    Thank you! I needed this. I stopped working at 62, it wasn’t by choice but I decided to make the best of it. I’m so at peace with my new lifestyle of retirement. This busy world we live in keeps trying to pull me back in but I’m fighting it will all I got. We decided to Downsize our home and our children are all grown. In the mornings I sit on my back porch and listen to nature….i don’t ever remember birds sounding so beautiful! Slowing down also gives me more time to speak with God. It’s the small things that matter to me now.

      Same here, I didn't want to retire but it was forced on me. I even offered to take a 50% pay cut to keep my job. But now that I am retired I realize I wish I had done it sooner. I guess it had to be forced on me.

    I've been focusing on a slower lifestyle since age 60, I'm 66 now. It has been a challenge at times, not to fall back into consumerism and the modern way of life. All of my friends and family still live in a world of wanting more and more. It is never enough. Like a drug, the more they buy the more they want. Yes, I do feel like an outcast at times, but the rewards are worth it. This video is spot on for me. Great advice indeed!!

    In my mid 50's and I've learned that the pleasures in life, the TRUE pleasures, come in the little things. We have been conditioned to want stuff, that stuff will make us happy. Happiness originates from within and 12 cars or houses will not fill that void. Take a walk in nature, look up at the stars, read a good book, listen to good music, take your time, exercise, meditate, feed the squirrels, shut off the news, help an elderly woman carry her packages, smile at someone as they pass you...and be happy.

    I just turned 69, i've recovered from last year's heart attack and last week was divorced from my wife who left me a week after I had my heart event. It's been a crazy 15 months but I now have a new freedom, and peace that I'm loving. Over the years I converted an old tin garage in my backyard into a Tuscan style cottage with a cottage garden with a lemon tree and an apple tree. Theres a hammock swinging between some antique turned verandah posts and lots of flowers and now vegetables growing in the sunshine within view of old rocking chairs and even an old two seater couch. I've made my transformed backyard into my personal 'slow life' mission. I collect cuttings from flower beds and friends and plant seeds then enjoy the happiness as my backyard glows with new growth and colours everywhere. I share this area with special friends, drinks and meals shared at the table that I made from a big wine barrel sitting on mis matched stools with colourful fabrics and crockery. So many eclectic things that I've collected through the years are now finding their place in this calming area. Music from Spotify played through hidden bluetooth speakers increase to positive atmosphere of this area. I'm scaling up my efforts to scale down my possessions. I want to reduce my car collection and use the funds to travel more whilst I still have excellent health. I retreat to my backyard that seems a world away from the suburb that is the other side of my fence extensions, and I feel like I'm in another world. A new life at peace can be in your own backyard, take time to smell the roses!

Took me to the cleaners in a divorce- rape . She was a stay at home and many years after our children grown and out of the house . Left me ( almost ) homeless . Sad . • @JohnnysWorld777
      @JohnnysWorld777 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@polygloticious Study history. All other systems have failed miserably. The only one that gives anyone with any level of drive a chance at their best possible life is Capitalism. We do not have pure Capitalism in the West. We have some bastardized version of it with a lot of socialism mixed in. If you are willing to work your ass off and you end up striking it rich, Capitalism allowed that to happen. If you are a socialist and you work your ass off and strike it rich, you must give away - you are forced to share what you earned with people who didn't earn it or work for it. With Capitalism, if you want to give away your hard earned money, you can but that is your choice, not the systems. Socialism destroys human ingenuity and drive. Capitalism promotes, supports and rewards it. Understand the difference?

    This was awesome. I loved the vision. I am 58 and quit with no plans in place. I just knew that I had to do what was best for my mental health. It paid well, but the environment was too toxic and bias. Yes, you can apply this to any age, however the message is to help us older folks to reset and refocus. I feel free and blessed that I can seek not just a job, but a position to serve. It's not lucrative when raising 6 children, but now I can revisit why I got my psychology degree in my 50s and work in an environment that is rewarding and building resources for the community, esp. for those that are 55 plus.

    At the age of 67…I have already embraced this concept of living…I started slowing my life down in my mid 50’s….buying things, having gadgets, fashion, hair upkeep for the sake of looking younger etc…When I settled into this way of being…a wonderful sense of calm came over my life, I no longer felt competitive. I started spending time in nature, enjoying my pets and my home life with my husband and our small little homestead….I thank God every day for the insight to let so many things that seemed important fade from my mind. And for the importance of love, comfort, frugal living to expand my years with joy and peace.. Over these past years we have experienced the loss of dearly beloved family members and best friends…with knowledge of the rhythm of life, and the cycle that takes and gives, there is always something to be grateful for. ❤️🙏🏼

      In my seaside area are numerous cafes, and I frequent one in particular numerous times each week, arriving before 8 am. I've made friends with a small table of similar age people. I don't really like coffee but have one to be social with the others. We have fun banter around the table, the staff are great and they know exactly what and how we like our coffees, its become like a social family gathering, and it only costs $4.50 each time i go but its a great start to each day. We all care about each other, its an emotion booster. I also volunteer with disabled people by taking them sailing in little boats down at the local yacht club, it's a definite feel good experience for all involved. The friendship between the volunteers is great and something we all look forward to each week. Maybe try these suggestions, best wishes, Robi

    Great stuff here. I quit consuming and am in the process of working thru the things that really light me up: family; a few close friends; my faith in God; health and exercise; volunteering to help those who need it; etc. I work part time, but notice work was NOT on my list. It's important but no longer drives the bus of my life.

      @@WiseAdvice93 this January my life took a 360 degree turn when I watched my mother fall n stop breathing for a few minutes. The present seemed all alive and the only thing which was important. I realised how much of time we had lost ruminating over the past and projecting a future which may never well come to pass. We were carrying burdens too heavy and unnecessary to carry. Still trying to find a way out. And yes, we had gathered enough unnecessary things and people who ultimately were there for themselves. Big time downsizing is necessary.So hopeful seeing your video.

    I am 53 and over the last year or so I have finally realized I am playing the game all wrong. At least I am financially well and can now focus more on experiences instead of things. Time goes by so fast. You are working your hardest and then all the sudden you're middle aged and what your are aiming for has all changed. I will retire in 2 years. I am using this time to mentally prepare myself for the shift. My new goal is going to be taking care of my health and enjoying the everyday routines. I plan to travel a little while I still can. But when you are in your 50s it really is a wake up call. The stakes are high.

    Another view is that life is a balance between energy and time. When we are young, we are full of energy but lack the time to realize all it's value and have to prioritize our endeavors within the time frame. As we age, time is still the same but we lack energy and require to ration it over time to value the time.
    The presenter either has conventional values or has not been able his birth culture. I had a hard time swimming against the current but it had to be done for my fulfillment. It helped that I realized that money was merely a token for trading. If you can get your fulfillment directly, don't waste time and energy getting money to buy fulfillment later.
    I didn't strive for the highest possible income so that I could indulge in a hobby through out my early life. I didn't stress myself to make money from it but enjoyed the physical labor it involved.

    In the fall I purge my home of unnecessary items. I have a wonderful sale in my barn. I tell stories about all the things I am selling.Hoping that someone can use them themselves. Many items were loved and useful at one time but need to move on. It's great to look around and see what you have in your home is useful and loved and all has a purpose. Daily.
    I pick something up and put it aside in a box.Knowing it's going to go on the next sale because time has come for it to move on.
