I grew up on the east side of Detroit. A nice area. It's a F'ing war zone today. No excuses. Detroit is a sh*t town that truly reflects the people that inhabit it. Even all the nice videos of Downtown are deceiving. Probably half of the area is uninhabited or vacant.
🌺 I was there July 29, 2023, and I fell in love with Detroit!!! (From Atlanta) I’ve been there many times, NOBODY ever told me about or took me to the Ford Museum!!! Dude Detroit is terrible this dude is trying to put a nice shiny coat of paint on a turd. I'm originally from Philadelphia that's my hometown right and people will say the downtown area of Philadelphia is nice of course it's nice, that's all the government cares about is fixing up the downtown areas of these cities, the rest of Philadelphia just like the rest of Detroit is shit. In Baltimore they only care about the nice downtown part with Camden yards and the Baltimore Ravens stadium if you go outside of that the city is a dumpster fire. The government and politicians only care about the downtown area of these cities they can give a rat's ass about the neighborhood surrounding the downtown.
I have a thing for Detroit. I've only been there once to play a show at the Fox theatre, but I got to spend some time walking around and checking things out. I believe in second chances and I love an underdog. When I got my promotion, I bought myself a Shinola watch -built right there in Detroit.
LA transplant who's lived in Corktown for a few years. Detroit's definitely an underrated city on its way back up. but in all fairness to anyone potentially looking to move there to start a new life soon, Detroit is still light years away from being something like a Chicago or Boston or NYC. it's more on par with cities Cleveland, Minneapolis, Columbus, etc. the place just feels like...half deserted and littered with empty paid parking lots. i'm sure in 10 years, it's gonna be poppin.
No doubt, you can't go through what Detroit's gone through, and expect it to be on a par with the big boys... It's a shell of its former self. BUT - it absolutely was second to none in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. Vibrant, happening, with building after building spectacular in their architecture, unique, with an incredible music culture. Not too many places in America with a major waterway you can see a different country directly across from.

I started going to Detroit a couple times a year 10 years ago when friends moved up there. I tell everyone they should go hang out. The vibe is great and I love to see the organic growth of the city over the years. Also check out Corktown, Royal oak, Ferndale , Eastern Market, etc. Summer months are the best ( not the winter lol)
I love Detroit, too, and appreciate your enthusiasm for it. I lived downtown for 30 years during the so-called bad years, the '70s and '80s, and it was interesting and fun even then. It went through hell, but it never did "die" -- and now is coming back at an astonishing rate. I think the bankruptcy in 2013 shook everyone, and forced the city's leaders to decide whether Detroit would or would not have a future. They -- and the citizens -- decided it would. And now it does.

Funny I've lived here my whole life and never been to either lafayette coney or American coney. I mean there are coney islands everywhere. It's a staple in this city.
Detroit is awesome. It had a lot of green space for a big city. It actually gets dark at night( unlike some bigger cities), has a number of organic and coop farms within the city, and has real heart. We have the world best pizza, as well as the absolute best Lebanese food outside of Lebanon. Detroit has almost every ethnic group and is a short drive to beautiful rural areas. We have a State park in the city and a really cool riverfront. It’s the warmest part of a very cold state. Some say we are going to be the new Cali. We’ll see. Additionally the whole state of Michigan is one of Americas best kept secrets. Within an hour of Detroit we can be on a white sand beach at one of the Great Lakes and it’s only a five hour drive to Bigfoot-type wilderness in the upper peninsula.
I was born there, but in the 70s. Some beautiful neighborhoods like Boston Edison district. But ive lived in Taipei for 16 years. Thats an incredible city. I hate driving. In Taipei i never drive. Also universal healthcare thats great. Sorry Detroit. Ive been back for like 6 months. Cant believe the inflation. Crazy.
Native Detroit’s, now live in LA. I preach the beauty of Detroit to everyone I know. Most question me then after one visit they always say, wow you were right. Btw…. You are killing me with the ketchup on a coney. No ketchup
What you said about fares is wrong. They don't charge you by distance on the New York City subway; one single charge takes you anywhere in the system, other than the air train extension at JFK airport.
Midday in winter probably not the best time to showcase the city but I still appreciate the vid. Should see it on a weekend or on the weekend in the summer
Parking garages are cheaper or street parking if you can find some! I grew up in the Metro area and watched Detroit grow, ended up going to university and working downtown; I loved it. I miss it everyday and its honestly got to be the best city in the midwest. ALSO - respect for you trying not to film others, not ever person has that consideration. Also go to a church if you want to find more people XD, I remember walking from my jobs to Great Lakes Coffee Co. and these people from a church across the street yelled out to me and were handing out free hot dogs and ice cream (it was 90F+). Definitely took them up on the ice cream, they were so incredibly nice.
Hey man love your video and I love detroit! As far as the parking goes yes there is a lot of places to park that you can pay for. But, you can park for free right next to Comerica Park and those duplex houses. I want to say it's on the west end of Comerica Park and there's a few rows of streets that you can park for free. Anyway, to drop that little bit of information. Take care and great video.
Detroit seems to be on the right track. But how is the safety for a family with young kids starting with school and which are safe neighborhoods to live at? I might be an expat in the area in a few months and we're not sure if we should go and where. Auburn Hills?
Aubrun hills is too far from the city centre. If you to be in the mix but not in the city proper just look at the map at surrounding cities. I will say the cities north of Detroit are more bustling. Royal Oak Ferndale Birmingham etc and if you are looking for a city lower cost but still alot of amenities check out southfield
Born and raised in Livonia, there is no safer city of it's size anywhere. I consider myself extremely blessed to have been raised there. Everytime I go back to visit it is the same.
I'm from Warren just north of Detroit all good in the burbs. It coming back. Slowly. In the city over by conner and Jefferson was wall to wall houses now it's like one third houses gone. Torn down.
So this video is cool. I love watching a suburban do Detroit videos. All the places except credit cards not cash only. Sir it’s not supposedly it was voted Best Riverfront. Detroit is underrated because people always compare us to NY we aren’t NY we are D.
A bit disappointed he didn't go to the heart of the riverfront there near the Rencen, he would have been more likely to find more life there. Yup, there was a day that Detroit began to rival New York, one of the greatest and most important cities in the world. Just the fact that the D had such incredible culture, music, history, and national importance as to even be compared to New York for a few decades speaks volumes. As you say, Detroit is different. For example, it is Detroit that has been given the moniker of "the arsenal of democracy", the city credited by many for having won world War II with it's unreal industrial output. That's quite a badge of honor, New York don't know nuthin' about that...
And the surrounding area, especially northern Michigan, is spectacular. Loved watching the freighters pass along the riverfront in Detroit. Agreed though, I hear that "Detroit is back!" here and there, just no. It's a shade better than when it bottomed out, but it's still struggling just to stop the bleeding.
My kids work in a company in Detroit somehow they r under impression that area is full of crime and refrain from moving any place except company office in detroit

As someone who grew up outside of Detroit and have ate at American Coney Island. It’s hurtful to see you not put onions on a chilli dog.

Right, it ruins the authentic coney dog experience he said he was having. Then he went and put ketchup on his other onion-less one at Lafayette.
I was wondering about the onions also . A real coney has mustard, onions and of course the coney sauce .
who eats a chili dog without onions..... Jeeze - what are you ..? six...?

Native Detroit’s, now live in LA. I preach the beauty of Detroit to everyone I know. Most question me then after one visit they always say, wow you were right. Btw…. You are killing me with the ketchup on a coney. No ketchup
True enough! And just wait until Michigan Station comes back!
Lovely. Might have to visit, very nice vid. Good energy
Whaddup doe! When you put ketchup on that coney a piece of me died. I can forgive no onions, but not ketchup. 💀
You can walk to Ontario from Detroit. People don't realize this sometimes. It's a border town.
Motorcity casino sells hot dogs they have a detroit coney. It's chili onion mustard and nacho cheese. It's so good
Food vlogs are always good Chris 👍🏻
Be safe!
Thank you 👍🏽🙏🏽
@@seelautravel pizza reviews in Chicago with your family please 😀
Detroit seems to be on the right track. But how is the safety for a family with young kids starting with school and which are safe neighborhoods to live at? I might be an expat in the area in a few months and we're not sure if we should go and where. Auburn Hills?
Aubrun hills is too far from the city centre. If you to be in the mix but not in the city proper just look at the map at surrounding cities. I will say the cities north of Detroit are more bustling. Royal Oak Ferndale Birmingham etc and if you are looking for a city lower cost but still alot of amenities check out southfield
There are plenty of safe neighborhoods just the schools aren’t the best
I hope you'll be able to visit downtown Tampa someday.
7:57 wow antonio is a talking rapper man.theway he is moving with a flow.
You didn't take the Q line?
Detroit is beautiful with so much to do and see. It still has a long way to go but many new developments opening every year
And the surrounding area, especially northern Michigan, is spectacular. Loved watching the freighters pass along the riverfront in Detroit.
Agreed though, I hear that "Detroit is back!" here and there, just no. It's a shade better than when it bottomed out, but it's still struggling just to stop the bleeding.
underrated and we prefer to keep it that way.
Oh shit you didn’t do onions that is a must and you put ketchup that is not right lol the Tru Detroit, Coney
What month did you do? Planning on going last week of March, what is the weather like?
Ill go ahead and ride that people movers next time I get there 👍
The Chicago in me DIED when you ruined that incredible Coney Dog with catsup
Despite being a native Detroiter, coney islands leave me cold.
My kids work in a company in Detroit somehow they r under impression that area is full of crime and refrain from moving any place except company office in detroit
I’ve never been to Detroit and now I want to visit. 😊
I AGREE!!! I was there a few weeks ago, and I am in love with Detroit!!! The Ford Museum is a MUST SEE! Downtown is really pretty! I also thought that Chicago is under rated!
