Hands down, this is gotta be the best advice for not just riding, but for life. The joy of life. I can't thank you enough. I'm gunna share the joy with every step I take.
@@JoyOfBike This is the best mountain biking video I've seen. It has changed my attitude for every ride. It has helped me reframe my attitude with my kids. I wish you had a 30-second "short" edit of it to share the Joy with more of the biking community (and for the rest of life!). Building up each other, at their level, without pressure, keeping it fun, and celebrating the victories---a recipe for life. Thank you for sharing! And thank you for your positive energy and examples!
Friends! This is what Joy of Bike is really about. Life too. These tips helped me pump my way through a long, deep trough, and now I'm boosting into the air!!!
Lee, I love it that you are boosting out! Your training has changed my life both on the bike and off the bike. It is great to see you pumping your way through the hard chapters of life as well as the stoked ones. Thanks for sharing about your journey. Thanks for teaching us how life on the bike applies to all of life.
Hey Lee. Just saw your deadlift with handlebars video. Check this out! I’ve been using for over a year and it’s awesome. Can also row with it www.jaquishbiomedical.com/x3-bar/
How in the world does the universe work? We go to make a video about how we make flow and stoke and somehow Andy shows up fresh to MTB with a brand new bike! Kismet.
I had tears of joy by the end of this video. A friend of mine took me mountain biking a year ago and it’s one of the best gifts I have ever received. Joy of Bike is a gift that has enhanced my riding and challenged me to try new things. Every video is part of one long virtual Joyride.
I am a whitewater kayaker and the best kayaking trip I went on was a 2.5hr drive to the river only to realise I had left a critical piece of kit at home and couldn't paddle.... BEST PADDLE EVER.... the group that did paddle had never been on that river before and I knew all the good spots to get to the river by driving and walking so I was talking them through rapids and taking photos and the grins on all their faces was absolutely fantastic .... thanks for this vid. Captures what I usually try to get to on the river ... one day I'll finally get a mtb and get riding again for some different "namastoke" ...
Cracking advice for life, not just riding. It’s crazy the number of people being way too serious about their “play-time”. It doesn’t take much to share the love🤘🏻
Wow. Just wow. I have to admit, when I started the video I was rolling my eyes a little. But THEN I was totally in tears with what you did for that guy and the other people you rode with. Especially the kids. Because everything having to do with kids brings on the waterworks. This is so inspiring and a very good reminder for my next ride.
I have to say that mountain biking for me has been as much about community as it is about riding. Whether its a solo ride in the woods, a group ride or a weekend away with friends we get to create our our experience. Victim of the vibe or architect of the vibe. A perfect distillation of the choices we have in all areas of life. Not just riding.
Man...if every crew took these 5 and used them there would be a ton more joy! I don’t look forward to many you tube channels posting new videos but this one just makes me happy to watch...it’s like a little tiny dopamine hit every time which gets me motivated to spend time in the dojo or the trail 😀🤙
This is great, and can be applied to a ton of activities. For example, there's a certain hell that entails golfing with somebody who's trying to be a good golfer, failing, and getting frustrated. So much of my own riding since I was a kid has been solitary mostly due to circumstances, so when other people are involved it's just that much more important to have as much fun as possible. There's a time, a place, and a scope for the inner critic; and that's really not during a fun group ride (or often even during private skill building, for that matter).
Agreed Alex!! One of the best pieces of advice I have ever received for life in general... "YOUR EGO IS NOT YOUR AMIGO!" Let that crap go!!!! Your life will get easier...Be a nice person to others and share in their JOY!!
Man, you have just described how THE SKATEBOARD SCENE works! I always say I wish the MTB community in my city behave in the same way the skaters do! There are much more respect, joy and stoke with everyone around, trying to have fun as much as you :) lovely video! Thanks.
"Be an Architect of Joy and Flow!" seriously...words to live by! Thank you gents for sharing all the goodness! How awesome if this community can continue to spread all this goodness and be architects of joy! Best Vid Yet!
This video made me smile the whole time and I wasn’t even on my bike! Your approach to elevating stoke and flow is awesome. We as humans need to apply this to life in general. Namastoke!!! 🤙🏾
Yeah dude, nailed it. I know I can be negative sometimes on a ride, and wonder why some rides leave you buzzing , some not so. I shall try and incorporate this positivity into my mantra. You guys are awesome!
Second time watchin' this after so long. Thought I'd check in with you and let you know what you've done here. You guys really know the mind of Bikers (and newly grown bikers), I've been spreading your Joy of Bike since u first posted this and it never ceases to amaze me how much joy is shared by just following these simple rules. Thankyou
I just received my “old dog” tank…after this video I feel even better about my purchase. Love this channel…I’m 42 and getting back into mountain biking after 15 plus years away and this channel has been an awesome resource and place to hang.
On my last ride, I had a bit of bad vibes due to jealousy. My friend was clearing a jump and I wasn't. I was excited for him, but at the same time I really wanted to be able to do it and felt jealous of his abilities. Maybe I even felt like I SHOULD be able to do it (having recently taken a jumping clinic) I admitted to him that I was jealous but also shared my enthusiasm and excitement for him. Feeling like I'm missing out on something so FUN because I don't have the skills can be disheartening. I try to frame it as inspiration and motivation to keep working hard at improving, but in times of frustration that can be hard. Happily, I was with a friend that I could admit these feelings to, and know that his response would be positive and encouraging. With his support, I went on to try the jump a bunch more times and, although I still didn't clear it, I made good progress from where I started and came away with satisfying feelings of accomplishment. Having good biking friends is definitely a huge part of making a joy ride. My big takeaway from this video is to make sure I'm also being the good mountain biking friend. I have the power to generate these vibes in other people and groups, just by putting them out there myself.
Thanks for sharing your stoke with the rest of us and especially Andy. The amount of genuine joy he and his family have can not be bought or paid for. The family and I moved to Colorado Springs 18 months ago and I started riding MTB last summer. I’m basically Andy, but in my 50’s. Thanks to all of you for making an effort and doing what we all should be doing. Spreading the Joy and just be Kind! ❤️😀
Oh boy this vid stoked me more than ppl hitting big jumps and doing sick tricks on their bikes. It is like you found the key for JOY of bike. Love ur vids buddies. Keep up that great work!
I've been watching your videos for the past few months and the positivity of you and your group is contagious. Putting it into these 5 easy steps really makes it easy. Andy was so happy I almost got a little tear. You made his day and maybe more. Keep it up!
Exactly, this is something that all riders should be... Big happy joyful communities...sharing caring, compliments and try something new together... 👍🏼👍🏼 Great video Great Advice!!
Another good video- as many you have done these apply beyond bikes. I like the approach of rationalizing what makes a ride enjoyable while not making it boring by over thinking it. Not many pause to think what made a ride more enjoyable than others- thanks for another good one.
Wow. I didn't even realize that I was ruining my favorite activity by putting pressure on myself and worrying about what other people think about my riding. No more! I will be putting these techniques to good use. Thanks guys. Keep it up!
Aside from being a mountain biker, I’ve been a competitive fencer for 20+ years. Recently I’ve really struggled with keeping fencing fun, and managing my own ego and expectations of my performance. This gives me some really great ideas. Thank you!
Excellent vid guys! Check your Ego at the door is such good advice. I’m still very green to mtb and so my current mantra is “Embrace the suck”, and “celebrate the small stuff”, you can’t do that with an ego in the way telling you that you should be better! Keep sending the joy Joyriders! Namastoke…

Love the channel, Alex. I almost always enjoy my rides. For awhile, I was trying to take up golf. 75% of the time I felt crappy after playing due to high scores or whatever. When I realized I almost always felt great after mountain biking and nearly always felt bad after golfing, it wasn't long before I stowed the clubs in the attic and never looked back.

Last year was my first year getting in to mountain biking. And it was those exact things that made that year amazing. It was a good feeling when I accomplished a small feat but it turned in to a great feeling when other people seen it and congratulated me. These videos are great not just for biking but for life. Keep it up Joyriders.
Hey Alex, Thank you brother. I've been following Lee's books / website and have been seeing him pop up in your vids for several months now. I had a compound fracture with my right arm just about a year ago and keep having mondo fear when I go out and ride pretty much anything rocky or fast (out in Texas, it's enduro-lite). It's been a real struggle and after yesterday's ride I contemplated selling the bikes and all the gear because I just felt like it would never get better and I didn't belong. Great timing on this vid, you're making a difference with these videos. I'm going out vibing tomorrow once these hamstrings loosen up, learning to HINGE!
You have to cut yourself some slack my friend. YOU BELONG!! The greatest thing you can do has nothing to do with your riding. It's how you make other feel and you can't do that until you feel good. Coming back from injury is a bitch and takes time because we slowly push out the bad associations with speed and rewire some new ones. It took me TWO YEARS to hit a jump that sent me to the hospital again. Correction. I forced myself to do it as soon as I could and then didn't hit it for two years. I had to build up and back and when I finally did it was NOTHING. I had gotten better as I avoided it. Ha. You got this brother.
Hello brother!! Thanks for asking. It is probably obvious from some of the existing “bike” videos we did, that the journey was getting more and more spiritual. Since my long time friend died in my arms, I’ve been pulling hard on the spiritual thread with startling and positive changes. I’m sure we will make some content that brings these two worlds together but I’m not sure when. Love, Alex
Another great video from JOB. Alex, that was an outstanding hammer throw @ 0:58 and it brought me copious amounts of joy while being trapped at my desk at work.. Watch out whippersnappers, us old guys are bringing the stoke back.
You could probably tell but i swung around my DJ but did a cut to actually throwing my BMX. Confession: I had a ride on whole enchilada with so many flats that I was very close to doing this exact move and hucking my Canyon off a cliff. This was cathartic. : )
I came back to this after seeing it months ago. I've noticed how it really does work especially when riding with other people which I don't do much. But even when I'm by myself, it's like I have to work on it even more. Don't complain, don't be so hard on myself, but compliment and just try new stuff. You guys are great, at 53, it's really about just having fun right? The rest will just come naturally.
I just watched this yet again and I love this reminder. I'm one that gets way too serious, but this is so good. One place I ride, many people tend to be snobbish but with these techniques and setting aside the ego, it's easy to get people to respond. Thanks!!!
Awesome video. Short term, I will have a better day today just by watching this. Long term, this is huge. During busy/stressful times my wife (a Buddhist) is often telling me to be happy. She has even told me to "make myself happy", or "find something that makes you happy". I never really understood how to do this. I tried to take her advice, but I think I was always trying/looking for the "grand slam home run" of happiness. That one big thing that would create this huge amount of joy. Anyway, this never really worked. Now I feel that I have a better understanding of how to get/be happy more often. It does not take something huge, but even the smallest thought/action can have an impact on your level of happiness. Obviously, I have known this. Didn’t I? I have seen my wife do this thousands of times, she has a way of being happy in almost any setting. I never realized what she was doing. I had no idea how she got there, that she was often creating this kind of space/environment for her to be happy in. I just kind of watch her do what she does, but I never put 2 + 2 together. I am often focused on the things in life that do not necessarily bring me joy. While in this mode, I know that I have missed opportunities to capture a little happiness. I guess I never realized the “obvious” importance of even adding a little bit of happiness to the mix. Always too busy, blah, blah. I for sure was not always looking for these opportunities and have even ignored them. I certainly did not think of creating them. This is not to say that I have never taken these opportunities or have never created them. This happens, but I think it is subconscious and it does not happen nearly enough. Thank you Joy of Bike!
Dude, I love this.....I'm for sure aware of how the vibe affects me, but I never thought about trying to architect the vibe around me and make it what I need.....You all are geniuses. Love you guys and these vids!
I was having a tough day at work today, got the notification for this vid. Knew that my evening was going to be joyful! I was right, caught myself grinning like an idiot watching this. Namastoke.
Thank you mate, for all the great tutorials! I went to a Bike Park for the first time last weekend... and IT ROCKED! I felt right at home and after my 2nd ride the shred was real. Even cleared some jumps! Big part in this being so great was me parcticing MTB skills (wheelies, Bunny Hops, cornering) for about two years before that, helped tremendously by your and some other TH-camrs great tutorial videos. Without those, it would have been so much harder to aquire the needed skills. Thank you man!
Big Compliment to YOU guys. I am having SO much fun watching your videos. THANKS for doing them. Please keep it up. Ive learned so much from them and watching you guys having fun makes me happy and at the same time I cannot wait to get back on my bike whenever I see your videos. Namastoke from Germany!
Love this video! Just got back from bikepacking a section of the Colorado Trail on my fat bike while adopting a similar attitude. What a blast when you send out the positive vibes and people just get infected by it! My ass hurt, my legs were toast, but the attitude was everything. Can’t wait to bump into you guys somewhere around here, I’ll be at full stoke!
You guys absolutely nailed it again!! I've already been doing most of this without realizing. Just need to start taking pics/video. Keep up the good work and don't be afraid to another video on the same subject. Would be cool to see it proven in multiple environments.
You two are brilliant.I really value these posts but I'm gunna say in regards to this one.Honesty shines through more than anything else. I'd rather go riding with a friend who tells me about their crap day than one who pretends it's all good.To me honesty brings balance and the best vibes in all situations not just the good ones.
I think most people value conformity and compliance to fashion greater than they value honesty. But even honest people can usually find things to smile about when participating in a recreational activity. And they should share that with others.
This is the most positive video I’ve ever seen on mtbing. I felt great just watching it and I can’t even ride up here in freezing cold and snowy Canada.
I loved this so much and hope it brings so much more joy to people’s rides! I’d love to see tip #1 as “Let Ego Drive Your Heart (And Stoke)” Ego gets a bad rap, but it can viewed simply as a “container for self”. And if directed right, it can build (and model) confidence and drive for new skills. Thanks for another great vid!✌🏼🤟🏼
100% true. biking is all about having fun. due to my work schedule, I often ride alone. I love long rides with tons of climbing (like this morning when I did a loop around Igman Olympic mountain, with almost 50km with 1km elevation before the work), I like exploring and finding new places to ride. and when sometimes some friends tag along, they apologize often or they feel like they are holding me back. like recently I went on a ride with two friends who mostly ride road bikes, and we had to make stops often, because they got tired, it was too hot for them, terrain was bumpy etc. and they kept says, you must be hating us now, we're slow, you must be bored. and I kept saying, it's all adventure. what ever we do, it's adventure. same goes when I go out for a ride with my GF, she always say: this isn't interesting for you. but it is, it's all adventure! as long as everyone is having fun, it's great to be out there on our bikes. spread the good vibes joy riders!
Beautiful! Thank you. Reminds me of "The best surfer in the water is the one having the most fun." Not sure who said it first, but Gerry Lopez would definitely approve. So would Alex, I imagine.
Thanks for this video. It came in handy today during a ride with my son. I was focused on my struggles, then I thought about this and the fact I was riding with my son. It really turned things around for me!
Hands down, this is gotta be the best advice for not just riding, but for life. The joy of life. I can't thank you enough. I'm gunna share the joy with every step I take.

I just found your chanel. As a nearly 50yr old I was so excited! Though, where have you gone??
Hello brother!! Thanks for asking. It is probably obvious from some of the existing “bike” videos we did, that the journey was getting more and more spiritual. Since my long time friend died in my arms, I’ve been pulling hard on the spiritual thread with startling and positive changes. I’m sure we will make some content that brings these two worlds together but I’m not sure when. Love, Alex
Alex for president! Love this channel!
Alex for Chief Benevolent Overseer of the Galaxy.
I have such joy seeing notifications of a new video from you…lol
😊
Mega! Rocking the positive vibe. 🙌🏻
I'm stoked!! And thankful for you guys making awesome content 🤘
"Imangine all the people....." Love this channel! Yee Ha what a fun video, you really hit this one out of the park! Can't wait for the next one!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is pure gold 🙌
Great edit Alex!!
It needs more Lee but we just didn't get it. Live show on joyrides next week?
*compliment!*
@@JoyOfBike *deflection!* ;)
@@JoyOfBike YES!!
Thank you for sending such a great message. Positivity is contagious.
This is now quintessential. Create the vibe you want around you. Best ride video I have watched. I'm putting this in the life bucket too.
I’m voting Alex for positivity president. We need so much more of this. It’s simply good life practices. How to live your life 101.
LOL. Too much pressure. : ) I need room to have my bad days!!!
Gents, I may have missed it and it was already announced, but you make an awesome team and make this channel full of joy.
I just watched this yet again and I love this reminder. I'm one that gets way too serious, but this is so good. One place I ride, many people tend to be snobbish but with these techniques and setting aside the ego, it's easy to get people to respond. Thanks!!!
Good on you brother. Isn’t it the best feeling?
Namastoke to you, fine Sir.
Dude, I love this.....I'm for sure aware of how the vibe affects me, but I never thought about trying to architect the vibe around me and make it what I need.....You all are geniuses. Love you guys and these vids!
Appreciate you!!! Being an introvert, sometimes I don’t have the energy to do it. And that is okay too. But it’s empowering to know how!!!
Wicked video. I shared with my family as there are some great life lessons and it gives insight into how I feel when I ride.
I was having a tough day at work today, got the notification for this vid. Knew that my evening was going to be joyful! I was right, caught myself grinning like an idiot watching this. Namastoke.
Heck yeah!
Beautiful!!
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 thanks for this one!
Great work boys! You made that guys day and I have got to say we got joy from seeing it.
The best advice so far! This on the top. If you have the right feeling and right mindset everything will follow a lot easier than normal
You guys have so much positive energy and it makes me want to ride so much
This video made me smile a lot. *compliment
Love this. Very important.
Awesome video, awesome vibes. Keep the positivity coming.
Great, positive vibes!
I've got a new riding and trail building bud who oozes this vibe! Planning a joyride this afternoon as a matter of fact!
I want to go!
@@JoyOfBike come to Canada! We just built a drop progression with a progressive lip and landing for noobs like me to learn to fly!
One of my ALL TIME favorite videos! YES!!!
Love that!!
Every time I go riding, I do exactly what you’re saying, and I always feel that stoked vibe, thanks for sharing this
Any time!
Bro, just watching this vid put me in a flow state! 🤘 rock on man
This is the first channel I watched when my spectral came in! The wheelie vid with Lee 🤘been boosting my stoke ever since
Just awesome!! - all is so true for bikes and life!!
Thanks again!!!! Joe
Always!
You guys are the scientist of STOKE!!!🧪🔬🤙🏽
This is the most positive video I’ve ever seen on mtbing. I felt great just watching it and I can’t even ride up here in freezing cold and snowy Canada.
Channel just gets better and better lads keep it up 😁👍
Thanks 🙏
I like you guys!! so much fun and positivity!
You are so kind
Rad! Thanks 🙏🏽 Namastoke!
Giant smile on My face!
You and Lee have quickly become this noob’s flow guru. Namastoke!
Such great advice and great video.
Awesome!
kept me smiling the whole video, you guys are amazing
Epic fellas. Sixty seconds of anger stops a minute of happiness!
100% true. biking is all about having fun. due to my work schedule, I often ride alone.
Couldn't agree more!
I've come back to watch this again. I absolutely LOVE this video!
Thanks for this video. It came in handy today during a ride with my son. I was focused on my struggles, then I thought about this and the fact I was riding with my son. It really turned things around for me!
Adding to my bucket list - Joy Ride with Alex Bogusky and Lee McCormack.

Thx, those advice are really needed
