Panelling a Wall using Matchboard | Hall, Stairs and Landing

- Here is a run through of how I panelled the lower walls in the hallway using MDF matchboard between the dado and skirting.

Really nice job! Looking to do the same in my hallway after I've finished my bathroom.
Looking good as always, I'd be inclined to keep it open personally, I'd also run skirting along that last bit of brickwork at the bottom of the stairs, it should cover most of it up and add that finishing touch to that area.

Yeah I impressed! I’ve been doing it for to many years including 8 properties and that includes a 300 year old one. Electrics, plumbing,, etc. I like the way you work, it’s good, well done. Get yourself a sliding bevel and a Fein Tool you Lifted my spirits! I don’t give praise easily. Remember the family though, I think you’ve got that covered.

Good spot. Always seem to have a saw bite on my hand somewhere! :) yes before and after videos definitely in the pipeline, just need to find a room that we can call 'finished' as we are very good at moving on to other projects without doing the last few bits! Watch this space though.

Excellent! But if you have any chance of moisture, use a lattice of timber for ventilation and either MDF or, preferably, real timber matchboard. Remember to leave a small ventilation gap at floor level and somewhere for the moisture to go at top.
We did another episode when doing that on solid walls of the house. Battened with hidden vent, worked well. 👍
I can do the straight cuts. But what happens when you get to a corner and have to wrap around? To the next wall
Hi, can u please share what glue you used to stick panels on and what saw u used to cut. Also would be helpful if you could show how to do paneling behind switches or plugs and radiators
Looks great! What would you do if you were going to do more than one wall, so essentially panelling around a corner?
Just but join the corner and scribe the top and bottom trims. Or you could put a small scotia up there corner if needed.
Hi I am using the same gun, which nail size are you using for these panels?
What is the gun you're using? Is it just a general nail gun or something else?
Rebate the dado rail over the panelling would safe caulking and look neater
Yes, would have been better however the victorian style moulding we used would not have had the depth to allow for it. Most panel systems do use a pre rebated capping though as you have suggested.
Hi I have been looking at purchasing this panelling for my utility room but the person who is doing it out said it would work out much cheaper to make our selfs I watch your one video of you showing how to do this with a router but I’m just wondering what router bit would I need to make it look like the matchboard lines as I like these more than the v groove lines the person has shown me a router part to get but I’m unsure if it would make the same lines as the matchboard any help would be great thanks
what was the gun you used? Nail gun?

18, although replace that old nail gun now but still woudl use 18s probably.
Just ask you a personal question how do you have time to fix your house and work at the same time I look after your children when you finish work don't you feel tired because I'm fixing my house and only Saturday I can fix it Sunday I go out how many hours do you put in a day to fix your house
It’s a good question. I am fortunate that I work for myself as a photographer so much of my office work I can do in the evenings. At the moment I am spending 3 daytimes a week on the house and then 2 days and all my evenings working. Most weekends then become family time. If I had a regular job it would be much harder.

Not sure, they were by Easipanel in the UK. Not too much maybe £6.

Do you use primer, or is this the undercoat before painting also do you need to coat boards front backs sides for a hallway kind regards ☺
Yes undercoat. I didn’t do back as walls internal and dry so not much risk. I have done when using them in cupboard doors or as backs to shelves.

Those panels are expensive £17/£20 per sheet must have cost you hundreds to do that job.
Disappointing that this doesn't actually show how to do the stairs 😕
