    A mantra is so important.
    I release on expansion with my recurve so the last part of my mantra is "tension in the right direction " and the way those syllables go as long as my shot breaks within me saying that I'm good.
    I'd like to add : Shoot in all conditions because rain, wind, hot, cold is going to affect your decision making and confidence. Shoot from as many positions and angles as you can.
    If you practice from whatever yardard (30 and in for me ) straight on to the target that is the only shot you are going to be comfortable with. Flat surface, perfect stance etc. Go find some high grass, find a grade on a hill shooting up, shooting down etc. Draw slowly standing up, shoot after a really long hold. Point in on one target and move to another to simulate an a animal moving.
    If you put yourself in those spots and those uncomfortable positions and you create a mental map of that experience you are likely to perform.
    My cousin came out west from back east and spent the entire summer practicing shooting off the ground because we were doing a spot and stalk mule deer hunt and guess what ? His shot was off a rock ledge almost straight down with an angle he has never shot at even on a tree stand and his arrow flew way over the deers back because he was just not mentally ready for a shot like that even though he literally hunts white tails out of trees for 3 months a year.

    Hey Andre love the videos and I’m glad to see I’m not the only one wearing crocs while I’m out getting in my reps 😂. Keep up the good work!

    A great way to “ insulate” yourself from the adrenaline rush that’s so easy is to just concentrate on your shot cycle. Doing this while doing some serious practice will help ingrain it in your brain. Picking a spot on the animal and focus on it ( preferably a 3-d target or cardboard cutout of something you will be hunting). Then rehearse everything quickly in your mind. Focused on the animal and chose a spot as you make the most CONTROLLED drawing aiming and releasing that arrow. 95% of this whole thing is in your mind and mindset. You know your body is in shape from hopefully hundreds of shots so just relax,take control,pick a specific spot and release the arrow.

      Maybe it’s because I’m shooting a heavy arrow

    Hope you and your family have a great day. It’s Christmas I think. What’s crazy is in the woods drawing down I guess my mind must over ride any missing anxiety that some seem to have. I have learned the secret for me is to mentally go threw the whole sequence and control the process

    I have found that practicing with 3d targets that mimic the animal I am hunting has helped me train my brain when I am in the woods and get buck fever. That and my 50 yard target has a stone wall as a backstop. Nothing like blowing up an expensive hunting arrow to add some pressure to practice!

    • @PrivilegedBowhunter
      @PrivilegedBowhunter  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’ll do the trick 🤙🏾

      I second this. 3D targets have revolutionized how successful I am on animals. I don't shoot in front of a brick wall, but I do take long shots and realize if I lose an arrow then I lose an arrow and I don't let it bother me that much.

    Merry Christmas to you and your family. God bless y'all.
    Funny, I never looked at buck fever like you mentioned. Me personally is when I choose to kill the animal, I get excited. Everyone has a different experience.
    One of my most memorable hunts. 2006 when I returned from Iraq. I'd been hunting hard. Not seeing anything. Several days I jumped deer on the way out of the woods. I decided to stalk out one day. Saying to myself the hunt is not over until I'm in the truck. It was a windy day. I stalked to the area I'd been jumping deer. Low and behold there was an 8 point buck. Bedded. I pulled my bow back and couldn't believe it. I was aiming BIG. I calmed down. Picked a spot. The rest is history. That was my biggest buck with bow... beautiful.
    Good luck on your upcoming trip.

    I'm a new subscriber, love your video's! You break down ideas and concepts clearly with a common sense approach. Keep up the good work! Question: Do you practice with a resistance or back tension release and hunt with a thumb button? Just curious?

  • @torreyintahoe
    @torreyintahoe ปีที่แล้ว

    Another great video. Can I ask what led to your decision to use a thumb button release? I'm using an index but debating on a button. A lot of the older well known bow hunters still use the index like Cam Hanes and many others but it seems like most of the younger and more competition minded shooters are using the button. Thanks for your time!

    Your bow seems so quiet.. pulling that much poundage n your bow looks heavy but totally 👌 noiseless.. do you have any vibration in your bow hand at all?

    • @PrivilegedBowhunter

      None that I notice, could be biased though because I’ve been shooting Mathews for so lone

      @PrivilegedBowhunter heard that.. I'm not strong enough for that much pull but I believe a faster bow is the way to go.. I like less reaction time given to game.. God bless brother and thanks for the respond back..
