      agree with you on that I went form a aorus gigagyte 2070 max q to a asus rog zephyrus with a 4080 and to screens. Going from getting like 8 to 9 hours of battery to not more than 3 and a half hits different lol. I did always love that this laptop had good battery life and was decently powerful.

      @@J_Johnson.Productions nice, thinking I'll get the i9 4060 model and just 16gb ram that I'll upgrade right away with 64gb ram and a 4tb SSD. 2023 Legion Slim 7i here (i9 [H], 4070, 32G ram). Couldn't wait for the 2024 model to be released. Also, about $500-800 more than what I got. White isn't available in Canada, which I have to admit looks slick! Thanks for taking the time!

    • @techwithashley
      @techwithashley  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I almost got that one, but was trying to be patient for the 2024 to be released. Considering NVIDIA hasn't released any new graphics card, the 2023 models are a better value. However, I haven't seen the 2023 Slim 7i go on sale, so in this case, they were the same price. I'm sure it'll drop now this one it out, but I will be sticking with what I have.

      @@techwithashley Good idea! The max'd out dgpu is the same (4070) but the cpu is 14th gen and HX. I sincerely doubt, performance-wise, it's a significant difference from the 13th gen, i9 (H). In any case, the 2023 Slim, with my spec, is hard to find online. Got mine from Best Buy Open Box for $2099 CAD. Hard to find it even now. Yes, I would definitely stick with what you have. You have the PRO model then vs the slim or regular 7 as these max out only to a 4070. Imo the 7i looks better than the Pro. Also the Pro is missing some key features for me like weight and having a FPS. If I want a 4080 or 4090 I would get an 9i instead but those are more expensive.

    I had this machine for a few days. I personally had an issue with the case. The monitor hinge creaked when I would open the machine. Also, I found the machine would get rather warm when the device was not a flat, desktop type surface. When I would place the machine on my desktop mat, the temperatures would then get high enough that it would throttle. I ended up returning the device and purchasing the Legion Pro 7i, which has been fantastic.

    • @SgtFurby
      @SgtFurby 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I had to RMA my Legion 7i after 4 hours of use. It got stuck in a BIOS self-healing loop and then failed to POST or BIOS. This was 4 hours of updating BIOS, windows, drivers, and testing a game for about 30 minutes.
      4 hours, during one of the many restarts, it died.
      Replacement unit arrives tomorrow....

    • @shaeisgae8952
      @shaeisgae8952 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SgtFurby if you're able to answer that would be a big help, how did the replacement go? Also how was their customer service?

    • @shaeisgae8952
      @shaeisgae8952 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What were you using it for that would get it hot if you don't mind me asking? I have heard that it has cooler *internal* temps than some others which seems more attractive to me as someone who lives in a warm region in the summer, but I'm semi unsure if it will end up being an issue for me to actually use

    • @SgtFurby
      @SgtFurby 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@shaeisgae8952 Every time Lenovo customer service transferred my call, the call dropped. This happened four times during the RMA process.
      Once we actually established a cross shipment RMA, it was easy. Return labels sent, new unit shipped, and it was fine. I almost ran into the same BIOS problem with the new/current unit.
      I won't purchase another Legion 7i and may opt for other manufacturers for future purchases. I do not see the 7i lasting as long as my 2015 Alienware 17 R3, which is still running to this day; all I did is replace the battery a few years ago. Still running strong after almost a decade later.
      One of my biggest gripes with the Legion 7i is the build quality. Every TH-camr saying the build quality is super high are indeed the people that are super high. They are probably paid actors. The screen flex is very concerning. The left and right swivels are rigid, but the center has zero support. That is where all the heat is. I always open the lid slowly. the screen also has a lot of bend and flex to it which is probably why a lot of users report inconsistent backlight; the variations in manufacturing probably cause small bend radius in the screen, thus warping the backlight.
      The shell itself is solid, but prone to scratching and fingerprints. The screen is an easy risk.
      I generally do not spend more than $2,000 on a laptop. My target is buying something akin to my desktop, where it can do everything my desktop can, in the event my desktop goes down for whatever reason. The Legion 7i can do that without sacrificing much of anything.
      At the price I paid, ~$1,550, and just over $1,700 after tax, I am neither totally confident nor totally against the purchase. I got a killer deal on a brand new unit with equal specs to that of @techwithashley , minus the RAM. Mine had 16GB, which I upgraded to 48GB Crucial DDR5 @ 5600MHz.
      I would NOT buy the Legion 7i at full retail, nor would I at 10 - 20% off. Buy it when you get such a low margin deal like I did. I could not find anything with those specs at that price.
      Should I make a review on my RTNBroadcasting channel?

    • @steveellsworth2547
      @steveellsworth2547 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @shaeisgae8952 Nothing special. Normal day to day activities. As soon as I removed the mat, the machine cooled down some, but it still would get fairly warm. I have the Legion Pro 7i and it has been fantastic. That laptop stays relatively cool in conparison.

    😁 At the stickers and what guy said. I usual keep the graphic and CPU stickers but with thus white deck I might just take it all off for that clean look. I might pick this up at BB tomorrow since it's on sale rn. One good thing about having BB plus which I do have but not TT is that you have a 60 day price protection instead of just 14 days. If this gets a little cheaper soon then it's a solid deal for what you get. At $1,850 it's decent deal. Hopefully this will have an OLED screen next year to make it even more slim. 😊
    Edit: 2 Masters, instant subbed. Hehe kidding but pretty cool content so far and yes I did sub cause of your humor. I don't play FPS so you're probably way better than me by a mile. 😊

      @volcalstone 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@techwithashley yeah I did. It looks soooo good. I do like it for the most part but like I stated originally that the price of this should be $1,500 instead due to it only having a 4070 115W. After tax and it being around $2K gives me some doubts.
      Yes that 60 day return window is awesome as well. I'll see if I really keep this tho as I'm comparing it to my 2022 Flow X16 3060 130W. I do see a performance boost for sure but is it enough to warrant a $2K upgrade? I'm not sure. In Forza Horizon 5 I could basically go from High to Ultra settings while keeping around the same FPS.
      So I might return it to get the Asus G16 4080 instead at $2,700. It's $850 more from the sale price or $700 more from the MSRP. To me it might be worth it for the extra GPU power at 125W, OLED screen, and better speakers. Oh and it has Windows Hello vs a FPS on the 7i. Still a lot of money but it would be more of an upgrade vs a minor one with the 7i. I will miss the per key RGB tho. I know they make the G16 in white but I believe it's more of a silver finish which I'm not a fan of. The G14 is in white I think but I want a larger display. Call me old 😊
      Please do a review of the G14 and G16. I believe you haven't yet I don't think. 😊 Also I already got a 4090 rig at home so I don't have to have the best while on the go. Just something decent enough with great battery life. The G16 has Intel Meteor Lake CPUs. It's weaker than the 14th gen Raptor Lake CPUs when it comes to high output performance but trades that for better performance at low wattages leading to better battery life overall. They finally went AMD which I actually prefer.

      @@techwithashleythe 3.2K screen is nicer but it's mainly for content creators that needs a more accurate screen. Also it's only at 165Hz vs 240Hz which gamers will notice a difference. Now will the 4070 reach 240fps? Not really on recent titles even on low settings. The 3.2K screen will put more pressure on the 4070 as well. Hey. Awesome video. I have some questions (please be patient with me, lol). How long does the battery last? Is the display nice? (does it have good accurate colors because it seems to be a matte screen and glossy screens may have better/brighter colors. Sub questions- is it anti-glare? Is your reflection in the screen really blurry or can you actually see yourself, just not as clearly as on a glossy screen?) Why do you think the 2023 Legion Slim 7i with lower specs might be more expensive on Best Buy than this 2024 model?
    Sorry for the barrage of questions. I'm just genuinely interested.

    • @techwithashley
      @techwithashley  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The battery lasts ~2 hours for me lol I haven’t done much tweaking to see if I can get more, so it might be possible. I’d say the colors are accurate, but there is a 3.2k screen option that will have more accurate colors if that’s what you’re going for. The screen is matte enough to not see reflections etc. I’m not too sure behind the reasons on the price when compared to the 2023 model, maybe Lenovo is just restructuring their price point for this model moving forward but I have no idea.

    Just ran across your review. Wondering if you had any issues with it at all? What’s funny is I’ve been watching the price and actually was returning a five because it did not have thunderbolt.
    And what strange as I’ve been watching how fast these things get picked up at open box at Best Buy. I’ve seen quite a few come in and then they go right back out again as soon as they pop up. So I’m wondering why people would be returning them? Other than they get a little warm compared to the 5i.
    And to be honest, I could care less about heat as on my razor you could cook eggs legitimately.

    • @techwithashley
      @techwithashley  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it has really good performance for a thinner gaming laptop. Naturally it does get warm, but it wasn’t anything too crazy that bothered me. It did seem to have a bug where when doing anything that turns on the dedicated GPU (like launching ANY games) the screen went completely black and I had to force restart. Turning HDR on in windows prevented this from happening, but hopefully that’s something they fix with a software update.
      I ended up returning mine, not because it wasn’t a great laptop but I need a laptop to be a video editing machine first, and gaming second and unfortunately it didn’t render any faster than my M1 MacBook Pro. And since I have a desktop PC I made the decision to swap it out for a M3 Max MacBook, even if I can’t game on it 😭
      If my needs were different or money wasn’t an object I’d buy it again.
