the "Rhythm of the World; Shawn Clement" for you to get the difference between longer and shorter clubs in so far as the rhythm and timing is concerned; Shawn

    @MicrowavedHamster Hey Dude! Thanks for the feedback; I don't mean it that way but I have to say that I earned it and it was my students who pointed out the numbers; see the numbers for yourself with other top 100 teachers; the numbers are staggering...:) Shawn

    Hey Shawn thanks for the tips,helping allot. My normal shape is a draw because my shoulder is closed most of the time but started to hit the fade and it was working perfect, but know it's not fading, it stays left or I push it out to the right, no spin. What am I doing wrong because the timing and hit is solid it's just not turning?Regrads Willie

    @thechessstick Yes; I know how hard it is sometimes to describe it in 500 characters or less...:) Thanks for clearing that up! Shawn

  • @golflessons
    @golflessons  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @thechessstick BOTH fades and draws are with NATURAL descending blows that you NEVER need to think about; I do not know where you got that info but it was not here for sure; nothing personnal but I don't want my students to get the wrong idea; Your driver ball placement is fine though; Shawn

    Great videos. What do you think about how Nicklaus advises hitting draws and fades? Aiming body open or closed with the club face aimed at the target and then swinging along your body line with normal ball position.

    Shawn, First of all, you are an exceptional teacher! I have a question about the fade. When playing the fade, would one still use the braced left tilt? Thank you, Pete

    Hi Shawn, Honestly I feel more comfortable playing straight and get better results rather than thinking about fades and draws. Of course focus is of utmost importance but I feel that one has to be very precise in getting to the target by "working the ball".
    Also though unrelated, wanted to get your inputs/views on "Niblick" by Cleveland. Is it a good idea to have it in the bag or not. Thanks.

    Hey Shawn good to see you putting out quality videos still :o)
    Just wondered do you have any videos or drills when using a weighted swing trainer? Or would you avoid these like the plague?

    Hey Shawn. I'm in my third year of golfing and thanks to you I can now fade or draw the ball. I use to fade the ball and just assumed that was my natural swing. I now know how to correct this or control it so I'm not wondering why my ball is flying right of the green all the time. I get a ton of ball flight so adding that draw shot has helped on windy days or just when I need to get away from fading the ball when my shots are fading too much. One question on this video. What club are you hitting? The ball seems so far up on your fade. Is it a 4 or 5?

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just camera Angle; fade should have the back of the ball touching centre and draw would have the front of the ball touching centre...

    • @D-cs1qt
      @D-cs1qt 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow. That is not as much of a difference in ball position then I thought. It probably explains why I'm constantly drawing the ball more then I want sometimes or fading the ball too much. I have to figure out where the center is better.

    Shawn, hi from the UK. I've only recently found you and have been cramming in your videos like crazy. Your enthusiasm really rubs off and I can't wait to get to the range. I have two questions/requests. Firstly, it would be great to go over setup and alignment basics for the newbies starting this spring. Secondly, I'd really like to hear your take on exercises we can do at the gym (or at home) & another on flexibility.

    Hi, on an older video you lined up more left for a fade and more right for a draw.Is this new method better or is there a time for both methods ?

  • @DanTuber
    @DanTuber 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Shawn, another question. Is it possible to draw the ball if you come over the top?

  • @slapstik89
    @slapstik89 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would it be correct to assume that with a high fade you would tend to aim the ball to land l closer to your target as on a high fade (in particular) the ball will tend to stop more, or ultimately spin back a little (perhaps sideways a little)? Or is that just me? lol

    Hi shawn
    I am having trouble when the ball is back in my stance and I seem to be pushing the ball any suggestions to why I am pushing it or is this another issue altogether not relate to ball position?

  • @markrice9377
    @markrice9377 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    So your feet, (and perhaps your knees and/or hips) and aimed to the left at the Nicklaus picture, but your shoulders and arms are aimed to the right at the Vokey picture because you've centered yourself behind the ball?... Am I understanding this correctly?

    • @WisdominGolfPremium
      @WisdominGolfPremium 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! If you place a ball against a door frame like in my "lead dominant hand shawn clement" video, and you play the door frame a tad back of centre, you will feel the need to get behind the hit by pre turning...

  • @lovetogolf4184
    @lovetogolf4184 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Question: About how many yards do you allow for the ball drawing or fading wind permitting of course. Thank You

    • @WisdominGolfPremium
      @WisdominGolfPremium 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Steven Dusza
      Everyone is different with the amount they are comfortable with; the key is to choose the starting point AND the end point you want to curve the ball; and then you set up to match that picture which is what determines ball position and alignment.

    Hi, when you say open or close the clubface just a litle at adress, how do you mean (by more or less shaft lean, rotation of the hands/arms or by rotation of the club in your grip?)
    Br
    Peter

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Rotation of the club in the grip, good question especially if you have been looking around other instructors...:)
      You want to use the weight of the arms and club to deliver the action so if you lean the shaft forward, this would require a manipulation and would negate the effect of the reaction of the body to the weight of the arms and club in the golf swing...
