      I would love to visit the Motown Museum as I've seen some of the bands on the label live and I would like to stand where they stood. Seems to have recovered a city from the terrible time when it went broke. Still love your videos and your lovely smiles.

    I went to Detroit twice and the second time I went my mother and I volunteered with the greening of Detroit to help plant trees in this distressed neighborhood of 7 mile road. We enjoyed our visit and checked out downtown which is probably my favorite downtown in any city i visited in the US.
    Sadly, My mother, Edith Maria Johnson passed away from Bile Duct Cancer last Tuesday night and she was only 70. I was reminiscing our time together when I looked at picture of us at the Detroit International Riverfront. When I have the time, I’m going back to the 313 to check out the city and volunteer to honor my mom! RIP mom

    Our present Mayor should receive lots of credit. We needed someone who could manage crisis after crisis and make tough choices. I'm proud to be a Detroiter for Seventy years and PROUD of my city. That said, I won't forget what Dan Gilbert has done for Detroit. Has invested his heart and soul in to the city that we all love at great sacrifice to himself. THANKS Dan.

    • @aksensei
      @aksensei 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dan Gilbert is EVIL. He made his money on sub prime mortgages and is stealing from the tax payers. He also funds the IDF--carrying out war crimes in Gaza. All the "good" he does is for himself. Any donations he makes allow him to further takeover the city. And don't get me started on the Mayor. You can love the city, but you need to do research on the politicians.

    • @1LadyJLE
      @1LadyJLE 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Well if you been here that long, he wasnt the only Mayor who had tough crisis and did well for real Detroiters, if you lived in the suburbs, Its not Detroit to me. Mayor Coleman Young did much for the lower class citizens in Detroit, So lets remember him as well.

    As a teenager living in Windsor, Riverside dances was the practice venue for Motown groups to try out their routines. I saw a 12 year old Stevie Wonder performing to a very small venue and we got to see him up close. Many other Motown groups sang here on Saturday nights, entertaining all kids who never knew what stars these groups were to become. These a very fond memories of mine and nobody talks about them. We also would go to Detroit to witness the Motown Revue, everyone was there, all day, group after group, the Temptations, everyone. Loved it so much.

    WONDERFUL to finally read a very positive story and acknowledgement of my beautiful Detroit. While she remains imperfect, she and the people of Detroit share a glorious story of Redemption, economic survival and cultural faith. It would be hard to leave any out! And who doesn't love such a remarkable comeback story! Not sure if anyone can do a better video on this city than you guys. I admire and appreciate your enthusiasm for "America's Great Comeback City," Detroit. I moved here about 3 years ago and I've fallen in love with the city: from the history to the potential, I'm excited for more to see it for themselves.
    I didn't know some of these places you mentioned so I definitely learned something new. I was actually in the Book Tower within the last couple of months and even took a picture of the replica tower but didn't realize there was a whole room with a history lesson. Can anyone go in there and is there just a door I missed lol? I would love to explore whatever parts of these buildings are open to the public. The Fisher Building is another cool one with Pure Detroit gift shop and is a theatre just down the street from the Motown Museum.
    Detroit is rapidly changing as well so there are some things being built that are not here today but will be in the coming months or years like the completion of the Joe Louis Greenway, Ralph Wilson Centennial Park, Gordie Howe International Bridge, Hudson's Detroit(GM is moving their hq to what will be the 2nd tallest building in the state behind current hq GM Renaissance Center), and my favorite the reopening of the abandoned Michigan Central Station in June.
    You might also like the Mbad African Bead Museum where you can buy necklaces and whatnot some of which are actually from Africa and a secret activity of kayaking through the Venice like canals of the Jefferson Chalmers neighborhood. I really want to do this but there are 1 or 2 companies that do group excursions for a couple hours around $50/person if I remember correctly.

      Wow, thank you for your wonderful comment and for sharing this great information as well. I'm making a list of things I want to do on future trips to the city. Am really looking forward to the station being open in June! A lot to look forward to for sure. As for the Book Tower, yes, anyone can go and look inside the historic exhibition. It's across from the main reception desk under the glass dome. Near the elevators and glass-walled kitchen prep area. Take a look next time! Thank you, I'll go to the Book Tower exhibit when I have some time near there and same with the Library St Art Collective and the buildings around there. I was also glad to see all the love we got from the NFL draft this past weekend. The city is rockin' right now although some of us already knew all the fun that can be had here. 😂 I'm not a foodie so I'm sure I'll learn a lot from your food video but my guesses are a Coney dog, pizza, and Mexican food. I was born in the old Deaconess Hospital on Jefferson Ave. I moved away from Detroit in 1983, but much of my family still lives there. I still remember the smell of smoke from the 67 riots and the devastating effects it had on the city, so to see Detriot coming back strong is a very emotional experience. Now, when i come back to Detroit, I feel a great sense of civic pride and admiration for its citizens.

    Detroit has more character in it's pinky finger than most cities have in their whole hand. I've always had a soft spot for this city, problems and all. Most-of-life Torontonian myself and as someone from a growth-choked mega-success story that we are, the one thing I'd say to Detroit is to grow and improve, but don't lose your character especially in the architecture department and overall character of especially downtown. We've been far too lax in this department in Toronto and we let developers slap up almost anything and are now utterly dominated by countless soul-free condo towers. Preserve low-height retail areas, heritage buildings, and require everything new going up to be 'cool'. Encourage 'crazy' stuff. Detroit can become the Art Capital Of America and the King of Cool, as it's already got that vibe. Throw your industrial heritage, your design heritage, your music heritage, all into a blast furnace on Zug Island and see what comes out!

    I have to go back and do the things you mentioned. I was a student at WSU in 1977-79 and my dad worked for the Detroit News back in the 60s-89. Boy has it changed.
