Yeah thats 🧢 i’ve lived here for 40 years and the only thing nice in the city is downtown. We have the highest taxes in the state. We have the worst schools in the state probably the country I live in a area where you can’t even get gas after 6:00 PM without getting robbed stop gaslighting people you privileged white people come from the suburbs live here for two years downtown and then you know Detroit😂
You had to bring politics into it. Listen, there is a lot great about Detroit today, but everyone knows it really suffered from globalization and it was the poster child for it for years. That's obviously what Trump was talking about. And even though the population grew recently, it's still way down from where it was in its heyday. You can't take manufacturing away from a manufacturing city and then claim everything is rosy.
As Englishmen but owners of several Mustangs, two friends and I visited 9 years ago and absolutely loved it. We had friends that lived just about 20 minutes outside of Detroit and they had worked in the Motor City for decades, so they made wonderful tour guides! The Henry Ford is the best museum I've ever been to (just beating our own London based Natural History Museum!). Greenfield Village is well worth the entry fee, and as car nuts we also visited Ford's Rouge Plant, where you can see the F150 trucks being built. Detroit is a wonderful city and one we'd love to visit again. Thanks for the great video!
Come back on the weekend and stop at Eastern Market. Also ride the people mover, go to Mexican Village, Cork town / central station, and a meal in Greek Town
The DIA is incredible... It blew my expectations away. Love seeing videos like this on Detroit because my experiences have always been positive. The people are welcoming, architecture is unique, and the food is out of this world. I'd recommend New Yasmeen Bakery in Dearborn. It's a real gem. Mudgie's in Corktown is also delicious for sandwiches.
Thanks for the video! My wife and I would have never known about Detroit or different things Detroit offers if it weren't for this video. Appreciate you.
The city of Detroit should have reimbursed you for this great video, helping to dispel some of its bad reputation mythology. Obviously, it’s still has it’s bad areas, like all cities do, but it’s really on the rebound it seems. I live in Salt Lake City and hope to be able to visit one day.
The famous museums with collections of different, subject matter, the yummy food, the very cool park, the buildings, the famous sculptures, folk arts... so much to see. I had no idea about some of these draws. Thanks Josh and Pops, for being our FANtastic, tour guides.🏡🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Even though I’m from Detroit, I have to admit that Brooklyn brick oven pizza is the best. Proud of our Detroit style pizza though because it’s really good
Detroit is amazing. So is the state of Michigan. I always tell people to not get their impression of Detroit and Michigan from the news or movies like 8Mile.
Love watching you and Pops, that pizza looked sooooo good. Your video changed my thoughts on Detroit, I guess you always only hear the not so good stuff. 🇨🇦
Was born in Detroit and moved to west Michigan at a young age- my parents talk about growing up in Detroit (my moms dad was a Detroit police officer) and I never understood but this video helped me feel more connected to my family’s roots
Thank you for visiting Detroit! Been watching you and Pops for a few years now and I love your videos! This is my hometown and you visited things I have never been to!
Born and raised in Detroit. Lafayette Coney Island is the best. Been going there since the early 60’s. Wished you guy’s could’ve seen and experienced Detroit during the 60’s and 70’s. Watching your video makes me hungry going to Lafayette now❤
If you come back, visit some neighborhoods: Indian Village, West Village, Boston-Edison, Palmer Woods, Bagley and the entire Grandmont-Rosedale Community. All in the city, all vibrant and worth taking a cruise through. Thank you for the wonderful video about our city!
We never thought really about going to Detroit til we seen the videos you & Pop have posted. We are definitely going to check it out! Thanks Josh and Pops!
I’m a local metro Detroiter and you really captured our downtown - place is really coming back and many many more things you can do next time - including all the local sports stadiums just up from campus martias . Another great area is the cork town area near the old tiger stadium and the newly renovated central train station completed by Ford… Thanks for the great video
Josh, you never disappoint! To be honest, I would not have thought of visiting Detroit, nor would I have watched anyone's videos from Detroit. But this video actually surprised me!I loved that you highlighted parts that very few people get to see. Thank you for sharing! Btw... the pizza looked amazing!
Born and raised in Detroit and still here after 46 years. My daughter attended The Henry Ford Academy high school which is inside of The Henry ford museum and Greenfield Village. An amazing high school experience for the students. I love my city. Also a little crazy fact history on the Chair that Abraham Lincoln was shot in. Because of his height, at the Ford's theater, they brought this chair in specifically for him because he was so tall and this chair was lost for years afterwards. It was found being used in a janitors break room at a museum because they didn't know where it was from at first. They recently received the chair at this museum and it still has blood stains on it from the Assassination. The director at the museum has the complete story of the chair.
At 11:15 your looking south into Windsor Ontario Canada that two tone brown lowrise on the left is where my parents lived they had a riverfront view always liked sitting out there on the balcony when visiting them.
Lafayette Coney all the way ftw! I worked across the street for 10 years. You hit a lot of the good stuff for a first timer. Great video. The riverwalk would have been really good. It's nice.
The last time I was at Henry Ford museum it was 1976, too see Santa and one of my class mates yanked his beard off… the good ol days😅 Louis pizza Haze Park is the best pizza!!
THAT BUDDIES PIZZA … LOOKED AMAZING… Made my mouth water .. wish you had seen some of OUR MORE REPUTABLE neighborhoods so tge ones you did see did not leave that memory in your 🧠 !
Great video Josh & Pops! I've been to the Henry Ford museum but didn't know about the other cool spots. And after watching this, I'll have to plan a trip to Detroit and definitely have some coneys & pizza while there.
Thanks for sharing your 24 hours. Man looking at the coney dogs and pizza made me hungry. Detroit is a great city. It has a great airport and great sports stadiums/arenas. You definitely hit some highlights. Might I recommend the following on a return trip: Greenfield Village, The homes of the Ford's (Henry and Edsel's), and the zoo. And if you really want the Detroit experience try to catch a Red Wings game--it isn't called Hockey Town for nothing.
Awesome my TML guys!! We would visit Detroit from Youngstown Ohio every summer to visit family. I’m glad you were able to visit Belle Isle even though the weather was not the best. We used to go there for picnics all the time. Once again you stirred up a lot of precious memories thank you. Besides going back to Detroit for pizza, next time if you get the opportunity, please go to the Renaissance Center. Your friend in Tampa.
Great museums, and good pizza, it seems like the perfect place to visit with my son!! Great video, Josh. And I love how Pops has become a total food critic 😆🙌🏽
I stopped in Detroit on my way to Toronto but didn't get to do much due to getting a late start. When I go back I want to try Vernor's Ginger Ale & there's some restaurant with corned beef egg rolls I want to try (because it sounds weird).
Lafayette Coney is my pick if I’m in Detroit, but Coney Island in Kalamazoo is my favorite because I prefer the drier chili on a Coney. Can’t go wrong with any of them though.
That McDonald’s sign was in my neighborhood until the mid ‘80s. I used to love seeing it on arriving home whenever I had left the area. Was sad to see it gone one day, and then I heard it was in the museum. I grew up watcing the number go up on the -- “millions sold”.
I’ve not been to Detroit yet but I’m already a fan of Detroit style pizza. If you’re looking for Detroit style outside of Detroit I can recommend Red Light Bar in D.C and Good Pie in Vegas! So good.
Really cool video. Glad you guys are visiting my state! Hopefully you make it up north to either The Sleeping bear dunes National Lakeshore or the Pictured Rocks in the UP!
@@ThroughMyLens That's so cool! I live in Traverse City, hopefully you made a stop in our beautiful town if you went to the sand dunes! Can't wait to watch the video when it's released.
FYI the Artist Wyland is from Detroit, he painted the giant whale wall on the Broderick tower bldg. Unfortunately the owners of the bldg keep covering it up with advertisements. He went to the DAI and he was a boxer! You see his mural of whales all over the places you go! Cool tour!
They started a high school in the museum in 1997. It’s called Henry Ford Academy. It’s still there i believe. My daughter was in the first graduating class of 2001.
Absolutely love your videos.....especially the ones when you and your Pops travel together. Such a special bond that all your viewers can see. Quick question, my wife and I along with our dog "Saylor" will be traveling through California summer of 2025. Our trip is titled "California Dreaming; Don't Worry, Beach Happy". My question is I did not factor in the opening of Tioga Pass when making our reservations. If Tioga Pass is not open in early June what is my option to get from Bishop to Oakhurst? Would you recommend going around through Tahoe or heading south?. Love you travel videos. Steve
Good question! It is a long drive when Tioga is not open. I would recommend Tahoe though as that area is so beautiful and it is normally open unless there is a crazy snow storm or something
All 4 pro sports teams are within walking distance downtown the area around the stadiums have lots of restaurants and bars along with the Fox theater and the State theater (Fillmore)
The Maritime Museum looks interesting, there should be a museum for the Red Tails WWII fighter squadron, there is a museum at Selfridge ANG Base and also at the Windsor Airport, Fort Wayne & Fort Malden isn't too far away from Windsor Ontario, check out Greek town next time.
I love the showing of the different museums but I have to say. If you're in town and only get to see one, see the DIA. It's not just a collection of Pre-modern stuff and modern murals. There are beautiful 15th century armor pieces, a medieval chapel that's been reconstructed, stone murals from Babylon and Persia, Tombs from former Roman colonies and so much more. It's a truly incredible museum
What a good video. The only disappointing part is inclusion of the "Heidelberg Project". This is not art. It is an eyesore that most of us here in Detroit have been trying to see gone for decades. We're not proud of it. It is a reminder of the blight that we're trying to leave behind. Just junk. Other than that, I really enjoyed hearing an out-of-towner's take on our city. There's so much goodness that wasn't covered, most probably due to lack of time. We really are the city on the move. If you visit, just skip Heidelberg. You're welcome!
Vernor's - oldest continuous ginger ale in the US, Eastern Market - a real market to both commercial and retail trade, Greek Town, the Salt mines - if they still do tours. That should get you started _AND_ Buddy's Pizza on 6mi & Conant IS the original Detroit style pizza. How do I know? I lived 1min walk & could see their building from my bedroom window, long before they franchised. If you want Detroit style pizza, that's the only place to get it.

Man you were so close to the best hot dogs in the world right across the bridge in New Jersey. If you find yourself in NYC make the trip to Fort Lee and hit up Hirams French Fried hot dogs. It was Anthony Bourdain’s favorite place!
Lafayette all the way, man! It has that Detroit, "go-go-go get the hell in and get the hell out", attitude that embodies the city. Everyone has sh*t to do, and Lafayette amplifies that style.
Came all the way from New Zealand to visit Motor City, Christmas 2018 and loved, loved, loved Motown Museum!
