  • In this video I am installing tongue and groove effect MDF paneling to a bathroom that has been ripped out in preparation for a complete redecoration.
    I'll show you how I went about completing this job, and show you how great it can look when it's finished.
    Ensure you use a moisture resistant MDF if you are installing this kind of paneling in a bathroom or shower room.

    Some excellent work and true-to-life fitting problems, I used this paneling to hide some very unpleasant walling in a dining room, but mine was standing off tile battens to form a traditional look paneled wall. painted up it looked fab and a very happy customer - I'm sure yours was too Justin - Smashing job fella!

    That was really interesting, thank you. So many times I watch tutorials and they are in studio perfect situations with perfectly straight, flat walls. I'm still not sure I could attempt it but I do like seeing how it's done.

    Looking good, making working around imperfections look easy. I have stripped out my small WC and wanted to apply tongue & groove, however, one wall has pipes roughly 20mm above the surface. Would I have to have to chase them into the wall or do you have any work arounds I could apply? Cheers

    Great video Justin,I take it its just tongue and groove effect and the edges just butt up against each other and don't slot in

    I would like to do a kitchen splash back to cover up tiles in the same kind of mdf panels.I will have to batten out the top to bring it in line with the depth of tiles as I am going up higher than it is now. by about 6 inches. Only problem is that the tiles are grouted around electric sockets [Instead of tiles fitting underneath] so have to losen all those first ad prob have new plug sockets fitted
    Thanks for the instructional video.... great for diyer 😀

    In a new overboarder bathroom, would you need to skim it before you add these panels? Or can you do the panels straight to the board

  • @tclark108

    This looks great, but why not include the baseboard, cap, and painting of the panels? I was looking forward to seeing it all.

    Looks really well! Got some in my landing and looking to smooth and paint a new colour...recommendations on sand paper and paint to use?

    • @JBTV
      @JBTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A bit of 180 grade sandpaper should be enough to scratch the surface. The paint is up to you, if you want a better finish, make sure it's a wood paint (gloss, satinwood etc) and not emulsion

    We are wanting to put same panels into our hallway, resting it on the existing skirting. Top of skirting has slight angle - should we said off bottom edge of MDF to fit or what would you recommend?

    Excellent video as usual. Just wondered what tool bag and tote box are you using and wouldn’t you recommend them.

    • @JBTV
      @JBTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Chris. I have been using an old dewalt tote bag for my tools, and a solid dewalt t-tstak tote for my prepping tools for decorating. Very happy with both. Just been sent a Stanley 2x solid tool box on wheels/trolley, so will transfer tools into that when I review it and publish the video.

  • @MadNaduk

    Really useful video, thanks! I am about to put some up in my bathroom. Can I ask - is the panelling you used water resistant or did you just paint it with gloss etc? If water resistant, can I ask where from?

    • @JBTV
      @JBTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The mdf is moisture resistant (green) from chandlers builders supplier. Once it's had a primer/undercoat, then 2 top coats of eggshell, it is very water resistant 👍

    Why not remove the tiles first? Would allow more overhang for the sills and architrave.

    • @JBTV
      @JBTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, as long as they're moisture resistant. Hence they're green...

    Whats the best tool to use to cut to size ? I tried a normal handsaw but it just spinters and tugs splitting the ends !!

    • @JBTV
      @JBTV  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      A knife can be used to cut along the grooves. A handsaw is great, just make sure the material is well supported, that's why it's snagging. Skill saw or plunge saw is best if you can
