  • Bondtech extruders are known for being some of the best in the industry. They provide a high level of performance and reliability. Bondtech sent over their dual extruder setup for the Raise3D N2+ and wanted me to give it a shot. SO I DID, WITH SOME HELP.

    I have the Bond Tech installed on my Mono Price Maker Select V2, and I love it. I did have a small problem at first with adjusting the steppers, but after a few tries, got it working perfectly!

    Very nice intro to the Bondtech extruder. I recently upgraded my Delta printer to a Bondtech, and have also installed a Bondtech in the RailCore 300ZL I’m building. It’s a great extruder!

    Finally, i have been looking at the upgrade kit for a while now and now i can see some proper comparisons :D
    I now use only one nozzle and a big 5kg filament spool because i only print ASA so the single nozzle bondtech would be for me.
    Would you say that it has any sense to upgrade for normal materials with the raise extruder being so good from the factory ? im mainly looking forward on the weigh saving and faster printing because you can get rid off the big aluminum block.

    Like I said on Instagram, I too am going to miss the acrylic cover. Jams are so much easier to fix on the original than the bondtech extruder. You have to remove the whole extruder sometimes to get a jam fixed on the bondtech.

    @3D Printing Nerd: you say in the video regarding the Raise printer that "having the two nozzles side by side is probably the worst way to do dual extrusion."
    I received a Tronxy X5S-2E recently and it actually combines the two filaments into one inside the hotend itself. The result of this is you need to use really small retract settings (like 1 or 2mm) otherwise the molten filament follows the retracting filament back up the PTFE tube and goes solid inside the PTFE tube - leading to a cold pull and shortening the PTFE tube by cutting off the clogged section.
    Surely that's worse? What do you think the best way to do dual extrusion is?

      3D Printing Nerd I guess I'm mostly assuming that there is a whole other video. Thinking back clips are what videos are made of, sorry for the confusion.

    I found this video very impressive, especially because of how easy it was to get everything installed. I've got an older FlashForge Creator Pro (~2016 model) which I'd really like to do some upgrades to, but I'm quite concerned that the lack of open source firmware is going to be a major limiting factor. I remember back in the day you had some videos with that same model - any advice for how I might resurrect it into a more useful printer, like you did with your N2?

    • @rpavlik1
      @rpavlik1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daniel Smullen doesn't the ffcp use Sailfish like the Replicator (because it is a clone of either the Replicator 1, 2, or 2x, can't remember which)? Sailfish is open source and, while it's not under as active development as Marlin, it is typically beyond the version that comes with such printers.

    • @danielsmullen3223
      @danielsmullen3223 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      rpavlik1 it is Sailfish, but there's no clear way to know what pins are used for what, what the current and voltage specs are... If you have any clues about this they would be helpful.

    • @rpavlik1
      @rpavlik1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm pretty sure there is a config in the Sailfish repo - either a config header or something like platform.py IIRC. I don't have a FF printer, so I don't know more, sorry - I've just done some work on Sailfish primarily to improve my rep2x

  • @jasonspall2157
    @jasonspall2157 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Joel, from my experience of the upgrade it was the best thing I have ever done to my Raise3D N2+. I have lost countless large prints due to filament “Stripping” out. Over 1000hrs now no problems of that. I have had the stepper motors get hot when using the lid on the machine. The heat transfers through and melts the filament at the drives. I had to completely pull it apart (includes removing from the Raise) to clean it up. I now use the cover at the beginning and lift it to ensure the steppers don’t get hot.
    Also the lower CG helps with the Waves/Ghosting with change of direction.
    In the end though, not happy with my Raise3D experience. Both the X & Y end stops fell apart. Three Control units (first one Dead on Arrival), and a motion controller board failure which my dealer replaced since Raise wipes their hands of the issues. Maybe I need to start my own TH-cam channel to get the same level of support you have experienced from Raise3D.

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ouch! That's no good. Shoot, I'm sorry to hear about your troubles with your N2+. The Bondtech upgrade came from Bondtech, not Raise. Who are you contacting there? Are they answering any of your emails?

    • @jasonspall2157
      @jasonspall2157 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joel, I have been told that even though issues that were "Raised" under the warranty period and still haven't been fixed, it is no longer under warranty and that say it is outside warranty and there is nothing they can do. That email came from the VP in Europe Michael Huang. I need a 3rd printer now, I know it won't be a Raise...
      I am a Support Person myself and I know that the product is just part of the story, it is the level of support, service and expert advice that you provide that keep your customers coming back. There is no point to winning new customers if you can't maintain the ones you have. Even though my experience with Raise hasn't been great, I still buy my supplies through the same person that sold me the machine. He is just as frustrated with the issues as I am and he has even supplied me parts at his cost that Raise wouldn't fix. That's Service & Support. Good luck with your machine.

      Ken Gregory the are difficule to set up the height.

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, I guess I should explain. In order for dual extrusion to work properly with side-by-side nozzles, the printer has to know exactly how far off in X and Y the right nozzle is from the left nozzle. If it's off, then the plastic from the right nozzle doesn't line up with the plastic from the left nozzle. Ultimaker 3 has side by side, but it also has a very decent calibration process that makes it easy for the user. The Raise - not so much.

    • @kengregory6831
      @kengregory6831 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Isn't that preferable than ending up with a purge block that can outweigh your printed model? Just sayin....

    Stepper motors are current operated, the voltage you are adjusting is a current sensing voltage, not the motor voltage. The controller adjusts motor voltage to achieve the desired current, the voltage needed varies with time and speed and the controller uses pulse width modulation to achieve the desired motor winding current.

      If you wanted it to be more genuine, a beefy battery running an instance of Kodi on an RPi and a right-angled HDMI cable to better manage that would be possible for a few hours; enough time to set up, play your footage via your phone with some _magic hand gestures_ and you wouldn't have to edit in post something that isn't entirely square.

      Being able to grip the filament from both sides as it pushes it through to the nozzle means a more reliable extrusion. Just think, thousands of retractions later, the filament could have slipped a bit. This ensures it doesn't.

      It was an hour long and rather than make you suffer through that, I put this together. If you REALLY want the hour, maybe I'll get that online :)

      Joel, I watch Walter's (Kuntry 3D) 2 hour streams, and other multiple hour long vids. Pooch is a great person, like yourself, and I am watching his assembly of the production version of his RepBox which is over 2 hours.
      Yes, I REALLY want to see it!!!

    Use a little 90-99% isopropyl alcohol to release hot glue. On most materials it will just come off freely with little effort.

    OK that ain't cheap $200 for the extruder!! I made my 3D printer for around $200 😂😂 ,Great video none the less👍

    • @JeffDM
      @JeffDM 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a dual extruder and the extruder is made in Sweden. It's very well-made, professionally designed and built to be a drop-in upgrade for a specific printer.

    I know it's a long shot but can we get a good video or modification video on anycubic kossel delta? It's a bit dated compared to what's available, but seeing how it's been one of the cheapest and easier obtainable printers, I'm sure some of us would love to see it set up step by step and what you would do as far as modifactions.
