  • Welcome to the first part of my three part retrospective on the Adventure Modes of Super Smash Bros.! First, we're taking a look at the original Adventure Mode in Super Smash Bros. Melee, a short yet fun mode that I adore.

Yeah, I really enjoyed Melee's Adventure mode as a kid. I especially liked how they brought in special enemies for some of the levels, like the Octorocks and polar bears. I just wish they'd also made a full level for Kirby, too, complete with special enemies; the Kirby series has a lot of fun enemies.

I liked the concept of melee's adventure mode, I wish there were more traversal areas though, the few they had were good, but I wish we got a Kirby and star fox area to traverse

Every video on your channel is very well made, even since the very beginning! Good luck on the youtube journey. You will gain a lot of traction soon enough if you keep doing your thing. I’m excited to see what’s to come next!👏🏽

I played Super Smash Bros. Melee before when I was 10-years-old in 2001!

Very well said here. Melee's Adventure mode was one of my favorites, and something I try to emulate in Ultimate. The *amazing* platforming levels, short transitional cutscenes, and neat extra details (like beating the World 1-1 level with a "2" in the seconds;) makes for a fun replayable journey that feels just the right length.
I too like exploring the other series' worlds in Smash, and I think Melee's Adventure was a great start for the series. Well done.

This is very enlightening! I was not aware of a melee adventure mode

Great breakdown, I loved running through Melee's Adventure mode as a kid, I was never sure why I randomly got Luigi sometimes, a giant Kirby & even Giga Bowser some tries, it was like a new surprise every time I played through! Would I get Luigi or Mario? Giant Kirby or no? And even Giga Bowser

I loved seeing your take on Melee's adventure mode! Surprised you have less than a thousand subs tbh.

Melee adventure mode sucks. Its only fun the first time you play it, but after that it gets REALLY repetitive.

I am currently enjoying a brainrot session of Super Smash Bros. Melee. While I personally prefer 3DS/Wii U the most, Melee still holds up well.
Lots of fun modes exist in SSBM, but Adventure is by far my favorite. Ever since first seeing it in 2004, I was enamored by the setup; going in sidescrolling stages based directly on the fighter universes is fantastic! There are also some typical VS. battles peppered in to keep things fun.
You hit the nail on the head with replayability. 20 minutes is just long enough to enjoy several runs of Adventure again and again. This is something that I feel future adventure modes fall short. Sure, the idea of telling a story is nice, but frankly I find the major appeal of Smash is how it's best at being dumb fun with a loose narrative. I imagine that might stir up some disagreement...🤔
But no, the replay value is fantastic. The closest thing to reliving that level of fun in a later Smash campaign is Smash Run on the 3DS. I can't begin to tell you how many hours I sunk into Adventure in Melee.

personally, my dream adventure mode is melee’s platforming stages through actual nintendo worlds, with an actual story with cutscenes in between levels like subspace, albiet at a smaller scale.
